Hello Mr. Lybrate-user, first of all, pls calm down, this doesnot appear to be a serious problem. A lot of people experience numbness, redness and slight swelling on hands and arms while walking. This is because, while walking, most of the blood flow is diverted to legs. What you can do is that while walking, open and close your fists repeatedly. This will increase your blood flow. You may keep smileys balls in hand and squeeze them repeatedly. If this doesnot work, then you may get an ecg done, although, I doubt you will need it. So relax and keep walking. Thanks!

1. Take a break-use 20-20 rule, take a break for 20 second after working in computer for 20 minutes and look at some thing 20 feet away. 2. Blink frequently to prevent dryness of eyes 3. Use of computer glass- it optimises your eye sight when you are looking at digital screen and helps to decrease glare 4. Keep your monitor bright- this decreases flicker 5. Use proper lighting like incandescent light 6. Check position of monitor- monitor should be placed 4-5 inches below eye level and 20-28 inches from eyes 7. Adjust, screen resolution 8. Minimise glare- clean monitor regularly to remove dust and place an anti glare screen 9. Try massage or eye cupping- massaging the area around the eye will relax eye muscle. Rub your hands together to create friction and warmth, then gently cup your palm over the closed eye and rest them 10. Take multivitamin tablet containing vitamin a, c, e, b complex, zinc and antioxidant (one capsule of revital daily after breakfast) 11. Go for yearly eye examination.

I have been asked to do bird dog excercises for numbness & parasthesia of feet. I am 66 yrs old, wt 94 kg with a colles fracture ( optd ). Can not do this ex. Please suggest some thing else.

Brain Tumor - 10 Signs You Must Take Seriously!

A Brain Tumour can be defined as an abnormal growth of the tissues in the brain, which can disrupt the proper brain functions. Generally, the cells in the human body die and are replaced by new cells, while in the case of a tumour, the old cells do not die and form an accumulation and continues to grow to form a mass as more and more cells are added to it.

Symptoms of Brain Tumour:

  1. Headache: Having headache on regular basis, without any history of having such frequent headaches in past, which becomes worse because of other pressure related activities, such as sneezing, coughing, exercising might be a possible symptom of brain tumour and issues related to such sudden and frequent headaches should be taken up with the doctor without any further delay.
  2. Seizures: Seizures (fits) are amongst the most common symptoms of brain tumour, which might be limited to a particular body part or the whole body. Seizures might even continue after the treatment of brain tumour because of the left scar tissues in the brain.
  3. Numbness in arms/legs: Numbness in any body part, especially arms and legs should also be get evaluated timely, so that, if the possible reason behind them is a brain tumour, then the same could be treated well on time.
  4. Balancing problems: Poor coordination and balancing problems also arise as the most prominent symptom for the brain tumour and hence such small changes must be evaluated and the person suffering should be taken to a doctor immediately to get treated without any delay.

  7. Facial paralysis: The inability to keep the facial activities under control also indicates the presence of a possible brain tumour and the same should also be diagnosed as soon as one experiences it.
  8. Change in vision: A person suffering from brain tumour might also experience changes in the vision, dizziness, blurry vision, among other sight related issues.
  9. Change in speech: The inability to speak properly and changes in the speech of a person may also indicate a possible presence of a tumour.
  10. Hearing problems: Sudden occurrence of hearing problems and other hearing related disorders might have the brain tumour as a possible reason.

Diagnosing a brain tumour may include one or more of many tests, including CT scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Angiogram and biopsy. Dear lybrate-user, Brain tumour is almost impossible in your case. Most common cause of headache in your age is chronic tension type headache (CTTH). CTTH is a peri cranial muscle problem. It will improve significantly on medication. So don't worry, good treatment are the just consult psychiatrist. All d best.

Causes and Symptoms of Dementia

Dementia cannot be singularly regarded as a specific disease, but rather indicates a group of symptoms associated with your memory, cognitive thinking, and social abilities, up to the point where daily functioning gets affected. In most cases, dementia steadily worsens over time (progressive dementias). Dementia is not to be confused with memory loss alone; because it is natural with old people to experience memory loss, but that does not necessarily mean they have dementia. If the reason is dementia, then you may require medical treatment.

