Mr. Lybrate-user, your blood glucose level is high particularly pp. But this can be corrected by diet and exercise rather than any new drug addition, if you reduce present intake by about 10 to 15%, consume more of green leafy vegetable and fiber containing product, plus exercise regularly then you can bring down the sugar level closer to the target of fasting 100mg and pp <170 mg.

I am 44 year old my t3 normal t4 normal but tsh is 7.08 normal is 5.5 which is effective treatment to control tsh.
Mr Rajeev, TSH level of 7.08 milli units/ ml, is above normal. It is better to check for anti TPO anti bodies also. If TPO anti bodies are also high then treatment with thyroxine tablets is needed. Another important thing is that do you have any symptoms suggesting deficiency of thyroxine like unexplained tiredness, weight gain, cold intolerance, slow heart rate, dry skin, hair fall, muscle cramps, swelling of legs, feet and face etc. then treatment is needed.

Hello sir my brother age is 42 years and he is a diabetic patient he had measles from last three days and which seems...
Mr. Lybrate-user, measles is a self limiting disease. Total duration of the disease could be about a week. Pox scars take a little longer o disappear. Spreads through as coughing and sneezing as a droplet. There is no treatment except controlling fever through antipyretic drugs, giving oral rehydration solution to prevent dehydration. So you may give this kind of treatment, which will help in relieving all the symptoms. Vomiting can be controlled by using small amounts of ors solution orally or if need be anti emetic drus can be used. Thanks for the question.

Diabetes: The Disease With a Sweet Name but Bitter Consequences

Diabetes: The Disease With a Sweet Name but Bitter Consequences

Diabetes, frequently alluded to by specialists as diabetes mellitus, it depicts a gathering of metabolic illnesses in which the individual has high level of glucose in the blood (blood sugar), either in light of the fact that the production of insulin is insufficient, or on the grounds that the cells of the body don't react appropriately to insulin, or both. Patients with high blood sugar will commonly encounter polyuria (continuous pee), they will turn out to be progressively parched (polydipsia) and hungry (polyphagia).

1. It's the start of the holiday season, which implies heaps of candies, cookies, cakes, and different treats wherever you go. And, numerous individuals with sort 2 diabetes accept that their finding implies they should starve their sweet tooth and say no to these seasonal treats. Yet, is that truly the case?

Joyfully, say experts, the answer is no watchful way to deal with planning your diabetes diet and it implies you don't need to kiss desserts farewell. Yet, to have the capacity to appreciate that pumpkin pie or bit of cake without blame while holding your blood sugar levels in line, you have to know:

  • What you are eating
  • How much you are eating
  • Carbohydrate, sugar, and calorie substance of all that you devour

Impacts: After you eat or drink, your body separates the sugars in your blood and transforms it into glucose. The glucose goes through your bloodstream and gives your body vitality. To fulfill this, your pancreas needs to deliver a hormone called insulin. In a man with (diabetes mellitus), the pancreas either delivers too little insulin or none by any means, or the insulin can't be utilized viably. This permits blood glucose levels to rise while whatever is left of your cells are denied of greatly required vitality. This can prompt a wide assortment of issues influencing about all aspects of your body. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a doctor and ask a free question.

Your blood sugar and cholesterol level is in the upper limit of normal. Regular exercise, diet control, weight reduction, avoiding oily and fatty food, restricting carbohydrate and sweets can bring down the sugar and cholesterol level. Repeat the test after some time. If not under control medicine has to be started.

Diabetes - 10 Easy Steps To Help You Prevent it

MBBS, MD - General Medicine

Diabetes - 10 Easy Steps To Help You Prevent it

With sedentary lifestyle, refined and processed food habits, obesity and diabetes is the new age epidemic. India, in fact, is being termed as the diabetes capital of the world given the huge rise in the number of cases over the last couple of decades.

There are well established risk factors for diabetes and if these can be managed, then the chance of delaying onset, controlling progress and containing complications are highly possible. Read on to know how simple things can be effective in preventing and managing diabetes.

  1. Weight control: Obesity is the most important risk factor for developing diabetes. A person with normal BMI is 20 to 40 times less likely to develop diabetes than an overweight person. Losing about 10% of the excess weight can help prevent diabetes by more than 50%. Check with your doctor what should be the ideal recommended weight for you and draw up a routine (diet, exercise, etc.) that will help you achieve and stay around that weight range.

