You need to take medication to lower cholesterol. Prefer rosuvastatin (check liver functions if you are taking acohol regularly). Salt intake less than 2mg per day. Take your heart for a walk. Exercise is you need ecg, echo to check function of heart, continue anti hypertensive drugs.

Should one be always very happy and relaxed to prevent many diseases like heart diseases?
No one needs to react appropriately as per situation. during disease of self or others, happiness can help ward off bad times with positive frame of mind to find out answers,to act /react accordingly. if there is news of floods/ drought/ accidents/epidemics of diseases etc. one cannot be happy about them ,neither brood about pathetic conditions of roads, hospitals ,global warming but one can surely introspect to know the answers and to help each other. being happy for the sake of happiness is robotic and it is not worth hiding the tears. shedding few tears for others does help own emotional health.

Back pain may be due to strain, sprain, weather change etc. *Avoid bending forward while working on lap top or for any other work. *Don’t sit continuously working on laptop etc. Get up periodically and move around. *Restrict bike driving as far as possible. *Don’t carry laptop or any load on your shoulder. Carrying very light loads equally with both hands is better *Sit straight so that back bone gets proper support. A dining chair is better than a laid back sofa. *You can use mustard oil for massage which is good in winter season for relieving pain. Eucalyptus oil is also good *Soft bed will not give proper support to your back bone. Hard bed with thin mattress and thin pillow is better. *Get yourself tested whether you have spondylitis problem. Homoeopathy has a good treatment for this without adverse effects. Take Calc fluor 200--once daily in the morning and once in the evening and give feedback after 6 days.

Lots of seasonal fruits & vegetables ,both cooked and raw , low salt , no papads , chutney, sauces, pickles, tinned food etc where extra salt is added as a preservative , no oily food , very little oil in cooking by steaming (pressure cooker) , saute ,grilling & using tomato puree to make gravies & chaat masala to give taste & flavor ,coarse grains like wheat atta with husk , bajra , makki & soy atta added , rice can be consumed sometimes but no Biryaani or pulao . Take 1 katorie of all types of nuts like soaked & peeled almonds+cashews ,wallnuts , peanuts etc. One spoon of good fats per day , like desi ghee / butter to keep good cholesterol on a higher side. Remember No Oil is Zero Cholesterol as seen on your TV ad. Musturd oil is still best for Indian style cooking and use soy oil for frying as fuming temperature is low ,compared to musturd oil which is quite high ,it takes long time to come to frying point.Do not use non stick cook ware , some studies suggest that they generate some cancer generating toxic fumes

Hi. Heart attack in medical terms is myocardial infarction (mi). Which means a permanent damage to heart muscles. Heart muscles need oxygen rich blood to function. This is done by the blood vessels which supply the heart called coronary arteries. When these blood vessels get blocked it results in loss of blood supply to heart muscles. Resulting in heart attack. During an attack. Persons feels giddy, sweats, chest pain is severe which can be felt in that left shoulder, back, jaws etc, vomitting and fluctuating blood pressure (high or low). It can present differently too. But the above are common symptoms. Thank you.

A few changes could help protect you from this hidden condition: • Try to keep your consumption of saturated fats to a minimum. • Aim to replace saturated fats, with moderate amounts of ‘good’ fats also known as monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. • Grill, steam, boil and bake foods instead of frying and roasting. • Eat plenty of fibre-rich foods. • Enjoy healthy snacks such as fruit, nuts and seeds, olives etc. • Eat at least two portions of fish per week, one of which should be oily (Choose from salmon, mackerel, sardines, pilchards or herring). • Include foods enriched with plant stanols/sterols, which are clinically proven to lower ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol as part of a healthy diet and lifestyle. • Stay physically active. at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise on five or more days of the week. • Avoid smoking. • Try and manage your stress levels.  Foods to avoid  Limit saturated fats and oils, such as butter, palm oil, and coconut oil. Instead, use soft vegetable oils, such as olive or canola oil.  Avoid trans fats or partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. These oils go through a process that makes them solid. They're found in some hard margarines, snack crackers, cookies, and chips.  Limit fatty meats such as corned beef, , ribs, steak, ground meat, hot dogs, sausage, bacon, and processed meats . Also limit organ meats like liver and kidney. Replace with skinless chicken or turkey, lean beef, pork, lamb, and fish. Try some meatless main dishes, like beans, peas, pasta, or rice.  Limit meat, poultry, and fish to no more than two servings, or 140 g, a day. Remember that a serving is about the size of a deck of playing cards.  Limit egg yolks.  Limit milk products that contain more than 1% milk fat. This includes cream, most cheeses, and nondairy coffee creamers or whipped topping (which often contain coconut or palm oils). Instead try fat-free or low-fat milk (0% to 1% fat) and low-fat cheeses.  Limit snack crackers, muffins, quick breads, croissants, and cakes made with saturated or hydrogenated fat, whole eggs, or whole milk. Try low-fat baked goods, and use any spreads or toppings lightly.  Instead of using butter or margarine on bread, try dipping it in olive oil.  Avoid fast foods like hamburgers, fries, fried chicken, and tacos. They are high in both total fat and saturated fat. When you eat out, choose broiled sandwiches or chicken without skin, salads with low-fat dressing, and foods that aren't fried. Ask the server to leave off the cheese and high-fat dressings like mayonnaise.

