andar sonography (ultrasound) se pregnancy ka pata lagaya ja sakta he?
Why don't do uring pregnancy test. Even if you see pregnancy by usg you need to repeat after one wk. To see whether baby is ok or not. Be coz fetal rate may not b seen.

Hi my wife Now 18 th month pregnant. First scanning made on 12 th Week in dat report amniotic fluid index is normal. In last scanning at 18 th week the anomaly usg scan showed amniotic fluid moderately reduced. So why it is reduced? Apart from all the scanning is normal but amniotic fluid index only reduced. So is it normal? In future it will be normal or not? Tell me details. We r worrying lot. So please ans me. Thank u.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
Gynaecologist,
Hi my wife Now 18 th month pregnant. First scanning made on 12 th Week in dat report amniotic fluid index is normal. ...
When pregnancy occurs along with the baby, a structure named placenta is formed. This placenta is the one which forms the amniotic fluid. The baby passes urine which also maintains the amniotic fluid volume. So if the amniotic fluid is reduced it means there could be a problem with the placental function or baby's kidneys or both. Anomaly scan determines structure of a baby and its organs, even if it is normal it cannot say anything about function. It is better to take medicines to improve the amniotic fluid and if it does, to keep it in normal limits. If the amniotic fluid goes down further, to become severe oligohydramnios, at times it is an indication to terminate the pregnancy. So keep a watch and ask your wife to take 2.5 liters of water daily along with emdicines prescribed by your gynecologist.

Your genes are making you prone to PCOD! + How you can manage it

Factors that are making you prone to pcod! + how you can manage it

A problem of the body's endocrine system (a system of hormone producing glands), polycystic ovarian disease (or pcod) affects about 18% of indian women. Women in the age group of 15-30 years make up the majority of the victims of this disease. Although the root cause of this problem is still unknown, it can be a result of:

1. Genes

A family history of pcod can increase your risk of developing the endocrine disorder. Even a family history of obesity or diabetes can increase your prospect of developing pcod.

2. Low-grade inflammation

Inflammation occurs when the body's white blood cells (wbcs) produce substances to fight harmful matter that attack the body. A disruption of this natural response of the body can cause low-grade inflammation (a mild but sustained inflammatory response brought on by microbial bacteria called endotoxin). As a consequence, it causes the stimulation of polycystic ovaries to create more androgens (male sex hormones) than female sex hormones. This brings about the appearance of pcod symptoms such as ovulation problem, growth of excessive body and facial hair.

3. Excessive insulin production

Excessive insulin (a hormone produced by the pancreas) production occurs when the cells of the body become resistant to insulin. It causes an increase in the production of androgens, in turn affecting the ovaries' ability to release eggs during ovulation.

4. Obesity

Although not a direct cause of the disorder, being obese can increase your chances of pcod significantly. The excess fat in the body can worsen your insulin resistance, and can consequently bring about an increase in the androgen levels, causing weight gain in the end.

5. Unhealthy eating habits

Irregular meal timings and poor eating habits (a diet rich in sugars and carbohydrates) can make you prone to obesity, a risk factor of pcod.

How to manage the problem of pcod?

Although the condition doesn't have a permanent cure, the symptoms can be easily managed by employing these ways:

- limit the intake of refined sugars and carbohydrates to counter the imbalance of insulin and glucose

- exercise for 30-60 minutes a day to boost metabolism for weight loss as well as control of insulin levels

- avoid coffee and other caffeine stimulants that may cause an increase in the production of insulin

- avoid dairy based products and red meat

- include lean meat in your diet

- avoid saturated fats (found in baked foods and lamb, cheese and other dairy products) to control your cholesterol levels

- consume foods that have a low glycaemic index (a scale for determining the effect of food on blood sugar level) such as brown rice, wheat pasta and wholegrain.

Sexual Health - Changes With Age

Aging is a natural process that affects every aspect of wellbeing as one gets older. Be it physical health, mental health, emotional health or sexual health, aging has an impact on it all. The desire for passion and intimacy is one that does NOT recede with age and it is best to adapt to the changes that the body goes through for a more fulfilling experience.
Aging affects the sexual health of men and women in different ways. Furthermore, it has varying effects on men and women.

What are the physiological changes that affect sexual health in women?
The onset of menopause is a major factor that has several key consequences on the sexual health of a woman. It causes alterations in the functioning of the genital and reproductive organs. Once a woman hits the menopausal stage, the vagina tends to get shorter and thinner, with stiff and narrow walls. Vaginal lubrication also decreases. These changes are known to have an impact on the ability of a woman to derive pleasure from sex.

What are the physiological changes that affect sexual health in men?
The most common sexual problem that affects older men is erectile dysfunction. Also known as impotence, this leads to the inability to achieve or maintain an erection. Premature ejaculation is an added issue. The causes for male sexual problems that occur due to aging range from diabetes and obesity to conditions of the heart and vascular system.

What are the main causes of change in sexual health with age?
Following are a few examples of factors that affect sexual performance and health with increasing age:

  • Decreasing hormone levels
  • Chronic joint or muscular pain
  • Development of illnesses or medical conditions
  • Side effects of medication
  • After effects of surgery

For many people, interest in sexual activity does not decrease with age. Getting older should not come in the way of enjoying sex. Having a deep and thorough understanding of the bodies of yourself and your partner as you both age and mature will play an important role in helping the two of you derive pleasure from sex and intimacy.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

First step is to meet Gynecologist and then if required Sexologist. Question of pregnancy after that. Pregnancy can occur only one day of cycle that is ovulation day so unprotected sex around that day only important. As only one day in month nature should be given 12-24 trials before you need any active management by Gynecologist or infertility specialist. As PCOD may have some problems of ovulation along with age of 30 you may meet Gynecologist or infertility specialist early.

Frequently asked questions when your partner has genital herpes.

When you find out a partner has genital herpes, you may be shocked at first and then have lots of questions. Here are some answers.

How likely is it that i've been infected with genital herpes, too?

That depends on whether you have always practiced safe sex, for one thing. Also, it may depend on how long you've been sexually intimate with each other.

If you've had sex only once or twice, and if you used a condom each time, the risk is lower than if you've had unprotected sex for a long time. But you could have been infected during any one encounter.

Don't think you're in the clear because you've never seen herpes sores on your partner's genitals or your own. The symptom of herpes are often subtle and easily mistaken for something else, like bug bites, pimples, razor burn, or hemorrhoids. What's more, the virus can be contagious even when there are no symptoms.

How can I protect myself from genital herpes if we keep having sex?

While no prevention method short of abstinence is 100% effective, using a latex condom offers some protection. Your partner should tell you when symptoms flare up, which is when the virus is most contagious. Avoid sex when your partner has symptoms.
