Tips to Improve Hip Mobility

One part of the human body is essential for the efficient functioning of another. The hip joint provides support to your overall body weight while you are at ease or in motion. Suffering from medical problems pertaining to the hip can impede free movement; walking, running, stooping, sitting or even lying down will cause immense pain and discomfort in such a situation. While certain bodily disabilities come with old age and are in most cases unavoidable; some others can actually be controlled through physical exercise.

Take a look at a few stretches to improve your hip mobility:

  1. Stretch like a pigeon: This yoga loosens up muscle tension in and around a person's hip. Your right leg must be stretched behind while the upper part of your body bends over a folded left leg in front. Your head rests on your coupled hands. This stretch improves the shape of your hip as well.  
  2. Try to be an eagle for hip firmness: To align your body in the perfect eagle pose; you probably need to be a conjurer; that is the kind of flexibility the posture requires. Be a half-chair making your hands intersect above your head while your left leg crosses the right one. The pressure is on your hip making it strong. Your body has to be in one single line. 
  3. Sit in the chair pose: Crouching on your haunches with your torso inclined to the front is a good way to better hip mobility. This exercise also relieves you of back pain. It adds potency to the muscles of your upper thighs thus giving a well- rounded hip extra support.  
  4. Stoop in the downward doggy pose: The downward doggy pose helps you concentrate on the fullness of your hips. The back muscles are stretched and the problem of a small, rickety hip is dealt with through this yoga. Your legs should be erect at the knees and should be stretched apart depending upon the width of your hip. The rest of your body should bend in a forward arch while your spread hands touch the ground.  
  5. Try out the benefits of World's Greatest Stretch: World's greatest stretch involves a series of stretches that not only accentuates your hipline making your hip muscles adaptable to stress but also tones muscles in other parts of your body. It is a three- fold exercise. The second step is the most difficult where your body is balanced on a half folded right leg and you're required to touch the ground with your right elbow.

I am 50 years old man. Since last 3 years when summer starts, I feel lazy and my muscles in the leg & thighs starts paining. The pain increases as the day passes & decreases gradually in afternoon & I feel comfortable in the evening. But during rainy & winter I don't feel any pain. My blood pressure is slightly in the higher side.

This back pain is due to no back exercise. Due to this muscle get stiff. When suddenly you get move fast that time this stiff muscle get break and pain start. In ayurved there is mentioned one procedure KATI BASTI .DO THIS FOR FIVE DAYS WITH MEDICATED OIL if you want to do it you should do it under doctor observation. So consult ayurvedic doctor near you. You will definitely get good result.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. It's not possible to tell medicines for anyone without knowing proper history, your investigations and treatment thus far. Obviously your knee and back has degenerative changes, you need to do - intensive physiotherapy under supervision of a physiotherapist - daily walks of 2-3 km per day - take adequate calcium and vitamin d intake as per requirement. Pain leg is common. Kindly rule out diabetes & vitamin d deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Proper physiotherapy will help. Medicines will also be needed. Antioxidants like caldikind plus (from mankind) 1 tab /day helps. Paracetamol 250mg bd/tds will also give you relief kindly make sure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients of the brands you are going to take.

You had cholecystectomy done. Because of that you are unable to digest fat. Fat is passed in faeces (toilet) and may have bulky foul smelling stools floating in water of pot. Along with fat fat soluble vitamins are also lost. Moreover Vitamin B-12 absorption may also be erratic. So take Vitamin B-12 (Neurokind OD) 1/2 tablet sublingual (under tongue) twice daily for about a year. Along with take Becadexamin 1 capsule daily for 1 year Do not take fats at all. Use skimmed milk. Take apple daily for iron. Do regular exercises or start playing badminton or tennis. Do dancing or swimming if you know. For allergies, take cetrizine or levocetrizine when required. You may get allergy screening tests done and if positive take specially prepared allergy desensitization vaccine. If this still feel weakness, take Flouxetine (Fludac 10 mg) once daily under medical supervision seeking advice from a qualified doctor.

Avoid both things in pain condition and do firstly knee treatment. Hot fermentation and apply pain relief ointment x-ray must according her age and tk calcium supplements. Out a roll of towel under knee and press for 10 second then release repeat 10 times if it work then ok otherwise physiotherapy treatment must. After relief do quadriceps exercise and cycling in gradually process avoid treadmill.

DEAR lybrate-user. Follow few basic things 1) drink only 100-150 ml of lukewarm water during meals 2) don’t drink water one hour before meals and one hour after meal 3) avoid oily, spicy, salty, junk, fast, fermented and stale foods. 4) avoid coffee and tea 5) try to sleep upto 10.30 pm 6) do anuloma viloma pranayam regularly early in the morning. A) eat 1 TSF of CELERY FRUIT along with 1 TSF of jiggery after meals. B) take 60 ml of AUDUMBARAVLEHA along with 10 ml of honey early in the morning and at night before sleep. C) take 2 tablets of MAHALAXMIVILAS RASA along with AUDUMBARAVLEHA at night before sleep. D) instill 3-4 drops of CHANDANADI TAILA in each nostril at the time of sleeping Do all these things for 15 days. It gives you good result. THANKS.

If it was reduced properly there is no issue. You can check for any problem in union of the broken bone. If it is get advice from orhto doctor or physiotherapist.

I have pain in left side of chest with shoulder when I do rest not pain when I am doing exercise I have done 4 time ecg and 2 d echo both are normal my cholesterol is 179 and ldl is 129 and hdl is 52 and vldl is 15 and trigelcride is 79 and non hdl is 125 homocysteine is 39 vitamin b12 deficiency and vta mene d too.

Dear lybrateuser, - As your investigations are normal, your pain chest pain could be due to muscular & other soft tissue problem - avoid exercise, bending, lifting weight till pain subsides - do hot fomentation of the affected area three times a day - apply pain relief gel 2-3:times a day - take a pain relief tablet after meals if pain is more - do x- ray chest to rule out any other problem.

Drink warm water after every meals or often. Expose to light sunlight. Take light meals often instead of 3 bigger meals. Light exercises and adequate sleep needed. Avoid stress n work.

Since from the child birth, my wife is suffering from pain in her right side upper outside bone of leg near to butt. She says she can not sit in a single posture for long time. If she sits on right side butt. She has to get-up slowly. We don't know the reason of pain. But it is there for last 3-1/2 years. We got our baby by her cezariane operation. Our query is. What may be the probable reason of pain? how to diagnose/get rid of it?

It requires detailed investigation and examination. Preliminary investigations suggested: hb, tlc, dlc, esr, blood sugar fasting & pp, uric acid vit d urine r/e x-ray of the affected part. Anyway it may be tried sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back, knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Do not ignore it. Let it not become beginning of a bigger problem. Make sure that patient is not allergic to any of the medicines that he/she is going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, inform.

Dear lybrate-user! Upper arm pain in young age is commonly due to muscle cramps or diabetes which results from 1. Dehydration, 2. Calcium deficiency considering your age its most likely due to dehydration or nutrition related. It will be relieved by simple measures as follows: take adequate liquids, sports drink like gatorade, fruit juices, buttermilk, lemonade etc. 3. You can massage arm muscles and apply cold pack when they pain. 4 avoid prolonged stitching 5.Change postures in between. 6. Take calcium supplements. 7. Take healthy nutritious diet. 8. If you are taking medicines like diuretics, statins, review with your doctor as they can cause cramps too. 9. Consult the nearby homeopath If problem persists get your thyroid profile, kidney functions done and consult with your doctor. Thank you
