I am 17 years old and I am facing constant headaches. Is it normal for me as I travel a lot in sun. Or is it a matter of cancers or a symptom of migraine?

I am 17 years old and I am facing constant headaches. Is it normal for me as I travel a lot in sun. Or is it a matter...
Frequent headaches which are pulsatile associated with nausea and vomiting, increased by going onto the sun and relieved on taking sleep and medications could be possibly migraine. Brain tumours can also present with headaches, but have much severe types with associated symptoms like fits, unconsciousness etc. It would however be prudent to visit a psychiatrist or neurologist to get your complaints of headache evaluated completely consult me online for any further queries or assistance.

you can go for a percutaneous baloon decompression which is done on day care basis or a surgery known as micro vascular decompression which is very major surgery but i think you should get your medications reorganised and try once more before going for surgery

If you have an enlarged pituitary gland, you may have a pituitary tumour which is a very serious condition. Surgery is the most reliable cure for it. However, one can never be sure without looking at the mri scan. Please visit a neurosurgeon for better advice.

I got TIA (stroke) two years ago. I am doing really good right now. But, I am deeply into the phobia, that stroke can return again. I am in fear always. How to overcome it. Please suggest measures.

I got TIA (stroke) two years ago. I am doing really good right now. But, I am deeply into the phobia, that stroke can...
Tia is a warning sign of stroke. So you have to worry but not that much. I understand about your phobia about getting again same problem but dear if you maintain yourself and take some precautions then chances are very less. Please make sure: 1. If you are overweight try to reduce. 2. Brisk walking daily for 30 minutes. 3. Cardiovascular exercises daily for endurance and strength and to make your heart fit. 4. Regular intake of excess water in your diet. 5. Avoid junk food, carbohydrates. 6. Take healthy diet that enrich you with proteins, vitamins. 7. If diabetic make sure sugar level should be maintained. 8. If hypertensive, make sure bp should not reach to too high or too low along with hr. 9. Avoid stressful life. 10. Meet some physio and learn daily exercises that will keep you fit and healthy along with some modification in your lifestyle. 11. Avoid fasting - eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at fixed timings. 12. Make yourself busy by fulfilling your hobby as it will give you freshness and your mind will be diverted from normal life. 13. Take min 7 hours of sleep. 14. Avoid taking caffeine, alcohol, phenylethylamine (found in chocolate and cheese), tyramine (found in nuts and fermented meats, cheeses, and soy), and aspartame (in many artificially sweetened foods) as sometimes these all exaggerate the condition. Instead use basil leaves tea or ginger tea boiled nicely in water without milk. Do not worry about getting tia / cva. If you keep yourself relax and avoid stress you will be healthy and then no disease no tia.

I'm get two times for seizures In the mid night. One is three years back. Consulting the doctor using 3 months medicines. And now recently is got another one. Mid night time. Same I'm consulted again he was told that continue using medicine for life long I am using Levi pill 500mg tablets. Every day night. In scanning reports a small rounded non enhancing lesion with peripheral hyper dense rim with few tiny calcification and central heterogeneous Isodense area of 8mm noted in the right frontal cortical region with minimal perilesional edema -s/o likely healing granuloma rest of all OK normal.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir, probably the non enhancing lesions may be the cause Of seizures. Most likely those lesions may be tuberculoma or neurocysticercosis. And you would require treatment for that also. Please consult and be in contact with neurologist for the same. Low chances of metastases also may be there but most likely it would be infections and will require treatment for that.

Im 20 and im suffering from hand shaking from few days im worried. I drink alcohol daily. Is it related to it.

