Sugar is used as a natural exfoliant for skin. It is one of the best home remedies to get rid of stretch marks. Take a tablespoon of sugar. Add some drops of almond oil and lemon juice in it. Stir it well and apply directly on the stretch marks. Rub it for 8-10 minutes and then, take a shower. Continue to use it for one month or so, until the stretch marks gets fade out.

Homoeopathic treatment------------------ b. C.-20 (adel) chew 4 tab 3 times daily------------ r-89 (dr reckeweg) drink 20 drops in 20 ml fresh water 3 times daily. R-89 (dr reckeweg) massage in hair roots 20-30 drops daily 0r alternate days one hour before bath.(in females one hour before bath) anti dandruff oil (wilmar schwabe india) apply atleast twice weekly. Leave overnight-------------------- venome shampoo (biovalley) -----apply twice weekly (if you do not get this shampoo im mkt then 2nd option is anti-dandruff shampoo (wilmar schwabe india)------------------------ getting rid of itching scalp-------- 1. Use less shampoo. If you use too much shampoo, you increase the chances that residue will be left behind. Failure to thoroughly rinse out shampoo of the hair causes scalp irritation and flakiness. 2. Exfoliate your scalp. Getting rid of dry, dead skin cells is just as good for your dry scalp as it is for your face. Mix a tablespoon or two of sugar with your shampoo and gently work it into your scalp with the pads of your fingers. Avoid using your fingernails when lathering up, which can cause nicks or cuts. 3. Avoid extremely hot water. Hot water can dry out the skin and aggravate a dry, flaky scalp. The same is true for heat styling products such as a blow-dryer. Excessive heat can cause the scalp to become irritated and dry. 4. Give yourself a scalp massage. A scalp massage causes blood to flow to the scalp, and helps clear any blocked pores that may be interfering with sebum production. Sebum is the oil produced in the sebaceous glands of the scalp. Massaging the scalp also loosens excess dead skin and dandruff, making it easier to wash away. Give yourself a scalp massage before or during your shampoo, or even when you're relaxing in front of the tv. Putting olive oil on your fingertips before the massage gives your scalp added benefits. After the massage, continue with an olive oil treatment.------------------------ do nd do nots ------------------ 1. Drink 6-8 glasss extra water daily 2. Drink 2 glass milk daily 3. Hi, If you have inherited the dark complexion, we can't change that colour, but can improve the tanning part. Believe me, if you are happy from inside and taking nutritious, healthy food and daily yoga or some kind of exercises, it will be automatically reflected on your face. Yes, the colour which is inherited from your parents/ ancestors, cannot be changed, but you can try to get glow on your face!! Daily Regime: Apart from these, you do follow CTMP, i.e., cleansing, toning, moisturising and protection (apply liberally sunscreen with SPF-30 – a thick layer of Bakson's Suncare cream may be, 20-30 minutes before going out daily and repeat it's application after every 3-4hrs.) after washing your face daily; use the products as per your skin type. This will change the skin texture and skin tone. In case you do have tanning, apply honey with a dash of lime on your face. Eat right and healthy that too on time, relieve your stress/ tensions, sleep well, stop smoking, as this restricts blood flow to your face and leaves you with a greyish complexion. lead a healthy lifestyle! Apart from this, avoid anger, anxiety, fear which increases stress hormone in the body and subsequently makes your complexion darker! (Hormonal imbalances also plays a major role). If the dull and dark skin tone is due to any underlying ailment or diseases, need to look into the matter. Diet: -Increase your Vitamin C intake (lemon,orange,gooseberry,etc.Fruits/juices, strawberries, sweet peppers, tomatoes, cantaloupe, and green peas). - Eat more Vitamin A (nonfat milk, oysters, and egg yolks, carrots, watermelon, papaya, tomatoes, or other dark colored produce) . If you feel your skin is weak or not tight enough, that usually suggests a lack of Vitamin A. Medicine: You can also use homoeopathic cream - Medicynth's Whitch Hazel daily at night. Home remedies: Apply fresh-squeezed lemon juice to your entire face and neck. Leave it on for 10 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. After this, rub cucumber slices on your skin to soften and moisturize it. Do this daily or every other day. Another option is squeeze the juice of one-half lemon and mix one to two tablespoons of raw honey in it. Apply it on your face, leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse it off. To exfoliate your skin, mix two teaspoons each of lemon juice and sugar. Apply the mixture on your face, neck and hands. Scrub in a circular motion and leave it on for 10 minutes. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Follow this remedy once a week to enjoy glowing skin. Mix one tablespoon of turmeric powder with enough pineapple juice to make a paste. Apply the paste to your face and neck. Leave it on until the paste dries completely. Then wash it off with lukewarm water. Follow this remedy two or three times a week to reduce the appearance of spots on skin.