Causes:

Dementias are generally caused either by damage to or changes in the nerve cells operating in the brain. The causes can be grouped differently based on the type of dementia experienced and the part of the brain affected. While some causes can be reversed with effective treatment, others, unfortunately, cannot.

The most common causes of dementia which cannot be reversed include:

  1. Alzheimer's disease
  2. Vascular dementia
  3. Parkinson's disease
  4. Frontotemporal dementia
  5. Dementia with Lewy (dementia which is neurodegenerative and progressive in nature) bodies
  6. Severe head injuries

Other irreversible causes which are relatively rarer than usual include:

  1. Huntington's disease (breakage of the brain's nerve cells)
  2. Creutzfeldt-jakob disease (irreversible and fatal brain disease)
  3. Multiple sclerosis or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
  4. Infections like syphilis
  5. Leukoencephalopathies (diseases affecting the brain's'white' areas)
  6. Brain injuries
  7. Multiple system atrophy

Causes of dementia which can be treated include:

  1. Hypothyroidism
  2. Heavy metal poisoning
  3. Certain brain tumors
  4. Chronic alcoholism
  5. Hiv/aids
  6. Vitamin b12 deficiency
  7. Medicinal side effects or abnormal drug reactions
  8. Normal pressure hydrocephalus
  9. Certain cases of encephalitis

Symptoms

Symptoms of dementia include:

  1. Memory loss
  2. Difficulty finding the right words
  3. Difficulty exercising judgments, especially during emergencies
  4. Inability to recall particular events or to recognize people and places
  5. Depression or other mood disorders, in addition to symptoms like uncontrolled aggression or constant agitation.

Maintain a sleep-wake cycle. Sleep at appropriate time and wake up at fixed time. Avoid disturbing factors like noisy environment, eat nutitional food, avoid heavy meals at night. Eat food 2 hr before dinner and have a glass of warm milk before sleep.

You need to check if there is any fine hair line fracture or not. Plain xray can show that. Usually for finger injuries its important to rest the finger by strapping it to the adjacent finger for few weeks depending on the extent of injury and then start stretching exercises and strengthening for the same. Use ice or mild heat over painful area to reduce pain. Good luck for speedy recovery.

1. Take one tablet of crocin pain relief as and when required upto a maximum of three tablets daily after food 2. Cold sponging sos 3. Drink plenty of water 4. Take rest 5. If no relief do blood examination like esr, cbc, widal/ typhidot test, blood for mp/malaria antigen, dengue antigen (ns1) test, urine re/me after consulting physician and follow the advice and treatment.

Waking Up And Being Unable To Move
Have you ever woken up in the middle of the night terrified and been unable to move?
Sleep paralysis is a phenomenon that occurs when a person wakes up from a sleep being unable to move, speak, or react.
It usually occurs as a person is about to fall asleep or as they are about to wake up out of sleep, and is usually accompanied with breathing difficulties.
This may not sound like a big deal for those who haven?t experienced it, but it can be terrifying at times.
You are totally paralyzed and unable to wake yourself up.
When you are in a state of paralysis,it is the brains natural response to think that you are under attack, so your brain naturally enters into a state of ?flight? mode.
Sometimes, sleep paralysis is accompanied by hallucinations or the feeling that there is an intruder in the room.
Some people even claim to sense the presence of demonic entities that sit on their chest, or aliens that stand over top of them.
In fact, the Chinese used to call this experience ?Gui Ya? which means ?ghost pressure?, and they believed that a ghost would come sit on your chest as you sleep and paralyze you.
What is the scientific reason reason this is happening?
Well, there isn?t any confirmed theory out there yet.
The most plausible scientific explanation is that it is thought to occur when the mind wakes up out of REM sleep while the body is still in a state of atonia to prevent sleepers from acting out their dreams.
I would agree with this for the most part, but who have experienced sleep paralysis with eyes open as one was sitting up in bed after waking up from a sleep, so one know for a fact my brain was not in a REM state of sleep because one could already been awake for several minutes.
In this notification, we will look at what to do to stay calm during sleep paralysis, how to prevent it from happening, and how to use it to your own spiritual advantage.
What to do when you can?t move
I have had a great deal of experiences with sleep paralysis, and have now reached a point where it no longer bothers one anymore.
The first time it happened to someone, One can tried to fight it and forcefully wake myself up from it.
This only caused by ones fear and anxiety and was completely ineffective.
If you wake up and realize you are in a state of sleep paralysis, don?t resist it.
The minute you resist it, you will start freaking out.
Accept it, and treat it as an opportunity to practice patience and peace of mind.
Conscious breathing really helps keeping your mind from entering freak-out mode.
Breathe in slowly and consciously, and exhale slowly and consciously.
Don?t panic.
Make it your mission when you are in sleep paralysis to be as calm as you can, and treat it as a chance to be fully present within your body.
Enter a meditative state of mind, and it will shortly pass with time.