  2. Exercise: All methods of exercise help in moving the muscles, which is drastically reduced given our sedentary lifestyle. Moving the muscle (as much and as often as possible) ensures they absorb more glucose and reduce the stress on insulin production. Something as simple as brisk walking for 30 minutes is good enough to reduce the chances of developing diabetes by 50%.

  3. Don’t be a couch potato: If watching television is your favourite pastime, it is time to change it. This puts people at risk of developing obesity, heart disease and diabetes. Also, watching television is usually associated with overeating, further adding to the risk of diabetes.

  4. Fibrous foods: Eating fibrous fruits and vegetables as compared to refined and fried foods helps prevent diabetes.

  5. Whole grains vs processed foods: When you have to choose between a pizza and a bowl of brown rice, go for the latter.

  6. Good fats vs bad fats: Polyunsaturated fatty acids are found in vegetable oils, nuts, and seeds and help control diabetes. Trans fats present in margarine and baked foods are best avoided.

  7. Non-vegetarian foods: If you have a choice, pick fish and poultry versus red meat (processed or otherwise). The fish is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and helps control inflammation.

  8. Leave the whites: Get off white rice, white refined sugar and white flours. Include brown rice, brown or demerara sugar and wheat flour instead.

  9. Smoking: Quit smoking and you will note how beneficial it is in preventing diabetes.

  10. Alcohol: Moderate amount helps in effective functioning of the insulin.

If you have a family history or have risk factors, follow the above to prevent diabetes. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a general physician.

Diet Food For Diabetes

PGP In Diabetologist, Fellowship in non-invasive Cardiology, MD - Medicine, MBBS
Endocrinologist, Delhi
Diet Food For Diabetes

Diabetes control is governed by following the right diabetic diet. What to eat and what not to eat is important for diabetes control, cure or diabetes reversal.

These are the top diabetes diet tips from diabetologists and nutritionists. Even if you are pre-diabetic or borderline diabetic, or diabetes is part of your family, it is important to follow a diabetic diet to prevent diabetes.

Here is the Diet Food for Diabetics:

  1. Whole grains, oats, channa atta, millets and other high fibre foods should be included in the meals. If one feels like consuming pasta or noodles, it should always be accompanied with vegetable/sprouts.
  2. Milk is the right combination of carbohydrates and proteins and helps control blood sugar levels. Two servings of milk in a daily diet is a good option.
  3. High fibre vegetables such as peas, beans, broccoli and spinach /leafy vegetables should be included in one's diet. Also, pulses with husk and sprouts are a healthy option and should be part of the diet.
  4. Pulses are important in the diet as their effect on blood glucose is less than that of most other carbohydrate containing foods. Vegetables rich in fibre help lowering down the blood sugar levels and thus are healthy.
  5. Good fats such as Omega-3 and monounsaturated fats (MUFA) should be consumed as they are good for the body. Natural sources for these are canola oil, flax seed oil, fatty fish and nuts. These are also low in cholesterol and are trans fat free.
  6. Fruits high in fibre such as papaya, apple, orange, pear and guava should be consumed. Mangoes, bananas, and grapes contain high sugar; therefore these fruits should be consumed lesser than the others.

Small frequent meals:

A large meal gives rise to higher blood sugar in one's body, therefore it is essential to take small frequent meals to prevent both higher and very low blood sugar values and keep them constant. Small in between snacks can be dhokla, fruit, high fibre cookies, butter milk, yogurt, upma/poha with vegetables etc.

A person with diabetes should follow a diet which is low in carbohydrates, high in fibre and contains adequate amounts of proteins, vitamins and minerals; and avoid fatty foods and sweets. He/she should also take frequent small meals (5 meals pattern).

What not to do:

  • Artificial sweeteners can be used in cakes and sweets for diabetic people (in moderation).
  • Have lots of fluid.
  • Limit intake of alcohol.

Should you have non-veg?

In non-vegetarian diet, seafood and chicken can be taken rather than red meat as red meat contains higher amount of saturated fats. Also, patients with high cholesterol should avoid egg yolk and red meat.

The diabetes diet for Indians includes carbohydrates, proteins and fats. As always, a balanced and planned diet can build and improve personal health. A controlled diabetes diet may seem like a drag and bore, but a good cook can add life to a diet.

Avoidance of high fatty food which is basically oily stuff with ghee, butter or oil is to be avoided for reduction of cholesterol level. This is the best remedy. You don't reduce anything by adding something to it. You reduce it by diminishing it from the body by means of reduction it in your diet.
