How much intense your workout can be, it's not going to work until your food habits are wrong & poor, because it can never balance your energy expenditure & intake.

Proper examination is required to know the reason for it, but at this age it could be due to bad posture or mechanical backache, you should start with back exercises under the guidance by a physiotherapist.

Losing your hair can do serious damage to your self-esteem. But luckily, there are plenty of options out there now to help you fight it. Hair loss can affect both men and women. Hair loss is very common these days because of increased stress, nutritional deficiencies, lack of exercise and increase intake of junk food. Other causes of hair fall could be genetic, hormonal imbalances, under-active thyroid gland, and insufficient blood circulation in the scalp. There are many treatment options for hair loss including medications, home remedies and cosmetic procedures such as hair transplants. There are various available for preventing hair loss, consult me a homoeopath to know which medicines you should take. If you're considering a hair transplant, it's important that you choose a doctor who focuses specifically on the technique by treating at many patients in a year, and who has experience with all different hair types. An experienced doctor can help minimize scarring and create a more natural hairline. Home remedies would include oiling your hair more often, include amla/indian gooseberry in your diet to promote new hair growth, apple cider vinegar can be effective to control hair fall and it gives soft and manageable hairs.

I have a disk job and in the last 2 years, my weight has gone up from 75 kgs to 80 kgs. I want to lose weight. Please help.

Homeopath, Howrah
Natural way of weight loss is by routine exercise like walking, running, yoga and healthy diet which contains boiled vegetables, more fiber, low carbohydrate and fatty food. Medicines work temporarily for weight loss. Skipping meals will not help. If any medical condition is related then that can be treated.

How to Cope With Post-Surgery Pain

General Surgeon, Noida
How to Cope With Post-Surgery Pain

The word 'surgery' is often dreaded by most patients. Be it an invasive oral surgery or a keyhole gallbladder surgery, it does not evoke a ready 'yes' in most patients. There are too many patients who are ready to be on long-term medications if they could to avoid the surgery and its complications. While there could be swelling, bruising, tingling and many other symptoms, the one feared by most is the postoperative pain. What happens after the effect of the anesthetic wears off can leave many patients in a very anxious and fearful state. The trick is to prepare oneself not just for the surgery but for the after effects.

Before the surgery, a detailed discussion with the doctor on the following is very important:

  1. List of medications: Complete list of medications include supplements so that the medications used during and after surgery to avoid any potential drug interactions
  2. Type and severity of the pain: This will help you anticipate and be prepared for the pain after the surgery.
  3. Pain tolerance/threshold: Letting your doctor know your tolerance levels can help them prescribe an appropriate pain killer

After the surgery, the following are some ways to cope with the pain:

  1. Pain killers - Don't wait for the anesthesia effect to completely wear out. Take the painkiller much before the pain starts so that the onset of pain is delayed or nullified.  For severe cases, opioids may be used to manage immediate postoperative pain.  However, in most cases, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen are used. They may also be used up to a few days after surgery to ease the pain and inflammation, depending on the type of surgery.
  2. Topical creams/lotions - In cases involving skin incisions, these help reduce the pain in the skin along the incision.
  3. Compression stockings - In addition to reducing blood clot, they also reduce pain in the legs.
  4. Physiotherapy - If there is a joint involved, doing physiotherapy after surgery is extremely beneficial. In addition to reducing pain, they also help improve mobility.
  5. Sleep - Sufficient sleep (more than you normally would) promotes healing and helps your ability to cope with the pain.
  6. Heating pads and ice packs - If these are your regular remedies for pain, feel free to use them even in postsurgical pains.
  7. Reduce Stress - This will help you cope better with the pain and heal faster.

A given patient and a given surgery are a unique combination. No two patients will react the same way to a particular surgery. Postsurgical pain can be managed very effectively with a little planning.

My uncle suffers from pain in his knees when he uses stairs due to increase in his uric acid. What can he do to decrease the pain? Can he be relieved permanently from the pain?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Pain in the knee joints can be due to multiple reasons. One of the common condition is age related arthritis known as osteoarthritis, that affects the cartilage covering the bones and helps in smooth movement. This is a condition occurring due to wear and tear of the cartilage. Increasing uric acid in the blood invariably affects smaller joints like great toe and other smaller joints. Have got the uric acid level checked? is it high? joint pain can be relieved by pain killers or antiinflammatory drugs. Plus weight control and life style management is also helpful. For reducing uric acid levels there are drugs available as well as there is a need to avoid purine rich foods like organ meet, alcohol, chicken, sweetened drinks, certain fishes etc.

Hi Doctor my age is 29 and skin is dull and black but not dark black and much oily skin I want to be fair and oil free skeen bcs I want aslo looking smart I am single not married.

Homeopath, Faridabad
You can take homoeopathic medicines – Berberis Aquefolium Q/ 10 drops in 1/2 cup of water/ thrice a day and Kali Brom. 200/ thrice a day – for 20 days. Wash your face with Bakson's Facewash (wash your face with warm water only) and followed by CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally Sunscreen Gel with SPF-30) after washing your face daily. Use home-made remedies: - Take 1 tbsp of fuller's earth (multani mitti) + a dash of lime + bit of rosewater – apply this on your face till it gets dried up, then rinse it off. - Take 1 tsp of Alum (or fitkari), make it slightly wet with water and apply this on your wet face, spread it well; let it dry and rinse it off. Alum remove your excessive moisture or oil and it also tightens the skin's tonicity.

Loosing weight can cause skin darkening. Especailly if you did a crash diet. Take proper meals, eat vitamin c rich foods and drink apple carrot juice daily. Also drink milk even if you are on a diet, include all these.
