Dear sir could you tell us various reason why muscle cramps occur ?Can we prevent muscle cramps?

BHMS
Homeopath, Sindhudurg
The cause of muscle cramps isn't always known. Muscle cramps may be brought on by many conditions or activities, such as: Exercising, injury, or overuse of muscles. Pregnancy. Cramps may occur because of decreased amounts of minerals, such as calcium and magnesium, .Exposure to cold temperatures, especially to cold water. Other medical conditions, such as blood flow problems, kidney disease, thyroid disease, and multiple sclerosis. Standing on a hard surface for a long time, sitting for a long time, or putting your legs in awkward positions while you sleep. Not having enough potassium, calcium, and other minerals in your blood. Being dehydrated, which means that your body has lost too much fluid. Taking certain medicines, such as antipsychotics, birth control pills, diuretics, statins, and steroids. Homoepathic treatment cures cramps permanently. You can Consult me for homoepathic treatment without side effects.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned persistent back and neck pains. If you have localized back & neck pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain or radiating upper limb pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back & neck while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back & neck region and few blood tests for evaluation. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

My mother have back pain for over 8 days. What should she do to slow down this pain?

BHMS
Homeopath, Bhopal
My mother have back pain for over 8 days. What should she do to slow down this pain?
Back pain can result from bad posture, a sudden jerky movement, a lumpy mattress or poor lifting techniques. It can also be caused by injury in a work place, by a sports accident or by muscular spasms. It often occurs during pregnancy or, because of decreased flexibility, as people get older. There are also many diseases and pathological conditions that can lead to back pain. These include abdominal or pelvic disease, anxiety, arthritis, cervical or lumbar spondylosis, dermatological problems, kidney disease, rheumatic conditions, tumours and scoliosis. Our modern, sedentary lifestyles have a profound effect on the development of back pain; indeed one of the most effective ways of preventing it is simply to stay active. Top tips for back care: For back pain, better to see your Doctor sooner than later. Take regular exercise – your Doctor can say what’s right for you. Hours in one position can cause problems – avoid computer ‘hump’. During repetitive tasks, vary your rhythm and take frequent breaks. Adjust car seats and on long journeys, take regular breaks to stretch. Pace yourself with heavy work such as gardening – don’t risk a disc! Watch children’s posture – they shouldn’t carry bags on one shoulder or spend too long at a computer without breaks. Avoid strain when lifting, particularly small children and shopping. Your bed could be part of the problem. Seek Doctor advice on choosing a new one. Take a hot bath or shower, soaking in a hot tub, or using a heating pad, hot water bottle, or heat wrap that provides continuous, low-level heat are all ways to bring healing warmth to your lower back.

I feel slight uncomfortable in my leg just uper portion of ankle. I doubt some muscle spasm like that

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually pain at lower leg region just above ankle can be due to many reasons like involvement of tendons, nerves, vascular and some times stress fractures. If there is no associated swelling, redness, inflammation of skin, then my advise for you: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre match warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - I suggest you to get some blood tests: - serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp once you have all these reports then you can contact me as I can advise you for proper supplementation do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

I am 15 year old and I am having pain in my ankle from past 2 months that is not alloying me to move my left foot.
Use rest, ice, compression, and elevation (rice) for pain and swelling. Stop, change, or take a break from any activities that cause your symptoms. Wear comfortable and supportive shoes and socks consider using an orthotic shoe device, such as an arch support, to help relieve your ankle pain. Try heel-cord exercises to increase your strength and flexibility if your heel or heel cord (achilles tendon) is tight and painful. This may help relieve your heel and ankle pain.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. I think you may be having a strain or a tendinitis if there is no associated injury. Can you tell me whether you have any swelling, or any other s/s of inflammation etc? my advise will be initially to restrict your sporting activities, give adequate rest to limb till pain subsides, ice packs for local application, physical therapy and gentle anti inflammatory medications.
