Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. I actually need to know which part of the foot are you talking about, is the forefoot with involved toe region, mid foot region or the hind foot and heel region. It is important because there are different causes of pain in different regions of foot. Also it will be nice if you can actually send me a clinical pic pointing to the site of pain. Also kindly attach your lab investigations so that I can see and advise accordingly. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Any limb weakness present before surgery may take upto an year even after adequate surgical decompression. The duration and degree of recovery also depend on the time lag between onset of symptoms and the surgery. Expect a good recovery with regular physiotherapy.

Identify the mid point between the ankle bone and tendons and give pressure with a blunt edge on either side of your foot for 2 minutes. Also give pressure in the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from your toe for 2 minutes. Finally give a good massage for both feet in hot water. Consult after 5 days.

Hello lybrate-user, - from how long you are suffering from this pain need to know. - bcz of age also this might have started. - for that only external ointment will not work - you need to strengthen your joints then the pain will reduce. - hence application of ksheerabala taila and hot fomentation for 15 min will make you feel better - take giloy ras 20ml daily twice before food with water. Do it for 20 days. Thank you.

It's frozen shoulder most likely. You need to strengthen your shoulder muscles. Do stretching exercises for shoulder.

I have a desk job and for the last three month I have back pain and I want to know if there will be problem in future.

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT
Physiotherapist, Bangalore
I have a desk job and for the last three month I have back pain and I want to know if there will be problem in future.
Hunching over a desk is a leading reason why people end up with crippling back pain at some point in their lives. But a few simple changes in the way you work can make your pain go away. 1-Keep your head up; Focus on aligning your head and neck right above your shoulders; avoid straining forward. 2-Be choosy with your chair: Pick one that allows your lower back to rest against a lumbar support. Then tilt the back of the chair so it’s very slightly reclined. 3-Plant your feet: Keep them flat on the floor and shoulder-width apart to quiet tension in your knees and ankles. 4-Take breaks: Getting up at least once an hour— just do some shoulder rolls—reduces pressure on spinal disks and boosts circulation. If your back pain is severe please go to a Physiotherapist for detail assessment and management of your pain. Best wishes.

I have suffered from arthritis since two years would you suggest me what could I do and don't?

DM - Rheumatology, MD - General Medicine
Rheumatologist, Mumbai
Most arthritis are chronic diseases, can be controlled to an extent if treated early and well, not exactly cured, controlled so much so that one doesn't feel there is any disease, however medication needs to be continued. The earlier proper treatment, earlier is better. Many arthritis have attacks, you can be totally normal between attacks. And it depends on arthritis many of which can be totally cured. Kindly consult a rheumatologist.

Sports Injuries - 5 Best Ways To Prevent Yourself!

Sports Injuries - 5 Best Ways To Prevent Yourself!

Do you remember the last time you had a searing knee pain in the middle of your morning run? It was probably because you did not warm up properly. The incidence of injuries in various sports has gone up in the recent times, and it is mostly due to the lack of proper warm up exercises. However, other factors come into play as well, such as the pressure of increased workload on the current batch of athletes, missing a trick or two with the proper technique to be followed, etc.

In order to reduce the risk of an injury, it is advised to follow these simple tips:

  1. Set realistic goals for yourself: Don’t go overboard with anything that includes repetitively stressing and straining your body over a certain degree. If you are planning to go for a run or hit to the gym, make sure you set goals that you can sustain and find feasible. One example of this would be to not increase the amount of weight drastically while lifting weights as it can lead to serious injuries.

  2. Follow the right technique: Proper technique is very important in sports, a lack of which can lead to injuries. Ask your trainer to observe your form when you perform any activity. Focus on your breathing and posture when you are exercising.

  3. Warm up before you begin exercising: Warming up before you exercise or play a sport is important as it helps loosen your muscles and boost blood circulation. It drastically reduces the risks of sustaining injuries, and also prepares your body for the subsequent exercise.

  4. Cool down: Similar to an essential warm up is the need to cool down; it is another aspect that should not be ignored. Cooling down usually consists of stretches and postures that promote flexibility. The muscles become sore after working out. Stretching can help reduce post workout pain and make the joints flexible. Cooling down also helps in eliminating lactic acid from the muscles, which means less pain after exercise.

  5. Listen to your body: During an activity, if you feel that you can no longer carry on, terminate the activity. The chances of injury rise if you continue to push your body over your threshold limit. If you think that you can no longer carry on doing something without risking an injury, avoid doing it altogether. Listen to your body, and it shall never fail you. Consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
