10 Tips to Sleep Better

10 Tips to Sleep Better

10 tips for how to sleep better:

  1. Rest in cozy comfort: quality mattress, soft blankets and cool temperature will reduce annoying distractions (too hot! achy back!) and help you relax.
  2. Turn on some soothing sounds: use a sound machine or a fan to drown out what may be preventing you from falling asleep within 15 minutes of laying down.
  3. Complete darkness: If your room isn’t completely dark, consider a sleep mask—this will also increase your natural production of melatonin, which is not only a great sleep inducer but a great cancer fighter as well (study).
  4. Snooze-inducing smells: wearing lavender lotion or using a diffuser with lavender essential oil may help you hit deep sleep sooner. Plus, who doesn’t love the smell of lavender? ahhh…
  5. Turn off tech and meditate: Turn off tech at least 1 hour before going to bed. Then, keep lights dim and read or meditate to let your body naturally make some sleepy melatonin (the hormone that is produced as it gets dark out, and regulates sleep and wake cycles).
  6. Skip or reduce caffeine: Caffeine not only prevents many folks from falling asleep at night initially, but it can also decrease the amount of restful sleep that happens at night (study). If you’re having trouble sleeping at night, try decaf, herbal tea or keep it to one cup very early in the morning.
  7. Go easy on the alcohol: Alcohol feels like a sedative at first because it slows down motor and brain function, leaving us feeling relaxed and worry-free. But, as it’s metabolized, acetaldehyde is produced, which acts like a stimulant in our bodies. This is what wakes us up in the wee hours of the morning unable to get the rest we need. So for a good night’s sleep, peel back on the alcohol and drink it earlier and with food (or not at all).
  8. No nicotine: Nicotine is similar to caffeine in that it’s a stimulant and may cause insomnia. And even once you fall asleep, you’ll have decreased slow wave sleep, which means it’s less restorative (study). Tough love: stop smoking
  9. Exercise: Try to fit in 20-30 min of moderate exercise daily, but make sure to do it several hours before bed. Ideally, 20-30 minutes of cardio in the morning with some restorative yoga in the afternoon.
  10. Clear your mind: If you’re tossing and turning after switching the lights off, you may need to hit the reset button on your mind. Here are a few things to try. Before going to bed, journal—jot it all down. You could also try a guided meditation. If you can’t fall asleep after lying in bed for 15 minutes, get up and do something relaxing for 15-30 minutes before returning to bed. Don’t give up. You’ll find a strategy that works for you.

General Physician,
If a vocal cord paralysis is termed idiopathic, no cause has been identified. The aim of this study was to assess the prognosis and management of patients with an idiopathic vocal cord paralysis. Patients with an idiopathic vocal cord paralysis should be suspected of harbouring a malignancy unless vocal cord mobility recovers, and management of the laryngeal dysfunction should be expectant for up to 12 months.

You don't need to be so helpless. Sodium valproate is a good medication for epilepsy control, though it takes some tome to start action. The dose of sodium valproate may need supervised changes and may need add on medications at times for control of seizures. Consult a neurophysician for the same. Also a brain imaging like MRI scan might be useful to rule out possible causes of uncontrolled seizures at his age.

My mother is suffering from meningioma diagnosed before 1 week through MRI. But doctors said that it is not a problem because it is small and found in mri sometimes in everyone. Is it a serious case? Or need consulting another neuro surgeon? Thanks in advance She has severe headache frequently now a days Is this happening due to meningioma? Mri report as follows Extra axial mass lesion in the right occipital convexity and a broad base towards dura Subtle hyperintensity in the left putamen ischemic or metabolic etiosy.

Neurologist,
My mother is suffering from meningioma diagnosed before 1 week through MRI. But doctors said that it is not a problem...
Hi, Yes sometimes it so happens that a meningoma may be found incidentally which Imaging brain - which means it is not related to her headaches. If the meningioma is small and not causing any mass effects- there is no reason to worry. Perhaps get a follow up MRI brain in a year to see if it's size is stable. From the information you shared, I concur with her doctor's opinion- her headaches could be migraines, which are the most common headache type or tension type headaches- but that cannot be said with certainty without specific questioning about her headaches. PS- the other MRI finding in putamen also is unrelated to headaches, but without looking at the scan I cannot confirm what it actually means.

1. avoid caffeine found in coffee, tea , chocolate, cola, and some pain relievers.[four to six hours before bedtime.] 2. quiet, dark, and cool environment can help promote sound sleep. . [Use heavy curtains, or an eye mask to block light, and also keeping computers, TVs, and other work materials out of the room will help promote mental bonding between your bedroom and sleep] 3. Avoid stressful, stimulating activities like doing work, discussing emotional issues. Physically and psychologically stressful activities can cause the body to secrete the stress hormone cortisol, which is associated with increasing alertness.

You must consult your diabetologist. Numbness is caused due to uncontrolled diabetes due to neuropathy. Good control mostly reverses these symptoms. It is not possible to give medicines with examination & full assessment.

Hello, main causes of sleeping disorders are as follows:- significant life stress (job loss or change, death of a loved one, divorce, moving) illness. Emotional or physical discomfort. Environmental factors like noise, light, or extreme temperatures (hot or cold) that interfere with sleep. Do meditation every morning. Take kali phos 6x, 5 tabs every night. Take avena sativa q, 10 drops and passiflora q, 30 drops, mix them in half cup of water and drink it, half an hour before your bed time, daily for a month. This will definitely help you. Thanks.

I am suffering from severe headache since 3 days with vomiting tendency. I already have migraine. So what should I do...
Hello, according to ayurveda this might be due to increased body heat & acidity level for migraine too. 1) massage with stress relief oil or warm coconut oil to head, neck, and ears. 2) apply chandan powder +2-4 saffron threads+ pinch of cinnamon (dalchini) lep with rose water to forehead. 3) take 8 hrs sleep in the night. 4) avoid oily & spicy food. 5) pour 3-4 drops of warm pure cow ghee in both nostrils in head low position 6) do eye check up if headache persist