I get chest pains and cough many times and I do smoke and I am not able to quit smoking. Please tell.
Dear Lybrate user, smoking is a choice and all choices are made by us. You can quit smoking only if you tell yourself that you can do it. Not when you accept in your mind that "you are not able to quit". You must have taken many challenges in your life - I am sure you don't want to be called a loser at this as well. You have detailed about having cough and chest pains- Its possible that you may develop infection like tuberculosis or later if you don't quit - the risk of lung cancer is also very high. Make the right choice- quit today.

Dear, Heart attack symptoms typically follow a classic pattern. This list includes several common signs and symptoms of heart attacks. The person does not need to have every symptoms told here to be having a heart attack, but if two or more of the symptoms are present then it is important to call emergency. Chest Pain The most common and regularly documented symptom of a heart attack is chest pain. The pain can feel like anything, but usually is dull or aching.Heart attack chest pain is usually very steady. It doesn’t typically increase or decrease with movement or palpation (touching or pushing on the chest). It likely will come on suddenly, without warning. Chest pressure Pressure or heaviness in the chest can be independent of chest pain, but often goes together. Pain in the arm, neck or jaw Shortness of Breathing Most often, pressure in the chest makes the person feel as if he or she is being suffocated.Heart attacks can also cause fluid in the lungs, which leads to severe shortness of breath. Sweating Heart attacks cause stress on the heart and it tells the brain, which leads to the “fight or flight” stress response. Nausea Like sweating, nausea is a very common response to stress. Fatigue The same decreases in blood flow that can lead to passing out or trouble breathing also cause fatigue. Syncope As a heart attack progresses, damaged heart muscle leads to a loss of blood pressure and decreased blood flow to the brain.

Cholesterol level should be measured at least once every five years in everyone over age 20. The screening test that is usually performed is a blood test called a lipid profile. Experts recommend that men ages 35 and older and women ages 45 and older be more frequently screened for lipid disorders. The lipoprotein profile includes: Total cholesetrol LDL (low-density lipoprotein CHOLESETROL also called "bad"CHOLESTETROL HDL (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, also called "good" cholesterol) TRIGLYCERIDES (fats carried in the BLOOD from the food we eat. Excess calories, alcohol, or sugar in the body are converted into TRIGLYCERIDES and stored in fat cells throughout the body. High triglycerides and cholesterol can cause atherosclerotic heart disease or narrowed coronary arteries in the heart can cause the symptoms of angina, when theheart muscle is not provided with enough oxygen to function. Decreased blood supply to the brain may be due to narrowed small arteries in the brain or because the larger carotidarteries in the neck may become blocked. This can result in a transient ischmic attack or stroke. Peripheral artery disease describes gradual narrowing of the arteries that supply the legs. During exercise , if the legs do not get enough blood supply, they can develop pain , called claudication . Other arteries in the body may also be affected by plaque buildup causing them to narrow, including the mesenteric arteries to the intestine and the renal arteries to the kidney. Change life style .do meditation, yoga, Go walk daily, do any one physically activity daily i.e.play any game., Avoid fast foods, oily foods, junk foods, alcohol, smoking, fatty foods, non-veg.,avoid stress, take plenty of water in day time. And 1 glass of water before bed at night. use flax oil, omega-3 fatty meal or cap., take .green veg., whole grain. GARLIC,. Cod liver oil. Take anti cholesterol medicines . Cap.
