Myths and facts about acne

BHMS

Myths and facts about acne

Myth: Washing more helps get rid of acne.

Fact:
Facial acne is not caused by dirt. The common misbelief is that pores are blocked from the top down due to the dirt, in actual fact pores are blocked from the inside out. Instead of preventing acne, washing your face too much may irritate the pores and cause them to become clogged as well as dry this skin. Dry skin will cause the sebaceous glands to go into overdrive and produce too much sebum oil which will block your pores. The best thing to do is only wash twice a day.

Myth: Acne is caused by stress.

Fact:
It is true that stress may affect hormone levels and therefore cause acne. However, a good acne treatment system will easily overcome any effect stress may have on your acne. Some psychiatric medicines do list acne as a side effect, but stress in itself is unlikely to have a serious impact.

Myth: Sex and masturbation cause acne.

Fact:
This is an idea dating back to the 17th century which was put about to try and dissuade young people from having sex before marriage. There is no scientific evidence to support it. It is true that high levels of androgens (male sex hormones) can be related to severe cases of acne but hormone levels are not affected by masturbation and sex.

Myth: The sun helps clear up acne.

Fact:
It is true that 10 - 20 minutes a day of the sun could help people with acne, especially back acne or acne on other parts of the body. However, over exposure to the sun will lead to skin damage and irritate the skin. This irritation can actually result in more acne over the weeks that follow over exposure to the sun as the skin heals itself. As with over washing your skin, the sun will also dry out your skin which will result in an excess of sebum oil being produced and blocking your pores.

Myth: Your diet can cause acne

Fact:
Here more research is needed. In short acne is caused by hormone levels rather than what you eat. However, it is known that in some societies, in stark contrast to modern society, there is absolutely no acne. This raises the question of whether it is the indigenous people's diet which contributes to their clear skin or some other factor. It may be possible to prevent acne through dietary means in the future, but it will be very hard to achieve.

Myth: Pimples will go away faster if you pop them.

Fact:
Popping a pimple will make it temporarily less noticeable; however, it means that the zit will stay around for longer. By popping a pimple you are forcing bacteria from the zit further into the skin which ultimately makes it even more inflamed. Furthermore, popping a pimple can cause acne scars to form which could last for months or worse still scars in the form of dents and pits which can last forever.

I have power problem in my eyes? How can I increase my eye power? Give me some solution Sir. Please reply fast sir.

I have power problem in my eyes? How can I increase my eye power? Give me some solution Sir. Please reply fast sir.
Hello. Operations done to remove the refractive error (power) of the eyes are known as refractive surgery. There are certain basic criteria that most patients need to fulfill before they can safely undergo refractive surgery. To enumerate, they are: (1) stability of refraction: the power of the eyes should have become stable for a period of 1.5 years minimum without any change. (2) curvature of the cornea should be tested by a technique which is known as topography. (3) thickness of the cornea should be measured by a test known as pachymetry. The minimum thickness required is 550 microns. (4) dilated retina evaluation: this is one of the most important tests that should be performed by a trained retina specialist. This test helps in detection of any offensive lesion on the central or peripheral retina. In case of any retinal abnormality, these should be treated before undergoing the surgery for number reduction. (5) there should be no pre-existent corneal abnormality. (example: corneal scar, opacity, defect, etc.) another important suggestion is that whenever you go for the assessment (the above mentioned tests), you should discontinue the use of contact lenses at least 4 weeks prior to the assessment. The reason for this being that use of contact lens temporarily alters the contour of the cornea. It takes around 3-4 weeks for the restoration of the original corneal contour after removal of the contact lens. Another important point is that you, as a patient, should be compliant to put post operative medication in your eyes for at least 2 months. There is bound to be some discomfort, watering, foreign body sensation, pain after the surgery in most cases-you should be ready to tolerate that. A leave from work for 7-10 days after the surgery should be generally sufficient. Last but not the least, you should set realistic expectations from this surgery. Though extremely rare, there is a remote possibility that the surgery may need to be repeated. Also, the need for subsequent treatment for the eye may be required. Thus, you should be compliant enough to trust and follow your eye specialist. Let me enumerate the diet necessary for healthy eyes. (1) green leafy vegetables including spinach, sprouts, cabbage, beetroot. (2) fruits-blue-berries, black-berries, strawberries, raspberries, kiwi fruit, grapes, pineapple, pomegranate, grapes, guava. (3) dry-fruits: almonds, walnuts, apricots, dates. (4) cereals: oats, barley, millets. (5) drink a cup of green tea daily. (6) drink a glass of milk daily. Hope my suggestions help you, take care, regards.

