Hello Dr. My baby girl is going to complete 2 months on 1st November. Today she did potty N her poop was bright green in colour. Yesterday she had mild fever N last month she had vaccines. (And in my diet I have included cow milk otherwise I never used to had cow milk as it causes gas. And I'm noticing my milk is more watery then before .) Is it normal or any matter of concern? Kindly reply. Waiting for response. Thank you.

What should I do for weight gain of my 11 months old baby girl. She is 8 kilos now.

Vaidya Visharad

Dear,People who are underweight and do not have fat deposits on their body may not be getting enough calories to fuel their body. This could have a direct impact on all of their organs and may eventually lead to a variety of health problems. There are ways to get into the shape we desire and to gain weight fast. This would require understanding the reason for low weight and maintaining a diet for weight gain. In weight loss, the simple formula is to burn more calories than you consume, but to gain weight you have to also find out if there is something in your body that is preventing you from getting to the weight that you desire. I have a 10 month baby girl. She is suffering a fever. How can I handle this? Please advise.
Most fevers are viral and can be managed by you by giving paracetamol drops or suspension according to the weight. It would need to be repeated every 5 to 6 hours for 2 to 3 days. Wiping the most hot parts of the child with lukewarm water will help to get the fever down faster. If child is not improving or has other problems you need to contact a pediatrician.

For repeated cold, do not use any antibiotic. To increase immunity, give vitamin a 60, 000 units daily for 3 to 4 days. Give him food of his taste, if he refuses one item, try another, not all at a time. Don't force feed.

Gestational Diabetes - How It Can Be Treated?

MD - Diabetology, MBBS
Diabetologist, Surat
Gestational Diabetes - How It Can Be Treated?

Women tend to develop high levels of blood sugar during their pregnancy (especially within the 24th and 28th weeks), irrespective of whether they already had suffered from diabetes prior to their pregnancy. However, gestational diabetes, if not taken proper care of, might escalate the risks of developing diabetes in the near future for both the mother and the child, accompanied by complications in pregnancy or labor. Gestational diabetes is usually characterized by mild symptoms such as excessive urge to urinate, excessive thirst, blurred vision and fatigue.

Causes:
Insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, allows for the utilization of the glucose for energy. The food consumed is broken down by the digestive tract of the body, converting carbohydrates into glucose before releasing it into the bloodstream. The glucose is then absorbed by the cells to be used as an energy source. Now, at the time of pregnancy, the placenta (organ nourishing the fetus) connecting the baby to the blood supply also produces various other hormones in high levels, for instance, estrogen and human placental lactogen. Most of these hinder the normal functioning of insulin in the cells, hence raising the blood sugar count. With subsequent growth of the baby, the placenta keeps on producing more amounts of such insulin resistant hormones to an extent that they are capable of meddling with the development of the baby.

Treatment:
1. Monitoring the blood sugar count at least four to five times a day and keeping it under control might help to ease the complication.
2. A healthy diet consisting of whole grains, vegetables and fruits in the right proportion and limiting sugar or other highly refined carbs meets the nutrition and fiber requirement of the body. Guard against additional weight gain during pregnancy as that hampers the entire process.
3. Exercise or regular physical activities help to normalize blood sugar level by boosting glucose absorption in the cells. Furthermore, exercises also enhance the sensitivity of the cells towards insulin. This means that only a little amount of insulin production by your body would be enough for the transportation of sugar.
4. Medication, If exercise and diet fall inadequate, insulin injections are often administered to control blood sugar count.
5. Keeping the baby under close observation with the help of repeated ultrasound and other tests to record its growth and development is an essential part of the treatment plan. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a gynaecologist.

My daughter age is 6 years old but she do wet bed in night during sleeping. So please advise treatment.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Akola
Normal bladder control develops only after 6 years of age. So don't worry for now. - avoid sweet drinks or food or frequent water intake after 6 in the evening. -before going to bed and after 1-2 hours of sleep she should empty the bladder - don't scold child for wetting the bed. - bed wetting is seen in children having some fear. So always treat them with love. - if wetted, change the bed sheet without her knowledge. It will build her confidence which will help her to get rid of the problem. -get her blood tested for sugar and do her urine test also. Do not please panic, most of the times it comes normal.

If parents have died of aids there are high chances of passing on hiv infection to kids. If tridot blood test done for kids at 6 months of age, will give status of infection. As tests done early in life may give false positive results. Regarding passing on to next generation, it's very difficult to have these positive kids grow up get married and have kids. If kids are non infective with hiv infection then also chance of passing on to next gereartion is zero.
