What i can see is you are overweight, but how much exactly i can tell you if you let me know your height. You definitely need to loose weight to avoid stress on your knee joint. Also what other symptoms do u have and since when you are having this pain? you should not go for brisk walking, instead do some exercises for quadriceps strengthening.

Sir, you can continue Ayurveda. U can take medications for pain relief, either Ayurvedic or Allopathic or Homeopathic, according to your choice, but only after consulting the doctor and getting prescription. Still, I'll suggest avoid medicines unless you have excruciating, intolerable pain. Go for physiotherapy. It'll give you results, may be slowly but surely. And without medication. Also Physiotherapy uses Therapeutic Yoga, which are exercises similar to Yoga asanas, but designed to suit individual patient needs, and that's better for you than regular Yoga coz you should only do those exercises which will benefit you.

Hi ~use elastic bandages (such as an ace bandage) to wrap your ankle. ~wear a brace to support your ankle. ~use crutches for walking till swelling and pain subsides. ~keep your foot raised above your heart with pillows when resting or sleeping to reduce swelling. ~get plenty of rest and do not put weight on your ankle. Still you don't get relief than visit physiotherapist as physical examination /xray may be required for further investigation. Wishing you a good health.

Causes and treatment of knee pain in youngsters

Hello everybody I am Dr. Biren Nadkarni, consulting orthopedic and joint replacment surgeon attached to Holy Family and Sitaram Bhartia Hospitals in New Delhi. Today I am going to talk about knee pain in young people. Knee pain is always discussed in context of old people where it is more seen in lines of arthritis, osteoarthritis, or rheumatoid arthritis. But we get a lot of patients who have the problem of knee pain especially in younger age group. I thought I should devote this session to this knee pain in younger age group. First and foremost problem we see in patients of younger age groups with knee pain is anterior knee pain or patellofemoral knee pain.

what exactly are the causes. If this is your knee joint (displaying with a model of knee joint) and this is how your knee cap behaves every time on bending there is a problem when the kneecap tends to rub on one side and you can see a friction happening here. This is a common problem occurring in young ladies and it's called anterior knee pain and more technically chondromalacia patellae. We normally tell our patients that this is not a precursor of arthritis, it is mainly a inflammatory problem where the under surface of the knee cap gets inflamed and leads to constant pain specially on sitting for long durations it is in fact called a movie theatre sign because people who sit for 2/3 hours and suddenly want to get up they feel knee pain and they are not able to straighten their knee.

The problem is normally addressed by physiotherapy, of course we need to get x-rays and investigations but what they respond to is good physiotherapy and anti inflammatory medications.
And if the problem we face in younger people are ligament injuries especially anterior cruciate ligament injuries. All adolescent people who have had injuries while playing soccer or any other games or while running and in your country specially bike injuries are a major problem which leads to this problem. These people normally come to us with instability, pain when walking for long distances, swellings in the knee and this causes lot of pain.

Anterior cruciate ligament injuries is normally treated by anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction which is a arthroscopic procedure, and it’s a day care procedure or normally a one day admission procedure and the patient is discharged the next day. Similar to anterior cruciate ligament injuries we also have Meniscus injuries. Meniscus are two cushions in the knee joint and they tend to reduce the loads on the joint as the patient puts weight on the joint. So the blue tissue (displaying from the model) you can see is basically a meniscus, there is one on the inside and one on the outside. This is the medial meniscus and this is the lateral meniscus, and if you have a tear here it will also cause a lot of pain. Medial and lateral meniscus tear can occur independently or they can occur with other injuries like Anterior cruciate ligament injuries. These injuries are normally treated by arthroscopic evaluation, repairs or meniscectomy and sometimes we require repair also for them,

I would like to ask my viewers if they have any queries any genuine questions they can see my profile on Lybrate and contact me.

Tennis Elbow - Tips To Help You Prevent It!

Tennis Elbow - Tips To Help You Prevent It!

Tennis elbow is a condition which is characterized by a sharp pain on the outer portion of the elbow. This condition is also called ‘lateral epicondylitis’ and it occurs when the muscles of the elbow are overused. The symptoms of pain tend to occur near the forearm when you bend your elbow or try to grip an object.

Causes
The elbow joint comprises of muscles which facilitate movement of the wrist, elbows and the fingers. There are tendons present in the elbow which join the muscles and bones, thus regulating the forearm muscles. When the muscles of the elbow are overused, then it can lead to inflammation and tears in the muscles.

This condition is so called as it is usually caused by playing certain sports, primarily tennis. It may also be caused by activities that put repetitive stress on the elbow. If the same pain occurs around the inner portion of the elbow, it is called a ‘golfer’s elbow’.

Prevention
The best treatment method to prevent tennis elbow is to strengthen your elbow muscles. You need to follow a regulated strength and stretching program directed at strengthening the muscles of the body, including the elbows.

Here are some tips to prevent tennis elbow:

  1. Try to stay in good shape physically.
  2. Use proper technique when you are carrying out any activity that involves the elbow.
  3. Avoid overstressing the elbow joint with repetitive movements as it can cause injury to the tendon.
  4. The muscles of the shoulder, arm and the upper back should be strengthened to prevent tennis elbow.
  5. For movements that require you to twist your arm or grasp things, you can use a counter force brace to protect your elbow. This brace is worn on the forearm which redistributes pressure on the muscle. A counter force brace is recommended for people who are at an increased risk of tennis elbow. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an Orthopedist.

Dear lybrate-user, you may suffer meniscal tear. Get X-ray and mri scan of your knee to find any bony or soft lesion there. It would be best if you visit an orthopedist in person before you get these done. Till then you can take mild antiinflammatory medication. Use ice packs. And don't sit down or cross-legged.

My mother is 66 yrs. Old and suffering from Osteoarthritis since a long time. She has consulted with many doctors but gets no relief.

Most probably your mother is suffering from oa of knee. Knee surgery-total knee replacement (tkr) is quite safe & gives uniformly good results, in our hands. We have well equipped center in delhi. Surgery should be done when patient is still active & will be able to take benefit of surgery. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem. Kindly show me x- rays before a final decision can be taken. You will be thoroughly investigated before surgery is undertaken. Risk in surgery is less than the risk in crossing road.

I have internally pain in my shoulder for a long time. I want to your medical help.

MSc in Orhopedic Physiotherapy (UK), BPTh/BPT

I have internally pain in my shoulder for a long time. I want to your medical help.
Shoulder pain can be a result of injury or disease of the shoulder joint. Injury can affect any of the ligaments, bursae, or tendons surrounding the shoulder joint. Injury can also affect the ligaments, cartilage, menisci and bones of the joint. Some minor shoulder pain can be treated at home. Icing the shoulder for 15 to 20 minutes, three or four times a day for two to three days can help reduce pain. Use an ice bag or wrap ice in a towel (putting ice directly on your skin can cause frostbite). Rest the shoulder and avoid any movements that might cause pain. Simple shoulder exercises can help to stretch and strengthen muscles and rotator cuff tendons. Consult a physiotherapist, who can show you how to do them properly. Best wishes.

Dear you must be already taking some medicines for diabetes and hypertension which probably keeps these under control. For the knee pain the temporary measure is painkillers followed by knee replacement. It is a conventional treatment. But there is a natural treatment which may possibly cure these problems.