All About Alopecia Areata

Alopecia areata is when hair starts falling out due to the immune system attacking the hair follicles. The hair fall due to alopecia areata occurs very suddenly on both the scalp as well as other parts of the body. Alopecia does not usually result in complete baldness nor does it always prevent hair from growing back. However, the exact amount of hair loss and the amount of hair that grows back varies from person to person. Alopecia areata cannot be cured either. However, treatments are available which prevent hair from falling out as well as those which stimulate hair growth. Here is everything you need to know about alopecia areata:

Causes: Alopecia areata is a type of an autoimmune disease. This is the sole cause of alopecia areata. An autoimmune disease is when your immune system targets cells in your own body instead of invading pathogens. In this case, the immune system attacks hair follicles which causes them to fall out.

Symptoms: The only symptom for alopecia areata is extensive hair loss. It happens very suddenly and unexpectedly. However, the extent of the hair loss and hair growth does vary greatly from person to person as mentioned earlier. However, sometimes doctors have to do a lot more tests to diagnose alopecia areata.

Diagnosis: Usually, just looking at hair is enough to diagnose alopecia areata. However, a doctor sometimes performs more tests to make sure the diagnosis is correct.

  1. Scalp biopsy: A scalp biopsy is when a small part of the scalp is removed so that it can be taken to the lab and analyzed. Once it has been analyzed, it can be confirmed that you have alopecia areata.
  2. Blood test: Depending on which type of disorder your doctor suspects you have, he or she will analyze the blood for that disorder and once that disorder is ruled out, he will confirm that you have alopecia areata.

Treatment

  1. Medications: Medications such as corticosteroid creams can be given so that hair growth can be stimulated.
  2. Radiation therapy: There is a radiation therapy which uses a combination of ultraviolet light and oral medication to promote hair growth.
  3. Other methods: Acupuncture, vitamins, and herbal supplements are some other ways of promoting hair growth and treating alopecia areata.

I am losing my hair quickly and have tried all shampoos but no effect yet so what can I do else.

MBBS, MD - Dermatology, F.C.P.S.(Dermatology, Venereology & Leprosy), Diploma in Venerology & Dermatology (DVD), DNB (Dermatology)

Shampoos are not meant to reduce hair fall; at best they can help reduce the roughness of hairs by using mild ingradients. For males most common cause of hair fall is nutritional deficiency and male pattern thinning. Since you have not mentioned your age; first focus on removable causes eg; deficency; such hair fall can be reduced or brought under control by improving your diet. Try taking balanced and on time meals. Include sprouts, fruits, leafy vegetable and some dryfruits regularly in your diet. Wash with mild shampoo to avoid damage to already weak hair shaft. If hair fall persists after these measures consult a qualified dermatologist. In the meantime use a mild shampoo and avoid conditioner if your hairs are short length.

Hello! You could be still having the fungal infection. Wear loose cotton clothes. Keep the body parts dry. Change underclothes regularly. Changing quickly out of wet, sweaty clothes can reduce the chances of fungal skin infections. Do not share clothes, towels etc. Apply clotrimazole cream twice a day on itchy areas for 6 weeks. If no satisfactory improvement, please see a nearby dermatologist for further assessment.

Q. Just what is an allergy? How do they occur? I have been able to eat oysters all my life, but now I get an itchy rash if I even touch one. How can this happen?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
An allergy is a reaction by your immune system to something that does not bother most other people. Normally, your immune system fights germs. It is your body's defense system. In most allergic reactions, however, it is responding to a false alarm. Genes and the environment probably both play a role.
