Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually knee replacement is a procedure designed to make patient ambulate and live a healthy life. Although your mother is 85 yrs old, decision for surgery depends upon her activity levels, as in is she active in her life, does she used to walk 3-4 months back, what are her other co morbid conditions etc? if she is a healthy 85 yrs female, then she can certainly benefit from surgical procedure but will require proper detailed evaluation for it. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance. You can also discuss your case and treatment plans with me in a greater detail in a private consultation.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Normally it depends upon a lot of causes, like the kind of surgery, the kind of soft tissue injury initially etc. But if all has went well, you should be good in 8-12 weeks time, normally such a prolonged period leads to stiffness and muscle atrophy, so gentle mobilization exercises, and physical therapy should be initiated as early as 4 weeks but it depends upon the treating doctor as he is the best judge. I can answer you in a better manner if I can have your latest x ray and clinical pictures showing status of your wound healing. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Tips to ease back pain at work place

Tips to ease back pain at work place
Here are some helpful measures that can help ease back pain while at work:

Make sure that you pay attention to your posture while sitting in front of a computer.
Avoid sitting for long periods in front of a computer.
Take frequent short breaks – if possible, try taking a five minute walking break every hour.
Make sure you change your posture as much as you can, rise up and stretch whenever you feel tired.
Choose a chair that is comfortable and support your back as well as that allows you to rest both feet flat on the floor and shoulder-width apart.
When sitting, try to position your knees at 90 degrees, directly over your ankles to keep your spine comfortably upright.
Don't sit with your legs crossed. It will make difficult to keep your spine straight and shoulders squared, thereby worsening back pain.
Place your system at an optimal level so that you don't have to contort your head and neck to work on it.
Keep your screen at eye level about an arm’s length away. You mouse should be kept right next to your keyboard.
Try to keep your weight balanced on your feet while standing.
If you have to speak on the phone frequently, use a headset or speakerphone to avoid bending your head and neck which will only aggravate the pain.

Its just muscle soreness. You can just dip the leg in hot water. Wear knee cap while running. Be patients and do not stop jogging. Happy exercise.
