Gallbladder and Gallstones Diet

What do you need to know about your diet if you have gallstones or a gall bladder removed?

When you have a problem with your gallbladder, like gallstones, the doctor may recommend a gallbladder surgery for gallbladder removal. Your gallbladder is an organ that you can live without, but some people need to avoid certain foods after gallbladder removal.

What is the function of a Gallbladder?

The gallbladder is a small organ that sits under your liver. It stores, concentrates and helps secrete bile that helps digest fatty foods.

Bile is made in the liver and stored in the gallbladder until ready to be used to help in the process of digestion. When we eat, this signals the gallbladder that bile is needed. The gallbladder contracts and pushes the bile down into a duct that carries it to the small intestine, where it breaks down any fats eaten. If the bile becomes too concentrated or ‘supersaturated’, substances in the bile can harden and form small stones that look like gravel. They can range in size from a tiny seed to as large as a golf ball.

Generally, they are made up of cholesterol (a type of blood fat) but can include calcium and/or bile pigments. Gallstones take years to form. If you need to have surgery to remove your gallbladder, your liver still makes enough bile for normal digestion. Despite of the fact stated above, it is not unusual for people to have difficulties in food digestion post gallbladder surgery. The common problems experienced are bloating, diarrhea and gastric problems after eating fatty foods. You need to avoid FAT, Spices and GAS Producing Foods in large quantities:

  1. Cheese
  2. Ghee and Oil
  3. High FAT meats
  4. High FAT dairy products
  5. Fried Foods
  6. Cabbage
  7. Cauliflower
  8. Seeds and Nuts
  9. Whole grain products
  10. Sprouts

Suggested Intake:

  1. A low fat diet includes a wide range of foods such as vegetables, potato and legumes such as lentils and kidney beans, all varieties of bread, pasta and rice with oil free sauces, grilled or steamed fish or skinless chicken, grilled lean meat and low fat milk or soy drinks.
  2. Drink plenty of water (eight to ten glasses a day). Consult a nutritionist for a proper diet plan to start with after surgery and then gradually increase the intake. Stay Healthy!

Dear , you should make a note of what food or activity causes acidity. Avoid foods which are too spicy, oily, bitter. Similarly avoid meat or non vegetarian foods. Take souf (fennel seeds) after food or put seeds in one cup of water with one tea spoon of sugar and mildly heat. When cooled, filter the seeds and drink the water. This would soothe the acidity and reduce necessity of drugs. While sleeping put double pillows under your head. Take curds with food. Drink plenty of water. Some ayurvedic digestant powders like gomata pachanamrit from goshala products

Hello,
I have problem with gas acidity for the last 2 years.
I take medicine rantac 150 mg but its not helpful.
First...
Home Remedies of Acidity: Avoid all types of fast food, non-vegetarian food and oily/spicy food.Take as much fruit as possible. This will help to increase alkaline in the body, neutralizing the acidity affects. Banana, Water Melon and cucumber are few recommended fruits which are proved helpful in acidity.Drink sufficient water (At least 3 ltr). Take water more frequently.Almond helps in quick control over heart burn. Whenever you feel like heart burn, take few pieces of Almonds.Jaggery(gur) is a proven home remedy for acidity. Put one piece in mouth and suck it slowly.Green coconut water is very helpful in acidity.Sleep sufficient. Do not work till late night.Fresh mint juice helps in reducing the side effects of acidity. You can have a glass of mint juice after food for a fast relief.Take a small piece of raw garlic; this is a very good digestive element. But don’t take overdose, or else it will have negative effect on acidity.

I am taking food on time, even facing problem of acidity, suggest me what should I do?
Some times for developing acidity, maintaining proper imings only not enough. That depends on the how your food intake, quality of food. Like is it spicy/oily/fast food/junk food/etc all try to maintain bland diet, with less oil& spices. Avoid taking outsided food, snacks, etc take minimum 3-4 litres of water daily. Taking atleast 1/2litre in morning with empty stomach will help alot in gneeral as cleanser for body. Try to take more fruits, dates, sprouts, millets. Diary products like milk, curd, butter milk. Do not drink water while eating, just before easting& immediatey after eating. There should be a ga[p of 1/2 hr minium before or after for break fast/ lunch/dinner. Try to take heavy break fast, medium as lunch & less as dinner. Try to avoid rice consumption in night. Do exercises regularly, like walking, jogging, gym, sports, whatever you can but regularly, practicing yoga. Mediatation/pranayama will five good results in keeping mind/body equilibrium. All the best. If still complaint is there, then you need to take medicines accordingly, but I feel you do not need rt now medicines now.

My friend pinky is suffering from some stomach infection where there is an intestinal swelling and continuous stomach...
After a course of antibiotics she should feel better within a week and after wards for a year she should avoid spicy food items and not to eat junk food and we also need to avoid peanuts and potatoes in her daily diet and I will suggest her to eat nutritious home made food with adequate fluid intake.
