My mother suffers from arthritis. Main joint affected is knee. She takes lot of medicines daily but still suffers lot of pain daily. Please tell what to do. Doctors say there is no cure. I do not know why. It will be helpful if you tell.(1) Please tell a proper diet plan to follow and things to avoid. And please tell every thing she can eat so that she does not feel bore with same food daily.(2) Please also tell how can diet help.(3) She also goes for physiotherapy who claims will cure her disease.(4) What more can be done other than a good diet, please tell.(5) Once doctor gave her a injection in her knee to take out liquid from knee. Please tell what is that for.(6) PLEASE HELP.

A person suffering from arthritis needs to be graded as to what is the severity of arthritis. A standing x-ray will help determine the amount of deformity in the knee Physiotherapy does not cure the arthritis it only prevents from further worsening and to a very little extent in opening up the joint space. She would benefit from a hinged knee brace to help in reducing the pain ideally we do not take out any liquid from the knee unless the doctor is suspecting of any infection if the knee joint deformity is severe she will need a knee replacement.

I am 62 year old man since last 4 months I started getting pain just below my left feet just 2 inches behind my thumb diagnosed by doctor, says uric acid is the cause for all complications now regularly taking medicine. Doctor adviced not to take. Highly proteinous food & not to take whiskey. If I walk more then slight pain start. I take hot water compression then rub with iodex then crept bandage. Please advice.

A high uric acid level can be caused when your body either produces too much uric acid or your kidneys don't eliminate uric acid rapidly enough. A high uric acid level may cause increasingly frequent attacks of gout, or it may never cause problems. A high uric acid level may also cause some people to develop kidney stones or kidney failure. Avoid protein diets, avoid more milk products. bad habits , fast food/fat/oily,salty foods. Coffee, smoking, alcohol intake. Non-veg., take whole grain,oats,green veg.,plenty of water in day time, 1 glass of water at night before bed.Take tab. Zyloric 100 mg once a day.Take tab. Bencid 500 mg once a day. Tab. Ulracet sos or tab. Naprosyn 500 mg once a day or sos for pain in joints.

I have pain in my legs over 7 days ago what kind of medicine or excersice I have to do?

Numbness in leg & feet is due to pressure on the nerves. This could be due to lumbar spondylosis with nerve root compression. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Use no pillow under the head. Any way take paracetamol 250mg od & sos you will need other supportive medicines also. Do back (spine) exercises make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take you may have to use lumbosacral support for some time. Avoid painful act/activities. Take medicines as prescribed it may have to be further investigated. Do ask for detailed treatment plan. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Hello lybrate-user, please do the following things for 10 - 15 days and let me have your feed back. 1. Massage / rub your two middle fingers tightly (of hands and feet middle toes) of both the hands and both the feet about 1-2 minute each, twice-thrice a day. 2. Before going to bed - soak your legs for about 10 minutes in a bucket half or one-third filled with warm water mixed with some salt or fitkari (alum). After that wipe them with a towel and wrap in a dry towel or bedsheet for 10-15 minutes. 3. Massage your legs with lukewarm mustard or til oil. 4. Stop standing for too long at a time. 5. Stop taking sour and acidic food, cold drinks, cold and stale food. 6. If you have lower back also pain, stop bending forward or straining the back. If you still continue to have the pain after about 10 days of doing all these things,

Dear as per your ht and wt it is perfectly alright. Regarding your swelling of your face is it swelling or puffyness. Do you use too much of make up and go out under sun in that case you shoud use sungoggles orbefore going out apply sunscreen lotion.

Requires detailed examination and investigation. Preliminary investigations suggested: hb, tlc, dlc, esr, blood sugar fasting & pp, uric acid vit d urine r/e x-ray of the affected part. Anyway it may be tried sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back, knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Do not ignore it. Let it not become beginning of a bigger problem. Make sure that patient is not allergic to any of the medicines that he/she is going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, inform.

Hand exercise dear, you can do it, 1 Make a Fist Hand and finger exercises can help strengthen your hands and fingers, increase your range of motion, and give you pain relief. Stretch only until you feel tightness. You shouldn't feel pain. Start with this simple stretch: •Make a gentle fist, wrapping your thumb across your fingers. •Hold for 30 to 60 seconds. Release and spread your fingers wide. •Repeat with both hands at least four times. Finger Stretch Try this stretch to help with pain relief and to improve the range of motion in your hands: •Place your hand palm-down on a table or other flat surface. •Gently straighten your fingers as flat as you can against the surface without forcing your joints. •Hold for 30 to 60 seconds and then release. •Repeat at least four times with each hand. Claw Stretch This stretch helps improve the range of motion in your fingers. •Hold your hand out in front of you, palm facing you. •Bend your fingertips down to touch the base of each finger joint. Your hand should look a little like a claw. •Hold for 30 to 60 seconds and release. Repeat at least four times on each hand. Grip Strengthener This exercise can make it easier to open door knobs and hold things without dropping them. •Hold a soft ball in your palm and squeeze it as hard as you can. •Hold for a few seconds and release. •Repeat 10 to 15 times on each hand. Do you full bad rest you can use heating paid either take hot water then a towle deep in hot water then round on your knee it is very use fully in that problem some days remove pain you can also do exercise also good movement your knee you can also physiotherapy some days then you feeling more better a physiotherapist give you WEX+US+TENS+exercise=feel batter but all treatment one month.

You can take vitamin d3 60k units weekly for 8-12 weeks, take calcium (ostocalcium) daily. After consulting an orthopaedic surgeon he can prescribe once yearly injection or weekly tablet to be taken for long time for strengthening bones. She should do walking for 20-30 minutes if there is no contraindication.

Hello Mr. Lybrate-user, gouty arthritis usually presents with sudden onset of joint pains, usually a single joint and most commonly the the joint of the great toe. This pain is usually severe accompanied by swelling, redness, restricted movement at the affected joint. It usually comes in acute episodic attacks. Sometimes you can also have associated abdominal pains. To differentiate between this and the other conditions you are talking about, you have to understand that the other conditions you mentioned are generalised conditions affecting the entire skeletal system. So they usually cause pains in multiple joints and also a generalised bank pain. Because the cause is also constant, they tend to cause a continuous pain or activity related pain unlike the pain caused by an episode of gouty arthritis. Hope this helps.

Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily.

First of all check your posture when you are lifting any material like heavy bucket . And try to lift the heavy bucket without bending your back . you may lift the bucket after bending your knees only. This will definitely help you. * Gentle massage with lukewarm mustard oil of your waist area will also give you relief. * Surya Namaskar is only exercise which you need to do. * In diet vegetable protein of cereal , B complex supplements and half teaspoon of haldi in a cup of milk for seven days will give you enough relief.

Identify the mid point between the ankle bone and tendons and give pressure with a blunt edge on either side of your foot for 2 minutes. Also give pressure in the web between 2nd and 3rd finger from your toe for 2 minutes. Finally give a good massage for both feet in hot water. Identify the dipping portion on the back of your knee folding. Press this dip with both middle fingers and hold your knee with your thumbs for support. Please swing 20 times morning and evenings.
