is it a diagnosed case of carcinoma prostate ? if not ask for a proctoscopic biopsy from the prostate gland and then let me know. as only increased PSA is not an indication of cancer, to prove it Biopsy will be required.

What is the symptoms of cancer and how it can be prevented easily by chemotherapy also is there any other easier treatment available to treat cancer?

Dear lybrate-user, symptoms of cancer depends upon the organ, no chemotherapy can't prevent cancer. It treats cancer, means given after cancer is diagnosed. Surgery and radiotherapy are other modalities to treat cancer.

A Brief Insight Into Breast Lumps And Mastectomies!

A Brief Insight Into Breast Lumps And Mastectomies!

Noticed an unusual lump in the breast while in the shower? Then, the first thought you get might be cancer. But no need to hit the panic button though, as not all such lumps are cancerous. However, opting for immediate medical evaluation is necessary whenever one notices the presence of swelling or lumps in the breasts is found.

What are breast lumps?
The term breast lumps refer to localized swelling or bumps or bulges in the breast, which doesn’t feel as same as the breast tissues around them or like that of the normal breasts. There are a number of reasons that can cause breast lumps.

Who can develop breast lumps?
It is often the hormonal changes such as menstruation that is responsible for causing breast lumps, which usually disappears naturally in most cases. Both the boys and the girls may develop breast lumps that feel tender during their puberty. Such breast lumps are temporary and go within a few months. Increased levels of estrogen can also cause breast lumps in a baby, but that too disappears once the estrogen returns to normalcy.
But when breast lumps don’t go away even after puberty or after menstruation and continue to grow bigger, making the breasts appear bruised, turning the skin of the breast area like an orange peel or causing bloody discharge from the nipple, it’s time to visit a doctor immediately. Upon evaluation, a mastectomy might be advised.

What is mastectomy?
The term mastectomy refers to the surgical procedure of breast removal. There are five different types of mastectomy which are, total mastectomy, preventive mastectomy, partial mastectomy, the radical mastectomy and modified radical mastectomy. Depending on a person's age, size of the tumor, general health, tumor stage and grade, involvement of the lymph nodes etc., which type of mastectomy will be ideal is determined.

When mastectomy becomes necessary?
In situations where large lumps formed in the breasts, or the lumps being present in the middle of the breast or cancer has spread in more than one single area in the breasts, mastectomy becomes necessary. Plus, those, who already have gone through radiotherapy for their breast cancer are usually suggested to opt for mastectomy.

Remember, though popular and most effective, mastectomy is not the only way of dealing with breast lumps. Depending on the size, location, spreading and the type of lump, whether it's a tumor or spreading as cancer, the treatment may vary from person to person. Hence, it's a doctor who can best guide you by performing necessary medical evaluation and tests and help opt for a treatment option that is ideal. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Hi, I appreciate you seeking help. Well, its difficult ascertaining what the issue exactly is, without clinically evaluating. I would advise that you meet up your OB/ GYN in person without further delay. As a part of the checkup, he/ she may require to do an USG of breasts/ abdomen or any other diagnostics as would deem appropriate here. Simultaneously, ensure that you have a healthy and balanced diet. Especially, try avoiding hot, spicy, oily, greasy, fatty foods etc all including carbonated beverages and fast foods. Do take care and all the very best.

Please give suggestions about cancer patients how to should precautions for health.

Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir, patient suffering from cancer need strict control on diet, they have to eat properly cooked fresh food, avoid any kind of infections and use mask in case of public exposure, avoid any kind of carcinogenic substance, tobacco, alcohol smoking etc. Routine follow up with doctor any reporting any abnormalities at the earliest should help in patients suffering from cancer.

Cancer - Is There A Way Homeopathy Can Be Of Help?

Cancer - Is There A Way Homeopathy Can Be Of Help?

One of the most dreaded diseases of all times, Cancer has often been presumed to be incurable by a lot of people. Unfortunately Cancer driven deaths have grown in number, significantly over the past few years. Despite the fact that medical science has made substantive progress in the realm of cancer research, the mortality rate continues to be fairly high. Consequently, a lot of people have been seeking alternative therapies. Homeopathy is one such avenue that many would vouch for. The treatment of Cancer can be quite successful with Homeopathy, often in conjunction with allopathic medicine in advanced cases.

In early stages, particularly with breast and prostate, the success rate is close to 80% with compliance by the patient. Homeopaths often approach cancer treatment by combining homeopathic remedies. Certain approaches aim at terminating the tumors while others attempt to heal the eliminative organs of the patient as well their entire constitution. Although there has been a fair number of effective cases, homeopathy still has not emerged as a stand-alone remedy for cancer. Because much of success with homeopathy, however depends on the skill level of homeopath and resources of patient to heal on all levels.

There are two ways of treating any CANCER through Homeopathy treatment -

One is giving the medicine by considering particular symptoms and Pathology which will give the temporary relief, generally this type prescription given in treating the Acute or Advanced Cancers conditions. Most frequently recommended medicines for cancers are Arsenic Album, Hydrastis, Condurango, Conium, Belladonna, Vinca minor, Taxus baccata etc.

Second is giving the medicine to entire constitution or personality (Holistic treatment) that means giving the medicine by considering Mental, Physical, Emotional as well as social state of the patient to cure the primary cancers completely. Here, they consider the cause of diseases, modalities of symptoms, Back ground Miasm of the patient etc.

Risks and complications:

Homeopathic remedies are extremely safe and they have no harmful side effects. Homeopathic treatments can prove to be harmful if they are taken up by excluding other necessary therapies or diagnostic tests.

Mr. lybrate-user, You haven't specified the type of cancer. Generally the view these days is that stage 4 disease with a fungating tumour or a bleeding tumour can be operated as it makes the patient comfortable and also decreases the outflow of cancer cells from the primary tumour.

Hi Sir, I am 26 years old. I had a d & c after 2.5 of pregnancy. Just the next day after d & c I found a lump in my left breast. I have been prescribed with cabgolin and primosa 1000. Doctors are saying it's milk glands. Plss help me. I am very tensed.

Hello, I have been diagnosed with LABC -- locally advanced breast cancer (Stage 3C) I would like to know more about the tumour markers CA 15-3 ,CA 27-29 and CEA. I would like to know how many breast cancer cells must exist in the body to elicit a positive response --- 1, 5, 20 or a few hundred. If a single breast cancer cell can elicit a positive tumour marker response then these tests can be used after treatment (chemo, surgery and radiation) to see if any cancer cell has survived. Alternatively after treatment I can get my blood tested every two weeks to see if there is any recurrence. In other words I am looking for information about the SENSITIVITY of these tumour marker tests. Waiting for your reply (Female, 40 years)

Unfortunately the tumour markers for breast cancer are not at all sensitive or specific. As such they are not used for surveillance or diagnosis or follow up. For diagnosis a combination of clinical breast examination, mammogram (xray and/or usg) and biopsy gives almost 100% diagnosis. After completion of treatment, the follow up is with clinical examination and a mammogram.