Heavy menstrual bleeding before the onset of menopause occasionally stops without drugs or surgery in the lead up to the menopause, known as the peri-menopause, many women experience changes to their normal menstrual cycle, including unusually heavy bleeding. This symptom is usually accompanied by irregular periods. A woman may go for several months without a period and then experience particularly heavy bleeding, or may find her periods coming thick and fast. Aside from the obvious inconvenience of this, heavy bleeding may also lead to further health problems, such as anaemia. This is when there is not a high enough level of iron in the body. This can lead to extreme exhaustion and weakness. While many women suffer from heavy periods in the lead up to their menopause, it is important to remember that prolonged bleeding should be checked by your doctor. Bleeding for longer than 1 week per month is not healthy.

To prevent hair fall, you can follow some simple steps as listed below: 1. Use mild shampoo to wash hair (you can make your own shampoo using reetha and shikakai at home). 2. Stop using conditioners. Use natural conditioners like egg, yogurt and lemon. 3. Massage your scalp with a mix of oils like olive, coconut, sesame, castor oil at night. 4. Apply raw amla juice on hair thrice a week. 5. Rub your scalp with the juice of white onion. 6. Use a paste of bhringraj on hair. 7. You can use some good hair packs like - fenugreek and yogurt, egg and green tea. 8. You can rinse your hair with organic apple cider vinegar after washing your hair to maintain pH balance of your hair. 9. Hair health depends on the amount of protein in your diet. Foods like chicken, eggs, fish, nuts, dry fruits gives you the required nutrients to keep your skin and hair healthy. So consume plenty of them. Eat things rich in vitamin C like amla and oranges.

Go for fasting once a week. You can go for absolute fasting or rely on a liquid diet to digest ama (toxin). Fasting should be followed by hot fomentation or by taking a bath with lukewarm water or steam bath. After fasting and fomentation, mix powdered long pepper, black pepper and dried ginger in equal quantities and take 1 teaspoon of this powdered mix with lukewarm water twice a day. This will help you restore your digestive fire. Take one tablespoon of castor oil before going to bed, once or twice a week. It helps in cleansing ama (toxin) build up and balancing vata. Mix equal quantities of powdered fenugreek seeds, turmeric and ginger powder. Take one teaspoon daily in the morning and evening. For dry fomentation of the affected joints, take a cloth and fold it into four, fill it with hot and sand make a potli (bag) out of it. Use this bundle for the fomentation of different joints. This is very helpful in reducing pain and swelling.

This problem is my teeth from last few days I feel some pain at bottom of my teeth. Should I go to doctor?
The type of treatment you have for toothache /sensitivity/swelling will depend on the cause of the pain, so your dentist will examine your mouth and may carry out an X-ray to try to identify the problem. •If your toothache / sensitivity/swelling is caused by tooth decay, your dentist will remove the decayed area and replace it with a filling. •If your toothache / sensitivity/swelling is caused by a loose or broken filling, the filling will be taken out, any decay will be removed and a new filling put in place. •If the pulp inside your tooth is infected, you may need root canal treatment. This procedure involves removing the infected pulp and then inserting a special type of filling to seal the tooth and prevent re-infection. •If your toothache / sensitivity/swelling can't be treated using these methods, or if your tooth is impacted (wedged between another tooth and your jaw), it may need to be removed.

It's common. While sometimes it can be a sign of a problem, other times it's just part of life. Erections happen as a result of many physical processes. Body parts have to move, expand and contract. Nerves have to respond to stimuli, and blood has to flow in the right directions at the right pressure. If any part of your body is working differently, the result may be no erections at all; sometimes it might be that you get an erection but then lose it before you're finished with it. Stress, distractions, It also includes your sense of yourself, your sexual identity  and gender identity, and how you're feeling about it in the moment. Finally, interpersonal or relationship issues that you may have and may not be talking about can play out in your sex life in the form of losing erections, often at particularly significant moments.