There have been times where one have heard voices in ear while being paralyzed, but One remained calm by meditating and practicing conscious breathing.
It?s kind of like taking psychedelic drugs.
You can give yourself a bad experience by what you choose to think about and where you allow your mind to wander.
It can only have power over you if you give it your power.
Keep your attention inside your breath.
Pretend that you chose you would experience sleep paralysis at that time, and full embrace the experience with peace of mind.
Prayer has also brought many people peace during scary experiences of sleep paralysis, so if you feel comfortable calling out to God, that will only help bring you more comfort.
Preventing sleep paralysis
There are several factors that have been identified as increasing your chances of experiencing sleep paralysis.
Some of these include physical fatigue, under-sleeping, and erratic sleep schedule,stress, and an overuse of stimulants.
For me personally, oversleeping is what has caused most of my sleep paralysis experiences.
Most of the happen when one choose to go back to sleep even when one can rested, or when one take a nap throughout the day.
So a big way to prevent paralysis from happening is to have a proper sleep schedule.
Healthier sleep habits is the best thing you can do to avoid this experience.
Another big way to prevent sleep paralysis is to not sleep in supine position.
This is what supine position looks like:
When you sleep flat on your back in supine position, your soft palate is more likely to collapse and obstruct your breathing.
This causes you to wake up out of deep sleep while your body is still in a state of atonia from REM sleep.
Sleeping on your stomach (in prone position) or on your side is a good way to prevent this from happening.
Using sleep paralysis to your spiritual advantage
Sleep paralysis can be a burden for some, and an opportunity for others.
Not only can you treat it as a test to see how present and calm you can become,you can also use it a chance to try to initiate an out-of-body experience or a lucid dream.
Remember, some part of you remains in REM sleep while your waking mind is alert and attentive.  What if this REM atonia is a sort of toolbox that enables you to use your will, intention, and visualization to leave your body and enter into new worlds?

Affirm to yourself that you are going to have an out-of-body experience, and visualize yourself hovering over top of your own body.
Feel yourself starting to leave your body, and stay calm in your mind knowing that you will soon be outside of your body.
Many people claim that they try to induce sleep paralysis on purpose as one of the beginning stages of astral travel.
Don?t think if yourself as a victim to a scary experience.
Think of yourself as a pioneer on the edge of a world of lucid dreams and astral travel and create the experience you want for yourself.  Science tells us that we are literally at the brink of the world of sleep and dreams and the world of waking life.
Why not use it to your spiritual advantage and experiment a little bit?
The truth is, there is really nothing to be scared of.
Nobody has ever died or been injured from being in sleep paralysis,and it usually doesn?t last for more than 30 seconds.
Work with it, practice presence, clean up your sleep schedule, and if you feel like you?re up to it, use is as a launching pad for the exploration of other dimensions.

Epilepsy is defined as a neurological disorder, which affects people of all age groups. However, the cases of seizures are found more in young children (likely to occur in as many as 4% of children) than in adults. It is still not known as to why a developing brain is more prone to seizures than a mature brain. A child is said to be suffering from epilepsy when they occur frequently. 

As parents your responsibilities are compounded if your child has epilepsy. You not only have to pay heed towards the normal concerns of his/her upbringing but also have to look into your child's emotional aspects, while dealing with the disorder in your day to day life.

You can help your child deal with the condition in the following ways:

1. It is quite likely that your child may feel resentful and develop emotional issues, such as depression or low self-esteem. Help your child cultivates positive attitude towards life and his/her disease.
