It is due to mumps parotitis. Conservative, supportive medical care is indicated for patients with mumps. No antiviral agent is indicated for treatment of this viral illness, as mumps is a self-limited disease. Encouraging oral fluid intake is essential, as maintenance of adequate hydration and alimentation of patients is important. Refrain from acidic foods and liquids as they may cause swallowing difficulty, as well as gastric irritation. Prescribe analgesics (acetaminophen, ibuprofen) for headaches or discomfort due to parotitis. Topical application of warm or cold packs to the swollen parotid area may soothe the region. Stronger analgesics may be required for patients with orchitis. Bed rest, scrotal support, and ice packs are recommended.

The simplest method of removing minor surface stains is polishing, or micro-abrasion if staining is more intrinsic. Provided that your discolouration is not due to inadequate enamel exposing the dentin, tooth whitening (bleaching) is often the most effective treatment for yellow stained teeth. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply snowdent paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min. Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results.

How is your sugar control. You can definitely go ahead with your surgery provided the sugar control is good. You have to understand that everything is inter related. Bad sugars lead to bad teeth (infection) and bad teeth can lead to bad sugars so check your hba1c and fasting sugars.

To prevent the birth of cavities in your teeth, avoid consuming acidic drinks or food as they soften the tooth material which causes the dissolution of the minerals into the tooth enamel.

Dental Care Tips for Diabetes Patients

Diabetes is a chronic, systemic disease and affects all parts of the body. While its effect on the nerves, eyes, kidneys, and skin is more common, their oral effects are less known. However, diabetes will vouch how they lost tooth and have dry mouth after their sugars went out of control.
Oral Symptoms in Diabetics: There is a strong correlation between oral health and poorly controlled blood sugars. Some of the common oral indications of diabetes are as follows.
Dry Mouth: There is less amount of saliva, which brings with it a whole lot of symptoms including soreness of the mucosa, ulcers, increased chances of infection, gum inflammation and tooth decay.
Thrush: The saliva has higher sugar levels and attracts fungus (Candida in particular) which thrives in this dry, sugary environment. This produces a burning sensation in the mouth.
Periodontal Disease: The gums get severely infected with gingival recession, where the gum line recedes exposing more of the tooth (tooth length seems to have increased). There is pocket formation, or space between the tooth and the gum which hosts a variety of bacteria. The periodontal ligament loses its strength to hold the tooth in place, and thereby teeth become mobile. If not worked upon in time, there could be multiple teeth lost.
As much as it sounds alarming, it is not. There are easy, simple ways to manage these. In fact, good overall management of diabetes will ensure the oral symptoms are also maintained under control. Following are some things to do which will help in managing diabetes in general and the oral symptoms in particular:
As soon as diabetes is diagnosed, visit a dentist to take stock of the oral health condition. Any identified problem should be treated to avoid progression.
Keep a close watch to ensure blood sugar remains as close to normal as possible.
Switch to a toothbrush with soft or extra-soft bristles. This will help reduce the pressure on the gums and thereby prevent gum bleeding
After every meal, remember to brush the teeth.
Flossing at least once a day will help remove food deposits between the teeth. Alternately, use interdental brushes.
Rinse at least twice daily using an antiseptic mouthwash.
Denture-wearers should always clean them daily and never go to sleep with the denture in the mouth.
Smoking with diabetics is a strict no-no, work on quitting at the earliest.
Visit a dentist every 3 months to ensure oral issues are identified at the earliest and treatment done with minimal intervention.
Any dental procedure should be done only when sugar levels are under control.
These will ensure not just oral health but also overall control of diabetes.

Avoid sugary foods. When bacteria in the mouth break down simple sugars, they produce acids that can erode tooth enamel, opening the door to decay. “Sugary drinks, including soft drinks and fruit drinks, pose a special threat because people tend to sip them, raising acid levels over a long period of time,Carbonated drinks may make matters worse, since carbonation also increases acidity.Sticky candies and chocolates are another culprit, because they linger on teeth surfaces.

Hello regaining color is little difficult as tetracycline stains are intrinsic that is they are from within. Else the best and definite solution is to mask the stains with the emax laminates.

If there is any sharp points in the denture that is impinging on the gums and causing problem then you need to go the dentist and he will make the surface smooth. It will hardly take 10mins. But for new denture users it will always take time to adapt to it. Initially you will hav difficulties but gradually you will become habituated. Thank you.

Is it More Important to Brush Your Teeth in the Night Than in the Morning?

Why it's more important to brush your teeth in the night than in the morning

Most people wake up every morning and stumble to wash their teeth first thing. Do you believe that brushing your teeth in the morning is sufficient to keep your mouth healthy?

While it is important to brush your teeth in the morning for good oral hygiene, what goes on in your mouth all night is even more important. Brushing your teeth once a day is barely enough to maintain perfect oral hygiene. By brushing twice a day you can make the difference.

Do you know why it can be important to brush at night since you are only about to sleep?

Here are a few things that brushing before bed does.

1. Reduces acid build up

Everyone has acid being constantly produced in their mouths. The saliva secreted contains calcium which neutralizes the acid being built up. At night the saliva secretion slows down which allows the acids to get accumulated. The acids keep corroding the teeth all night. When you brush your teeth, the fluoride present in the toothpaste stimulates saliva secretion. So by brushing before bed you ensure that the saliva secretion does not fall drastically. In the process you prevent your teeth from getting corroded.

2. Reduces bacterial multiplication

The saliva in our mouth not only neutralizes the acid it reduces bacteria from multiplying as well. During the reduced saliva production, as you sleep, the bacteria in your mouth multiply manifold and attack your teeth and gums. This is why keeping your saliva secretion regular by brushing before bed is of utmost importance.

3. Reduces the decay of food particles

After you have your dinner just rinsing your mouth is not enough. Tiny food particles that get stuck in your teeth rot overnight. It is best to go to bed with a clean mouth rather than a mouth with tiny decaying food particles.

No matter how much of a task it might seem like, brushing at night is as important, if not more important, than brushing in the morning.

How I can heal my cavities in my teeth.
Medication can not heal cavities. Visit the dentist and get the filling done, if the cavities are small. If they are very deep and painful, you may require root canal treatment or extraction (removal).

Hi foul smell or halitosis can be due to some conditions like cavities, tooth abcess, gum disease, food impaction between teeth, tobacco products, alcohol and smoking. If is important to rule out the cause of halitosis. After that treatment plan can be decided accordingly. Rinse your mouth with chlorhexidine mouthwash after each meal. Floss your tooth to prevent food impaction. Maintain proper oral hygiene.
