Hi Dear Doctor I am mohan (29 yrs) from Bangalore. I need permanent solution for the snoring that I have too much. I do not disturb others at bed time. What kind of solution is better. I think I am having mouth snoring. Kindly give your support.

DORL, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Faridabad
Surgery is the only solution for this snoring comes from the soft palate when there is fat deposition in it or it becomes so thinned out that it flutters, this is called snoring, snoring is directly related to your unhealthy life style, as this is mainly due to alcohol intake, excess of fat diet, fried spicy or salty diet in excess causes soft palate enlargement this in turn leads to snoring and lack of sleep in the lying down position, start exercising and reduce your weight and start healthy life style. Do not take it lightly as this is directly related to decreased oxygen supply to vital organs mainly the heart hence snoring patients are very prone to get heart attack at very early age, get the sleep study done as early as possible this will show the ah index value on the basis of that the treatment will be given.

Hi I am hearing hissing sound from my left ear only since some time. What could be the problem?

Hi I am hearing hissing sound from my left ear only since some time. What could be the problem?
You are having a condition called tinnitus. Some instances of tinnitus are caused by infections or blockages in the ear, and the tinnitus can disappear once the underlying cause is treated. Frequently, however, tinnitus continues after the underlying condition is treated. In such a case, other therapies -- both conventional and alternative -- may bring significant relief by either decreasing or covering up the unwanted sound. A variety of other conditions and illnesses can lead to tinnitus. These sounds are usually have very different characteristics. Most of the people report ringing, hissing, buzzing or clicking kind of sounds. Tinnitus mostly occurs as a result of side effect of certain drugs. Middle ear problems or Internal ear problems can also lead to tinnitus like condition. Rarely,it can be associated with no medical condition and is called as ‘Idiopathic tinnitus’. Homeopathy has a really wonderful treatment for it. Although tinnitus is not life threatening nor is it a part of any grave illness yet at times it can severely affect ones quality of life. Consult online for homeopathic treatment free from any side-effects.

First thing you should go for ct scan of nose and sinus than treatment is based on grade of the sinus, if it is grade iv than no treatment is available or effective unless you get this corrected by surgery, surgery will give you nearly 80-90%. Than remaining you can treat with homeopathy than it will help. The bone of he nose gets deviated this leads to nose breathing problem if a person suffering from nasal obstruction along with sinusitis and mild to moderate nasal allergies it means most probably he is suffering from dns (deviated nasal septum. Nasal obstruction is because of the deviated portion of the nasal septum (this is the bony partition of the nose cavity. Allergies are because of the hampered muco-ciliary mechanism (normally mucus is produced in the nose to moisten our nose cavity, oral cavity, and help food bolus to move downward, this mucus is basically moves on the cilia of the nasal mucosa) this mechanism gets hampered and mucus start accumulating in the nose and sinus cavity which is why thick mucus comes from nose in patients of nose obstruction and person develops sinusitis. When a surgeon removes the nasal septum deviation has not been removed properly the symptoms persists, and patient thinks that the nose bone has again regrown. It is not because of regrowth but because of half surgery done or due to the non removal of the deviation (reason can be many) nowadays nasal septal deviation can be removed endoscopic ally. But if the sinusitis is grade ii or iii than there are possibility that you may get relief from symptoms.

Tinnitus is a common problem usually associated with deafness. It is of two types, subjective and objective. In objective tinnitus you can find out the cause of tinnitus while in subjective it is difficult to find the cause. Treatment consisit of reassurance and certain vasodilator and vitamin treatment. In objective tinnitus you may require surgery if cause is confirmed by all mod of Diagnosis including CT scan.

Nosebleed - 8 Tips to Prevent it

Nosebleed - 8 Tips to Prevent it

There are various type of nosebleed that can be caused by a variety of conditions. While some of them may not be too serious, one must never ignore heavy and persistent nosebleed. Nosebleeds are of two kinds: anterior nosebleed and posterior nosebleed. While 90% of all nosebleeds are anterior nosebleeds, the posterior nosebleeds are far less common and may be slightly more serious in nature. An anterior nosebleed is usually caused in the blood vessels that lie on the front portion of the nose and can be controlled easily. A posterior nosebleed usually comes from damage to an artery in the rear portion of the nose. Infection, trauma, allergic reactions and other such causes may be behind a nosebleed.

Let us cast a glance on the tips to prevent nosebleeds.

  1. Salt water and saline nose drops can be used in order to prevent nosebleeds. It is important to take these on a regular basis in case you are experiencing these nosebleeds on a regular basis.
  2. You can also consult doctor, who may prescribe blood thinners so that the blood does not clot and lead to a nosebleed. You will need to ensure that you take such medication only when the doctor prescribes the same.
  3. The use of painkillers like Aspirin and other non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs must be limited. Sometimes, taking such medication too frequently may lead to nosebleeds.
  4. You would do well to control your blood pressure because hypertension and other forms of high blood pressure can also cause nosebleeds. Lifestyle changes like your diet and exercise can help in keeping a more stable blood pressure level so that you do not fall prey to frequent nosebleeds.
  5. Humidify your home with a humidifier so that the air does not get too dry. Many times, this causes nosebleeds. Also, you may want to keep the heat down in the bedrooms. Many nosebleeds happen due to too warm temperatures while you are sleeping.
  6. Nose picking should also be discouraged as it can lead to nosebleeds in case there is a scratch or any other kind of damage when you try to force the dirt out.
  7. It has also been found that smoking has a connection with nosebleeds. This can be fixed if the patient quits smoking.
  8. One should not use nasal sprays without a prescription from a doctor. This also includes antihistamines, decongestants as well as other medicated sprays. These may not suit the patient at all times, and may also lead to nosebleeds.

In the event of a nosebleed, you will need to lean forward with your head tilted backwards. This will stem the bleeding. If it is possible, you must also try and lie down immediately for a few minutes.
