Most probably your mother is suffering from oa of knee knee surgery-total knee replacement (tkr) is quite safe & gives uniformly good results, do ask for detailed treatment plan. Surgery should be done when patient is still active & will be able to take benefit of surgery. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem. Kindly show me x rays before a final decision can be taken. She will be thoroughly investigated before surgery is under taken. Risk in surgery is less than the risk in crossing road.

Following are the tips to prevent onset/or control diabetes 1-Losing Extra Weight:-is the most significant thing which can make a big difference to your health . It helps lower your blood pressure and cholesterol too. waist of more than 80 cm in women & 90 cm in man are at risk 2- Constant and regular food timings :- it will improve your metabolic activity and helps reducing your weight. 3- Split your meals and eating in moderate amount:-Splitting your meals into 3-4 times per day (including snacks)and eating in fair amount, improves your metabolic rate as the food u take is not concentrated at one time. 4- No long Gaps and skipping of meals:-Never miss out breakfast. 5- No overeating:-Never eat in a bulk on one time Remember to eat your food slowly, chew well. 6- Proper Exercise and work outs:-Exercise is a fast way to trim down calories, extra weight and controlling glucose level. Brisk walking for 30 min. atleast five times a week is the best . You can also try Cycling, swimming, dancing. Timings for exercise should be fixed and regular.Do not eat right away after a workout . 7-constant and regular timings for medication 8-Avoid fried foods ,meat, fats and sweets.  9- Take high-fibre and complex carbohydrates:-like oats .Add whole grain foods in your diet. Avoid white bread, pasta, pizza , candies, and snacks .Instead include high-fiber carbohydrates like wheat bran, flaxseed and methi seeds to your wheat flour. This will increase fibre in your diet. 10-Drink enough fluids:-Keep your body well hydrated.  11.Fresh vegetables and fruits:- these contain a lot of minerals as well as nutrients .Include sprouts in the diet as they are easily digestible

Mr Aravind, Since you are on treatment for hypothyroidism, effective treatment should bring down TSH levels to 3 to 4 milli units/ml. Your BMI is 25.73 kg/M2, which means being overweight (normal BMI<23kg/M2). Your ideal body weight should be 58 kg. To control hypothyroidism better there needs to be an increase in the dos e of thyroxine and you also need to exercise regularly for at least 1 hour a day.

if you miss or forget the dose of insulin, then it better to reduce the food intake also. This may not be much of the problem, but if you take insulin and miss the food or delay it too much can be a more dangerous situation.

Hba1c is most reliable test and gives an approximate idea of past 3 months sugar level. At your age target should be near to 6.5 with diet exercise and medication. Along with hba1c, following tests needs to be done as you are on anti epileptics as well. Fbs ppbs urine routine serum creatinine lipid profile liver profile.

Hi thanks for the query. For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - have small frequent meals. Do not fast for long hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugarcane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

I am 50 years having start of Diabetes with over weight please advise about the diet and things to control the weight as well as diabetes.

Your bmi is 34. 5 and you are obese. You have to persist with a low carbohydrate and low fat high protein diet. Stop all cereals, sugar, bakery products and desserts. Take the white of 2 boiled eggs and lots of fruits and green vegetables and salads. If you don' t loose weight soon you will develop high bp also and need bariatric surgery. For more details read the health tips I have written on this website or send me a personal question.

Hair Loss Trigger: Thyroid Problems

The thyroid is a butterfly-shaped gland at the front of the neck. It produces hormones that regulate many processes throughout the body. If the gland makes too much or too little thyroid hormone, the hair growth cycle may falter. But hair loss is rarely the only sign of a thyroid problem. Other symptoms include weight gain or loss, very dry skin or eczema, sensitivity to cold or heat, and changes in heart rate.
