I'm 50 years old. And i'm having a severe pain in my shoulders. The pain starts from the neck, and comes to the shoulders. Whenever the pain comes, the area gets swelled up. What should I do? Is it related to physiotherapy or should be consulted to neurologist? what should be done to this pain?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You will have to tell me since when have you been experiencing neck pain, the radiation of pain is it to shoulders or goes in your hands also? is there any weakness, numbness, paresthesias etc also associated with it? swelling can be due to multiple reasons, but if your swelling is in both shoulders then it can be related to your physiotherapy, my advice will be to stop your physical therapy till swelling subsides, take anti inflammatory medications initially, do ice packs at home, take adequate calcium and vitamin d as per your requirement and let me know in 2-3 weeks time how you are feeling? do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Sometimes I have pain in half portion of my head at that time I have to grab painkiller Some Dr. Says that it is a symptoms of migraine effect stay away from hot weather.what to do

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Few things related to headache so that we can plan the treatment accordingly - if pain is associated with blurred or decreased vision than check your eye sight for refractive error - if the pain is pulsatile in nature and with a throbbing pain usually with an aura than we have to rule out migrane as the cause - if the pain is associated with neck problems than we have to rule out cervical spondylosis as the cause - if the pain is associated with either low or high bp or due to hyperacidity than we have to treat the cause after examination - if the pain is associated with cold and fever than we have to rule out sinusitis as the cause.

In normal action , nerve impulses travel through neurons with myelin sheath but what happens in reflex action where spinal cord is involved which has unmyelinated neurons ?

MPTh/MPT
Physiotherapist,
There will be termination of axons and dendrites which get difficult to pass information to myelin sheath in case of unmyelinated neurons.

I have shooting pains in my leg. Along with numbness and a sensation of needles pricking. What should I do?
It may be due to weakness of muscles or nerves causing difficulty in blood flow to your legs. Or it may be due to slip disc of back at lumbar region resulting in sciatic nerve compression causing radiating pain & numbness from lower back till legs. You should go for physiotherapy treatment for it to reduce pain & numbness and to improve muscle power of back & legs. You can visit me for physiotherapy treatment. Or you can consult me in private for free consultation.

Some conditions don't have any ayurveda treatments. Go for surgery followed by radiattion. If you waste time on traditional therapies tumor will keep on increasing. Kindly come on private chat with reports for detailed discussion.

glycerol is an old medicine for brain swelling...no longer in use. He will recover slowly on his own...if we continue intensive rehabilitation measures

I gave migraines once a week and my hands start to shivering when it happens it's creating a lot of problem in my daily rehearsals. Please help.

MBBS

Hi, there are many different types of headaches. Although not all headaches are the same, they all share at least one thing in common -- they cause pain. But many headaches also cause other unwanted symptoms. Migraines and other types of headaches, such as tension headache and sinus headache, are painful. Migraine symptoms include a pounding one sided headache, nausea, vomiting, and light sensitivity and are treated with anti nausea drugs and abortive or preventive medications. Hypertension is also one of the important causes. Migraine remedies include pain relievers like analgesics and antipyretics along with antimigraine tabs.

My mother suffered with brain stroke affects right leg + right hand + speech issue is also there. please suggest me what to do?

MD - Medicine, Diploma in Diabetology, MBBS
General Physician, Malda
Unfortunately effects of brain stroke doesn't resolve rapidly. It takes time. To speed up the recovery a proper rehabilitation routine must be followed. It involves regular physiotherapy, speech therapy and most importantly family and social support. Avoid massaging the involved side, it does more harm than good.
