My 3 year son still not started talking. He is talking but in his own language not in ours. His hearing seems alright. What may be the reason and also the solution.

Oh it's quite late -- rule out tongue tie and go to speech therapist --> learning is a harlequin task now.

It is very important to teach your child that nobody should be touching his/her private parts except the doctor or nurse for health-ups.

Naya bacha aur bache birth ke baad ka weight kitna hona thik he. Kaam hoga to kya karna chahiye aur zada huaa toh kaisa weight control karna chahiye. please bataye

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Normally weight ranges from 2.5 to 3.5-4 Kg. Less than 2.5 Kg is low birth weight. If no associated prematurity is there breastfeeding alone will hlep gain weight.

Start with single item to accustom and gradually to other items changing to his taste by passage of time. Grinded almond may be added in milk etc after some time so honey.

What should I give as a food to my 8 month old son? And what shall I use in his body for this summer. He can't tolerate this summer. He likes to leave in cool temperature.

M.Ch - Paediatric Surgery, MNAMS (Membership of the National Academy) (General Surgery) , DNB (General Surgery), MBBS
Pediatrician, Pune
I saw your query regarding feeds to a baby 8 month old, first of all at 8 months old age, he's just trying to accommodate with a new environment as thermostatic centres in the brain are yet to develop so while feeding them you must concentrate on more and more liquid constitution of feeds than solid. Also try to maintain their hydration to avoid fluid deficit because of overheating. Expecting at this age you must have started weaning already, consider calorie requirement as per age along with hydration of the baby.

My son has suffer from a fever from 18th July to till now. My son is 4 year old. His body temperature is between 100-103 celsius. But we consult with our family Dr. On 19th July morning. He has given some medicine 1. P250; 2. Chloroquine phosphate suspension 3.vomikind.but not improve till now, what shall I do now at first ? Dear Dr.

FIAP(NEONATE), MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Ahmedabad
Chloroquine is specific for malaria so unless yoyears child is suffering from malaria it will not help. Your child might be having a simple viral infection which usually responds to paracetamol that you are giving to your child. However it is difficult to say for sure without seeing the patient. So if your son does not respond or develops new symptoms or has persistent vomitting and not taking orally well I suggest to consult a paediatrician. Warm regards

General Physician,
Atopy is long lasting condition and keep on coming at interval. Permanent cure is difficult Treatment includes avoiding soap and other irritants. Certain creams or ointments also may provide relief from the itching. A dermatologist will create a treatment plan tailored to the patient’s needs. Medicine and other therapies will be prescribed as needed to: Control itching. Reduce skin inflammation (redness and swelling). Clear infection. Loosen and remove scaly lesions. Reduce new lesions from forming.

Why Your Baby is Missing Sound Sleep?

MBBS, MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Varanasi
Why Your Baby is Missing Sound Sleep?

When you hold your new born in your arms for the first time, you will count him or her as the greatest blessing of your life. This is also the time when you are burdened with the responsibilities of another human. The sleep patterns in new-borns are erratic and you will never see them follow any pattern as such. They sleep off just about any time of the day and you will not see any pattern until about your angel is about 6 to 7 weeks old. After that age, they get quite adaptable and you will be able to get him or her adapted to certain patterns. This will make things very easy for you and your partner.

So why won’t your baby sleep?

1. Your baby is too excited to fall asleep

Babies are a powerhouse of energy. Activities like tossing him in the air or giving him an exciting bath full of fun and frolic will probably do the opposite of winding him down. It will make him more excited and he will not want to go to bed thinking he would miss out on the other fun activities that are in store for him.

Solution: Replace the fun tickles with other activities like comforting massages or story time and lullabies. Dim the lights, cosy up the room. Make it a routine and you will find your baby easing into a deep slumber in no time.

2. Your baby is too sensitive to the external or internal environment

Every baby is not a sound sleeper. Some babies may jolt awake with just a simple nod, others may dose off amidst noise and screams as well. If your baby is of the first kind, then you may face a bunch of troubles to keep your baby calm and cosy. You may bother your baby’s sleep if your phone starts to ring around her or by the constant honking of cars outside.

Solution: Keep her surroundings as warm and comfortable as possible. Keep her in a room that is away from the bustling noise of the cars, if possible or sound proof her room. Start by dimming the lights and getting her comfortable clothes that will keep her free when she is sleeping. Keep her sheets and pillows clean and ensure they do not remain wet.

3. Your baby snacks in the middle of the night

As it was mentioned before, babies have erratic schedules. They can get hungry or cranky just about any time of the day. Mid-night snacking is probably numero uno reason as to why your baby will not fall asleep at night. If you feed your baby to sleep every time, he or she might associate it with nursing.

Solution: It is okay to train your baby to comfort itself in the middle of the night. Whenever it may think it is hungry, he or she will cry and expect you to nurse him to sleep. Put him in the nursery when he is relatively sleepy to allow him to fall asleep all by himself. You may stand by till he does, but do not swaddle him. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Pediatrician.

