Dear Sir, Both your TSH and HBA1C are in Normal range, though you are very near borderline for Pre-diabetes (HbA1C between 5.7 % to 6.4% is prediabetes). I am not sure why you have been started on Thyronorm either. Was you TSH greater than 5 before? You can stop the Glycomet, but you need to decrease weight. Your BMI which is ration of weight/height square is 27.1. Your ideal BMI should be around 23. So you need to lose approximately 19 kgs. F you stop Glycomet and you do not lose weight within a couple of years you may well be in PreDiabetic range or with Overt diabetes. So my advise is stop Glycomet, eat a healthy balanced diet with plenty of vegetables/ both in salad form or a Sabji which is cooked in less oil. At least half your plate should be of vegetables. 1/4 plate should be of carbohydrate- like rice/roti/chapati/phulka etc. Include plenty of whole grain foods like millets etc. 80% of remaining 1/4 plate should be of protein-pulses-dals, eggs, non veg etc. 20% should be fats/oil. Eat 2 fruits /day. Drink semi skimmed milk 1glass/day. Take curd/buttermilk from semi skimmed milk. Can take one handful of nuts/day. Avoid high calorie food like sweets or junk food. Most important is to exercise -at least 45 min of moderate exercise per day- like cycling, brisk walking, jogging, swimming etc. Aim to lose 2 kgs weight per month. Hope this has helped you. I wish you best of luck Thank you.

1. I often get severe back pain. Please advice, what could be the reason?
2. What are the symptoms of Thyroid. Pls help?
1. For back pain: exercise regularly including stretching, yoga and exercises by lying on back. Do not sit at one place for longer time, avoid bending and lifting heavy weight. Apply orthomove oil over back twice daily. You may need internal medication. Consult for that. 2. Two types of thyroid changes hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. In hypothyroid, there is weight gain, laziness, lethargy, hair fall, irregular menses in females, chilliness etc. In hyperthyroid there is profuse perspiration, feeling hot all the time, weight loss, heavy bleeding, restlessness etc.

since 2000 I am a sugar patient I am taking insulin but my glucose level is fasting 150 and pp not less than 250 what I do please advice me.

General Physician,
Diabetes affects all organs in the body? eyes, kidneys, nerves, reproductive system all are affected, infact, from from toe to hair. It is not as easy task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (self-monitoring of blood glucose? smbg). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of fasting sugar (fbs) and 2 hours after food (ppbs) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ insulin will be needed.

I am a registered dietitian and doctor who will help you in managing your weight. Let me know your food intake details. The best diet is one which is healthy and well balanced with foods from all the food groups, and one which is varied and that you can stick to weight loss on some diets can be dramatic in the short term, but there's more of a chance of rebound weight gain. Set yourself a realistic target and aim to lose between (0.5-1.0kg) a week I being a registered dietitian strongly accommodate the patients own preferences without the patient feeling that they are on a diet not compromising the weight management goals. Mr. Lybrate-user, your blood sugar readings are really good. But by one single reading it is difficult to advise any dosage change. If consistently you get the similar readings then dose reduction can be looked at. What is hba1c%, that will give an idea of long term control. Another important aspect is you have grade 1 obesity with a bmi of 30.3 kg/m2, your ideal body weight should be 68 kgs, there is 25 kg extra weight. Reducing it will contribute a great deal in sugar control.

Diabetes is one of the fast growing lifestyle disorder that can be effectively managed with few lifestyle modifications and eating a healthy diet. Characterized by high blood sugar levels in the body, this condition affects the body’s ability to either produce insulin or to use insulin effectively. Although there are numerous treatment options available to keep your blood sugar levels in control, home remedies can work wonders in achieving this task. Here are top 10 effective home remedies to maintain your blood sugar levels and lead a healthy life with diabetes.
#1 Holy Basil (tulsi) leaves
The leaves of holy basil are packed with antioxidants and essential oils that produce eugenol, methyl eugenol and caryophyllene. Collectively these compounds help the pancreatic beta cells (cells that store and release insulin) to function properly and increase sensitivity to insulin. An added advantage is that the antioxidants present in the leaves help beat the ill effects of oxidative stress.
Tip: Consume two to three tulsi leaves whole or about one tablespoon full of its juice on an empty stomach to lower the blood sugar levels. Here are top 10 health benefits of tulsi
#2 Flax seeds (Alsi)
Due to their high fibre content flaxseeds help digestion and aid in the proper absorption of fats and sugars. Consuming flax seed helps reduce a diabetic’s postprandial sugar level by almost 28 per cent.
Tip: Consume one tablespoon of ground flaxseed powder every morning on an empty stomach with a glass of warm water. However, do not have more than 2 tablespoons per day, as it can be detrimental to your health. Here are 11 ways to include flaxseeds in your diet.
#3 Leaves of bilberry (neelabadari) plant
The leaves of bilberry have been used in Ayurveda for many centuries to control diabetes. Recently, the Journal of Nutrition stated that the leaves of the Bilberry plant contain high amounts of anthocyanidin, which enhance the action of various proteins involved in glucose transportation and fat metabolism. Due to this unique property, bilberry leaves are a great way to lower one’s blood sugar levels.
Tip: Crush bilberry leaves in a mortar and pestle and consume 100 milligrams of this extract everyday on an empty stomach.
#4 Cinnamon (dalchini)
Also known as dalchini, it improves insulin sensitivity and lower blood glucose levels. Having as little as ½ teaspoon of cinnamon per day can improve one’s insulin sensitivity and help controlling weight, thereby decreasing one’s risk for heart disease.
Tip: Include about 1 gram of dalchini into your daily diet for about a month to help lower blood sugar levels. Read more health benefits of cinnamon.
#5 Green Tea
Unlike other tea leaves, green tea is unfermented and is high in polyphenol content. Polyphenol is a strong antioxidant and hypo-glycaemic compound that helps control the release of blood sugars and helps the body use insulin better. Read more 10 types of flavoured green tea that have 20 health benefits.
Tip: Steep a bag of green tea in hot water for 2-3 minutes. Remove the bag and drink a cup of this tea in the morning or before your meals.
#6 Drumstick leaves
Also called moringa, the leaves of this plant are best known for their ability to boost one’s energy. In the case of diabetics, the moringa leaf increases satiety and slows the breakdown of food and lower blood pressure.
Tip: Take a few drumstick leaves, wash and crush them to extract their juice. Now take about 1/4th cup of this juice and drink it on an empty stomach, every morning to keep your sugar levels under control.
#7 Psyllium husk (Isabgol)
Also known as psyllium husk is often used as a laxative. When isabgol comes in contact with water, it swells to form a gel-like substance. This slows the breakdown and absorption of blood glucose. Isabgol also protects the stomach lining from ulcers and acidity.
Tip: Cosume isabgol after every meal, ideally with milk or water. Avoid having it with curd as it can lead to constipation. For homoeopathic treatment give detailed history - Dr Rushali Angchekar

What time to take diabetes medicine in the day? Is diabetics totally cure by medicine?
Hello, time should be given by the doctor, based on the tablet and your health condition. No, diabetics is just controlled by medicine, that is the reason, doctors suggest life long medication. But if you have proper nutritional values in your diet along with medication, slowly your sugar levels will come down, then doctor minimize the dosage, and slowly you can completely cure from diabetes.
