I am suffering from pcod from the past four years. I have consulted many doctors but didnt worked for me. Because of pcod i am loosing my skin tone, hairs and gained too much of weight.

MD - Internal Medicine
General Physician, Bangalore
Hi thanks for posting your query. Most important thing in pcod treatment is you need to lose weight. Else the medications will not be effective. In addition to ovacare forte I would recommend you to use metformin 500mg once a day daily. Also get serum insulin levels ( fasting and postprandial ) and serum dhea and serum tsh levels tested and revert back with reports.

Risk Factors for Preterm Labor: Effects on Baby and Mother!

MBBS, MS-Obstetrics & Gynaecology

Risk Factors for Preterm Labor: Effects on Baby and Mother!

A preterm labour is referred to a condition when the cervix opens up within 37 weeks of pregnancy. An ideal pregnancy lasts for a span of 40 weeks. If preterm labour is caused due to preterm contractions, the baby is born earlier. This results in serious health risks for the baby. At times it requires long intensive care for the baby to ensure no mental or physical damage happens in the long term.

What are the symptoms of pre-term labour?
While some women show evident signs of pre-term labour, some women present symptoms that are more subtle. Some unmistakable symptoms of pre-term labour include regular contractions, sense of tightness in the lower abdomen, vaginal discharge, diarrhoea, constant backache, bleeding from the vagina, watery discharge from the vagina, pain in the abdomen and abdominal cramps. One or more of these symptoms should be immediately reported to the doctor to negate the chances of any miscarriages or serious complications.

What are the risk factors?
While there are no proven risk factors of preterm labour, lots of factors have been tagged with a pre-term labour. Some of the notable ones include:

  1. Little pre-natal care
  2. Premature birth in previous pregnancies
  3. Giving birth to more than one baby at a time. This is especially applicable while giving birth to a triplet.
  4. A stressful event such as a personal loss or events related to extreme emotions
  5. Bleeding from the vagina during pregnancy
  6. Any infection of the genital tract
  7. Any complications related to the placenta, uterus and cervix
  8. Any birth defect related to the vagina
  9. Chronic health conditions such as diabetes or high blood pressure
  10. Putting on weight more than the recommended level
  11. An excess of amniotic fluid
  12. Consumption of illicit drugs or smoking at a heavy rate
  13. The shorter length of the cervix than the normal one

What are the complications involved?
Most common complication of preterm birth lungs is not well developed which can lead to respiratory distress in babies. Pre-term labour cannot be stopped with any medical procedures. If pre-term labour is caused due to smoking or an infection, the same can be addressed. Any pre-term labour that eventually leads to giving birth can confront with complications such as low weight, problems related to the vision of the baby, behavioural problems and learning disabilities.

Diagnosis and tests:
A doctor will closely monitor the symptoms a woman is facing. In the case of regular contraction, a close look at the cervix helps a doctor to decide the condition of a patient. To be assured a doctor might recommend a full pelvic exam, ultrasound test, uterine monitoring, and maturity of amniocentesis. A test of the vaginal secretion further gives the doctor enough evidence about the possibility of a pre-term labour.

According to me, I suggest that medicines which abort are too harmful so dnt use it. Only method is to abort surgically. Personally I would advice to keep the baby and progress for sucessful healthy pregnancy. As many a times after mechanical abortions, couples are facing infertility issues.

Gentle massage with any oil will help, plus stretching exercises to tone up the muscles, weights, rowing, swimming & yoga exercises. But she will never have previous shape, keep weight under check and make exercise a routine.

5 Tips To Boost Your Memory

5 Tips To Boost Your Memory

5 Tips To Boost Your Memory

1. Don’t Forget About Physical Exercise

Believe it or not, when you’re exercising your body, you’re exercising your mind as well. Aerobic exercise or yoga gets your blood pumping, which increases the oxygen going to your brain and lowers your risk of disorders such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease that can lead to memory loss.

If you can, start with some exercise in the morning. This can clear your head right off the bat to stay focused and alert during the day. Exercises that require coordination are especially helpful for keeping the mind active such as simply throwing a ball back and forth.

2. Make Sure You’re Sleeping

Sleep is one of the best ways to make sure your brain and memory are in tip-top shape on a daily basis. To get the most out of your sleep, aim for 7-9 hours every night.

Make sure to shut off the electronics at least an hour before bed to help the mind shut off as well. Try to limit your caffeine and alcohol intake earlier in the day. Both can result in a shallow sleep.

3. Keep Your Brain Stimulated

Research has shown that keeping mental stimulation as we age is very important for lowering the risk of dementia.

Stay social, interact with others, learn new skills, play mind-exercise games like crossword puzzles or Sudoku. Interacting with others and continuing to learn is vital for keeping the brain healthy at any age.

4. Be Aware Of Your Stress

Chronic stress can not only make someone miserable, but also cause serious long term effects. Stress over time has been shown to destroy brain cells and damage the area of the brain that creates new memories and recalls past ones.

