Dear Prasad, Welcome to lybrate. Stammering is "speaking with sudden involuntary pauses and a tendency to repeat the initial letters of words" or "say something with difficulty, repeating the initial letters of words and with sudden involuntary pauses". Stammering could be due to two reasons. First reason is Vocal cord misalignment. Second is Psychological performance anxiety. First of all you should consult an ENT Specialist and evaluate your vocal chords. If there is problem, ENT specialist will be able to correct it. If there is no problem with your vocal chords, You should consult a psychologist for stammer therapy. Take care.

Stammering may be the indication of any underlying anxiety problems. See a clinical psychologist who can evaluate and give psycho therapies like relaxation training, cbt and so forth. If necessary the psychologist will refer you to a psychiatrist for medications. It is not a serious problem. If you have a strong will and follow the treatments/practices certainly you can overcome it. All the best.

My kid is 3yrs 3 months old, he is stuttering from last 4 months. We have shown to child specialist they have given a syrup called "piracitam stem" for 2months. But still he is stuttering. Whether we have to repeat the syryp untill it stops.

Ph.D
Audiologist, Bangalore
You may consult a speech pathologist too. He shall evaluate and find whether the stuttering need intervention or not. Sometimes speech can be emerging and appear non fluent (normal non fluency) in which no intervention is needed.

This is a very common problem due to lack of exposure and lack of confidence. So just take help of your friends and family to discuss and practice. Join some drama and music classes. Don't takes any medicine.

Gargling with warm salt water is an effective way to treat a sore throat. Salt can even help kill the bacteria or virus causing pharyngitis. 1. Mix three teaspoons of salt (preferably sea salt) in two cups of warm water. 2. Gargle with this solution. Do not swallow it. Spit the water out after gargling. 3. Do this several times daily for one to two days. Also take hepar sulph 30 - thrice daily for next 3 days.

Hi lybrate-user, you feel that your voice has changed. Okay, many reasons may be, it may be due to maturity or due to overuse. Do not worry. Relax. Give some rest to your voice as well. In the meantime check with ENT specialist, if everything is normal, that is voice cords, tongue throat. Get back to me for further discussion along with the ENT check up results (meaning doctors suggestion). Everything will bcom normal. Time is there. Take care. Be cool. With regards,

Keep listening to sanskrit shlokas and reciting them. Many times stammering is a result of low self confidence. You need to be aware of your strengths and try to improve upon your skills. You may take an appointment with a counsellor.