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Im 20 and im suffering from hand shaking from few days im worried. I drink alcohol daily. Is it related to it.
Yes, it is related if your consumption is heavy. You must quit immediately. If you smoke too, the handshaking would become even more pronounced. It does not matter when you feel like drinking, as long as you need your drink. This could lead to increased tolerance levels so that over time you will need to drink more to get the same or greater effect. You need to identify why you need to drink, and go back into your childhood to find out other influences on your personality that makes you prone to addiction. Meet with an addiction counselor and work with them to sort out this drive. Your already display the classic tendency to first obsess about it and then compulsively feel driven to meet that need. The simplest thing to do is to do some other interesting activity during the evening times. Meet your oral need with some other non-intoxicating drink like soups, juices, and sodas with lime, etc. If you think that you will find it very difficult, then admit yourself to a hospital and go for de-addiction: which normally lasts for about two weeks. Then follow that up with addiction counseling from a professional for at least three years to completely get rid of the habit. If this is also not enough, then admit yourself into a de-addiction center and stay there for at least 6 months and after that attend counseling with a professional. There are medicines that help with the drinking just to ease the initial craving. Ultimately, it is your will power and the support that you receive from the medical fraternity and your close and dear ones. You must also learn to substitute and deal with the oral need, a rigid value system, the script issue, and of course look at all the genetic factors to plan a strategy not to get into what is called ‘cross addictions’ i.e. Another form of addiction that may appear alright but is in fact as bad as the primary addiction. The center or hospital and the counselor will advise and guide you on several measures and precautions you will need to take to stay with your resolve. Even after the rehabilitation you must attend AA meetings and continue this support for a long time. Your family will also need to attend some sessions and go for Al-anon meetings for their co-dependency issues. You cannot be treated in isolation because the family has gotten used to your drinking and have made some unhealthy adaptations to somehow cope. Make a serious plan with the family and whoever else’s support you can get and act on it fast. As a combination these two therapies (counseling and rehabilitation) will aid in dealing with the addiction. It will however take a long time to completely come off of the enslavement.

I was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Post operation and having a shunt added, I recovered. I drank alcohol, about a pint. And have been suffering with the uneasiness and lack of awareness, alertness, as it was before I got operated. Although the CT scan shows no damage, I want to get rid of this constant feeling of a hangover. Please help.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
You have to sop alcohol. Only strong will power, determination, attending AA meetings and diverting mind when tempted will help you stop alcohol Alcohol causes 7 types of cancer, including breast, mouth and bowel cancers. When you drink alcohol, cancer-causing chemicals are formed. Alcohol also affects hormone levels and makes cells even more likely to be damaged by smoking. The less alcohol you drink, the lower the risk of cancer. No type of alcohol is better or worse than another, it is the alcohol itself that leads to the damage, regardless of whether it is in wine, beer or spirits. And drinking and smoking together are even worse for you. Not everyone who drinks alcohol will develop cancer. But on the whole, scientists have found that some cancers are more common in people who drink more alcohol than others. Every year, alcohol causes 4% of cancers. Tips to cut down on alcohol. There are lots of simple ways to cut down on the amount of alcohol you drink. It can help to work out if there are particular times or situations when you tend to have a drink, whether that’s a bad day at work or a weekly pub quiz tradition, and plan what you’ll say and do differently next time. Have more alcohol-free days a week. For liver health it’s best to have at least 2 days off alcohol in a row each week. Try agreeing on certain days with your partner or a friend and help each other and stick to it. If you are planning to drink alcohol, decide on a limit in advance and make sure you don’t go over it. Swap every other alcoholic drink for a soft one – starting with your first drink. Try shandy instead of a pint of beer, or swap some wine for soda and have a spritzer. Don’t stock up on beer, wine or spirits at home. Finish one drink before pouring another, because topping up drinks makes it harder to keep track of how much you’ve had and when you planned to stop. Avoid buying drinks in rounds, that way you don’t have to keep pace with anyone. Tell a friend or partner that you’re cutting down on alcohol, they can support you – or even join you.

Hi doc, I am a medical student. I have minute tremors which mostly get aroused during conditions like handling an object, or when I get scared or when I don't eat. My thyroid pro. Done b4 6-8 months were normal. I have this prob since last 4-5 years. What to do?

LCPS, BAM&S
General Physician, Pune
CML is a rare condition and you are fighting it. The medications are perfect and you should be able to lead normal life soon. So continue your treatment with a positive mindset. You will be alright soon. The real cause of tremors is just nervousness coming out of the battle. You are a brave young man. Toss all these jittery thoughts into air by the flick of mind and pursue your education with a focus. You will be a great doctor one day. Don't pat any attention to tremors. They will vanish the moment you neglect them.

I'm epilepsy patient my Dr. said after delivery I vl allri8, is dis truth. Nd this disorder is dangours for me? Life ka khtra hai? Pls explain.

MBBS, MD, DM - Neurology
Neurologist, Chennai
If you have been diagnosed with epilepsy before your pregnancy itself, it is possible to control your epilepsy with proper medications so that you do not get any fits (which may pose danger to both of you). However there is a small possibility of your child developing few problems either due to your epilepsy or your medications. It will be monitored with regular scans and blood tests if needed by your obstetrician. Have a frank talk with your obstetrician and neurologist. Please do not stop your epilepsy medications without consulting your doctor.