To avoid memory loss, minimize your stress. Don’t take on too many tasks if they overwhelm you, sometimes it is okay to say no. Make sure you have outlets to relieve stress whether it is physical exercise or talking with someone about your frustrations.

5. You Are What You Eat

Certain foods have shown to be significant in preventing memory loss. Make sure to get your fruit and vegetable servings in. Don’t forget avocados!), many are filled with antioxidants that help protect your brain cells. Eat more foods with omega-3 fatty acids such as salmon, tuna and foods cooked with olive oil.

Take a good quality Omega-3 supplement such as Innate Choice or Nordic Naturals. Green tea is another option that has powerful antioxidants to protect from brain damage. Stay away from sugar and sugary foods.

Your memory is important at any age. Start incorporating these healthy habits to keep a strong memory for years to come.

ultrasound if done according to guidelines won't harm you and your baby .gen 2D scans are done which a safe.risks due to heat effect can be due to Doppler studies or 4D scans that too when done in first three months.def it should be done only when indicated.purpose is to see that baby is safe and growing as per gestational age so don't worry.

Will I be able to surgical abortion in the 8-9 week of pregnancy? What are the after effects? Will be able to continue my office?

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
If pregnancy is between 7-12 weeks; surgical abortion is the only option. Advantages of surgical abortion quick procedure. Complete abortion easily verified by evaluation of aspirated products of conception. Takes place in a hospital so sterilization or placement of an intrauterine device (iud) may be performed at the same time as the procedure. It can be performed under local anaesthesia if woman is properly motivated and counselled. Disadvantages of surgical abortion requires instrumentation of the uterus. Small risk of uterine or cervical injury. Timing of abortion controlled by the doctor and hospital. Anaesthesia wneeds to be administered. Most doctors perform this procedure under short general anaesthesia. Woman needs to be in the hospital for at least 6 hours. Effect of sedation will be there throuout the day. You can join work after 1-2 days rest.

For the sake of pregnancy, best period for intercourse is from 10th to 20th day of normal 30 days cycle. To set your body rhythm right it should have adequate sleep and timely meals. Your weight should be as close to the ideal for age and height, as possible. Males should avoid smoking, alcohol and tight pants. Logically the best position would be with man on top so sperm entry is aided by gravity. Take a 2 hour nap before you go for a wash.

Lifestyle Diseases and it's Management

Doctor In Alternative Medicne , MBBS
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Gurgaon
Play video

My name is Vaibhav Garg. I’m a nutritionist and wellness consultant with appropriate diet therapy centre and as the name suggest appropriate diet therapy means the use of food and diet as a means of therapy and we have presence pan India. I’m going to speak to you about lifestyle disorders.

Now, what are lifestyle disorders?

People in India especially are facing problems such as diabetes, cancer, arthritis, heart issues at an alarming rate and these are not diseases. These are problems that have come up as results of your lifestyle as a result of you’re the air you breathe the water you drink the food you eat. Currently, the kind of treatments that are available for these issues does not provide any permanent relief. If I was to take diabetes as for example, you are put on medicines like midformen, or you are put on synthetic insulin by your doctor, but that’s not really the cure for diabetes. If I take arthritis, for example, the replacement seems to be the only solution but that is not entirely true.

If I take cancer, for example, chemotherapy, radiation is just not the solution. Cancer cells are present in everyone’s body. I want to keep it as simple as possible for the viewers out there. But there is something that triggers the mutation of cancer cells and that is the acidic food that we take. Those who have some knowledge they will know that our body functions in an alkaline environment. But 80% of the food that we intake in our Indian dietary system is acidic in nature. When I say acidic food, acidic food is one that deprives the cells of oxygen and cancer cells thrive in the deoxygenated environment. You need to give your body the right sort of alkaline food and we have seen in years of research and with our patients that the right kind of food can give miraculous results. You do not need any kind of chemotherapy radiation.

Your body is the best hospital that is if you give it the right environment, if you feed it the right food, you can overcome any of these problems. I would just like to add no matter what problem you are facing you should know all the facts; you should have all the facts in place. We are society greatly influenced by mass psychology tradition but you should understand that our body doesn’t work on mass psychology, tradition or culture. Its based on scientific principle and you need to feed your body with the scientifically correct diet. If you that be assured you will not have any kind of issues going forward. So my message to you is this b educated, have the right knowledge before you blindly follow anyone, be it me or any other doctor.

If you have any queries with regards to food that you have to intake you can always get in touch with us via lybrate.

See if she did not had sex there was no need to take i-pill. After ipill menses can come irregular for some time. Menses can be delayed because of stress or hormonal changes or illness or weight gain also. If she did not had sex in last month and if there was no issue of i-pill this time around, there is no reason to worry. Menses will come and there is no need to take urine pregnancy test.
