Importance of milk teeth
Importance of milk teeth
Most of people are very ignorent about the primary or milk teeth of their children. They think that there is no need to take care of them because they will be replaced by permanent teeth. But milk teeth are very very important. Because during the growth years of a child if milk teeth are not healthy and if there are cavities and pain, it will inversely affect the growth of child due to lack of proper nutrition intake.

On other hand milk teeth act as a guidance to eruption of permanent teeth. Pre shedding or over retained primary tooth can lead to abnormal eruption of permanent successor. So alway pay attention for proper brushing habbits of your children and if milk teeth are carious and painful then get it filled or get a pulpectomy or pulpotomy procedure by your dentist to make your child smile bright always!

What is leucoplakia

Certified Implantologist, BDS
Dentist,
Oral leukoplakia (OL) is a white patch or plaque that cannot be rubbed off, cannot be characterized clinically or histologically as any other condition, and is not associated with any physical or chemical causative agent except tobacco. Therefore, a process of exclusion establishes the diagnosis of the disease. In general, the term leukoplakia implies only the clinical feature of a persistent, adherent white plaque; therefore, reserve the term for idiopathic lesions when investigations fail to reveal any cause. The term carries absolutely no histologic connotation, although, inevitably, some form of disturbance of the surface epithelium is characteristic.

Flossing is as important as brushing on a daily basis. Taking the floss all the way down to the point where the teeth and gums meet is the appropriate way of doing it.

The type of treatment you have for toothache /sensitivity/swelling will depend on the cause of the pain, so your dentist will examine your mouth and may carry out an X-ray to try to identify the problem. •If your toothache / sensitivity/swelling is caused by tooth decay, your dentist will remove the decayed area and replace it with a filling. •If your toothache / sensitivity/swelling is caused by a loose or broken filling, the filling will be taken out, any decay will be removed and a new filling put in place. •If the pulp inside your tooth is infected, you may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection. •If your toothache / sensitivity/swelling can't be treated using these methods, or if your tooth is impacted (wedged between another tooth and your jaw), it may need to be removed.

My 3.6 yrs son tooth fell down a year ago and did not grow again, when will the tooth re-grow?

MDS - Orthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Bangalore
Milk teeth usually fall at the age of 6 years onwards. Starting with the middle 2 front lower teeth followed by upper middle 2 front teeth and so on. At the age of 3.6 yrs if the teeth have fallen out needs to be seen why and normally permanent teeth start coming at 6 to 7 years of age. Depending on which tooth had fallen off and what the reason is. A treatment would be necessary.

Its swelling in my tooth base on uper jaw since three month. Last year I needed silver deu to cavity.

Its swelling in my tooth base on uper jaw since three month.
Last year I needed silver deu to cavity.
If the tooth is filled with silver and having swelling at root base than the filling is to be removed and rct will be done for exposed tooth. If the infection is in gum in that case deep cleaning and dressing of pocket may be sufficient this can be ascertained after taking an x ray and than further treatment can be planned.

I am suffering with excessive saliva in my mouth. What could be the reason

MDS Prosthodontics
Dentist,
It can be due to excessive calculus deposits in your mouth which are triggering this increased release of saliva. Other reasons like the type of diet etc also affect the amount of saliva release.

Dental Treatment for Cancer Patients

MDS - Periodontics
Dentist, Delhi
Dental Treatment for Cancer Patients
1) Periodontal treatment and extraction of unrestorable teeth should be performed before transplantation

2) Oral hygiene techniques, including tooth brushing, flossing, diet modification, use of antimicrobial mouth rinses and topical fluorides are initiated, reviewed, and used by all patients.

3) Patients with poor dental status who have demonstrated little interest or ability to improve their oral hygiene must be advised to have their teeth extracted and dentures made.

4) Retained roots and fully impacted teeth without clinical or radiological symptoms are left in place. Implants with a probing depth greater than 7 mm must be explanted.

5) A significant correlation between dental foci and the incidence of Acute GVHD was found although this was also recorded in patients who underwent dental treatment.

(As per a. B. Melkos et al published in journal of Clinical Oral Invest (2003))