Hello Sir/mam My son is 9 months old. He has cold and cough. From back some days he caught by cold and cough many times. What should I do? Will it cure without medicines? One more question is that, is it necessary to give multivitamin or vitamin drops to the child. Which and when. Thanks.

Except vitamin d. There is no need of any vitamin supplements in routine unless your doctor finds a deficiency of any1. Repeated cough cold could be a sign of allergy for which you shall undergo a detail check and it would not recover on it's own. So better to get behind it. Prevention - vaccinate against seasonal flu once the child is beyond 6 months age. Regards.

Hi I have a son of 1 year 6 month age. His tlc goes high in every 1month gap by which his fever goes high. Please suggest.

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Ranchi
Recurrent fever with high leucocyte counts at interval of every one month may be due to frequent infection. In this age 6-8 infections in a year is common as the immune system is not fully developed. But if infection is severe enough to cause hospital admission or prolong illness proper evaluation should be done. I would be better able to answer if history is provided in detail. Regards.

My daughter has diaper rashes and mouth ulcer also please help me she's only 6 month old.

BHMS, Certified in Aesthetic Skin Treatments, Certified in Applied Behaviour Analysis
Homeopath, Mumbai
Hello, At the first sign of a diaper rash, try the following steps: Keep the skin dry, and make sure the skin is not in contact with urine and stool. Change the diaper every time it is wet. Do not use "baby wipes" that have alcohol Keep the diapers off as much as possible Give more fluids to make the urine less concentrated. Do not use baby powder while a rash is present. Apply plain petroleum jelly or Vaseline on the rash when using the diaper. Please go to your nearby doctor for physical examination if you see any of the following A rash in the diaper area looks like a rash on other parts of the body. Signs of infection develop. Symptoms become more severe or frequent. For mouth ulcers give homeopathic medicine Borax 30 4pills 4 times a day. Your feedback matters for further follow up. Take care.

I have a 8 month old female baby. She is having fever, running nose, nose block, Coughing since 4 days now. We have given medicines as prescribed by a doctor in our location. However, after giving medicines her temperature keeps on fluctuating, cold and cough remains the same. We don't know what to do now.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), F.I.A.M.S. (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician, Muzaffarnagar
Probably your baby is suffering from viral fever and must be getting medicine containing paracetamol used for fever, due to which temp is fluctuating. If there is no relief after 4 days of treatment, consult pediatrician else you may wait for another 2 days if baby is taking normal feed and active.

It is nice that you r aware of importance of breast feeding. Take care that baby is sucking well while on breast and it is not only nipple in mouth but areola, a blackish area around nipple, is in mouth. It is usual reason, look for it. Continue exclusive breastfeeding. If you have mentioned your criteria for assessing baby's hunger n his birth n present wt, it had been better to advise further. If you feel so, you may consult privately with this link through Lybrate.

My daughter is 5 years old. She is frequent suffering from cold and cough and tonsillitis whether there is weather change or taking cold drinks and ice creams. After taking antibiotics such as clavam bid syrup or azithral xl with ambrodil s syrup and levocetirizine tablets she recovers. But it is frequent. Pl advice for permanent cure of it. Is taking antibiotics or medicines frequently is safe?

MBBS, MD
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
It's true that some children are more prone to cough and cold and it's allergy what we call as perineal rhinitis but it is not infectious. In most of cases it goes off by 10 years age. Please donor use antibiotic commonly as it have no role in treatment.

3 Common Skin Problems in Teenagers

MBBS

3 Common Skin Problems in Teenagers

Problems with the skin during the teenage years are very common. Although skin issues can be really stressful, the right skin care treatment can help in controlling the problems you may face during this time. Here are some of the skin issues that you may face at this stage of life and ways to prevent them:

Oily Skin: Oily skin is a very common occurrence during teenage years. To a certain extent, oily skin may be due to genetics but for some, it may be due to hormonal changes that cause excess oil to be produced on the skin surface. In order to not inflame the skin further, individuals with oily skin shouldn't overly scrub their skin as well as not use harsh cleansers to clean the face. More importantly, when you do use a cleanser on your face, you should only do so two times a day. If you go overboard, it would only do more harm than good.

Acne: Whether it is blackheads, whiteheads or spots filled with pus, acne affects about 80% of teenagers at some point in their lives. Teenagers are more prone to this problem because the hormone levels during this time are especially high, resulting in an increase in the magnitude of sebaceous glands and the oil that is produced. When too much oil is produced, this, along with dead skin cells block, the follicles, giving rise to acne. There are certain ways in which you can prevent it from occurring, such as always having a bath after any strenuous activity, not picking or touching the problem areas and washing acne-prone spots only two times a day.

Excessive Sweating: Excessive sweating is another major cause of concern for teenagers. The problem can be due to two different conditions - stress or hyperhidrosis (a condition wherein you sweat excessively on a daily basis). Wearing clothes made from cotton, using antiperspirants as well as avoiding drinks and foods that may cause episodes of excessive sweating are some of the ways in which you can keep the problem in control.
