How to remove spots from teeth and get white and shine teeth. Having habit of pan masala.

Dentist, Kolar
Get scalling n polishing done by dentist. If you r not happy with your teeth shade later, you can get bleaching done by dentist which'll lighten your teeth by 2-3 shades. Alternatively you can use a teeth whitening toothpaste such as snowdent after scalling. Whitening gels used daily along with customized dental trays provided by dentist r also available in the market. Avoid heavily coloured foods, tea n coffee, cool drinks, smoking n tobacco products as they stain teeth.

Sir, I am suffering from the pain of my teeth since last one week. Many type of medicine I have already used but I have no relief from the pain please give good advise.

MDS - Orthodontics
Dear Don not self medicate. Its very harmful. You never know why you have pain. Visit your dentist and see why you have pain. Medication will only help you avoid pain but not the cause of your pain.

In my teeth is affecting by a cavity and also mouth ulcers also How I am cure this problem?

Dentist, Alappuzha
The cavity needs to be filled using a dental restorative material like composite or glass ionomer cement. You can visit your nearby dentist to get it restored. If it has pain then your tooth will require a root canal treatment. Use warm saline to swish your mouth every hour. The mouth ulcer will subside in a few days. If pain is present then use a local anesthetic gel on the affected area.

My cousin was severely suffering from the mouth wounds and he was getting that repeatedly. So please advice some medicine to completely get rid of it.

Dentist, Howrah
It might be because of poor oral hygiene or deficiency of Vitamin B. Better consult to local dentist (Better MDS-Oral Medicine). Till then you can use salted hot water mouth rinses.

Whichever toothpaste you use. God has given you this shade of teeth n no one paste can change the color. The only solution is what you need is to get a veneering done for front teeth if you are so really desperate to get white teeth thanks.

Hi am 26 years male. I have a problem of bad breath from my mouth. Please advise me what to do.

Dentist, Ujjain
Sometimes long term medications are also responsible for bad breath. And the other reason for this condition is due to accumulation of plaque and debris which is not easiely removed with your daily brushing, so consult nearest dentist for scaling.

Dental Implants or Dentures - What is Best Suitable for You?

Dentist, Faridabad
Dental Implants or Dentures - What is Best Suitable for You?

Tooth loss occurs due to various reasons decay and infection, fracture, accidents, gum disease, to name a few. Tooth loss has a negative impact on various aspects facial appearance, chewing efficiency, and overall nutrition. The attempts to restore the lost tooth have led to various advancements from removable dentures to cast partial dentures to fixed dentures to implants.

Listed below are features (covering advantages and disadvantages) of both dentures (fixed and removable) and implants. While dentures can be complete or partial, implants are more often partial, of course can be used to replace multiple teeth. A detailed discussion with your dentist along with oral and radiographic examination will help in making a decision.

Removable Dentures:

  1. Replaces tooth but more for cosmetic reasons than function.

  2. Poor chewing efficiency.

  3. Useful when multiple teeth are to be replaced, especially when no adjacent teeth are available for support.

  4. If good bone support is not available, retention is an issue.

  5. Not very healthy for the underlying jaw bone and adjacent gums.

  6. Requires daily and routine maintenance.

Fixed Denture(s):

Also called as bridges, as the artificial replaced tooth is a bridge between two natural teeth.

  1. Requires removal of sound tooth structure as abutment (support). This is the major disadvantage with fixed dentures, which promoted further work from the dentists, ending up with discovery of implants.

  2. Promotes tooth decay in the adjacent teeth.

  3. Good support, so retention is not an issue.

  4. Not as harmful to the underlying jaw bone as removable denture.

  5. Requires maintenance but not like the removable denture.

  6. Expensive compared to removable dentures.

  7. Replacing a bridge also means the adjacent healthy teeth are affected.

  1. Very good replacement alternative, replaces not just the crown structure but also the root structure.

  2. An excellent option when the jaw bones and gums are extremely in good condition.

  3. Almost natural restoration of both chewing efficiency and facial appearance, the person can eat almost anything.

  4. Not as harmful on the gums like dentures.

  5. Does not cause bone loss like dentures.

  6. Can be used to replace single or multiple teeth, where multiple implants are placed and a bridge is placed over them.

  7. The titanium screws that are used fuse with the jaw bone over a period of time.

  8. The titanium is also biocompatible, thereby reducing chances of allergy.

  9. Implants are expensive, and many insurance companies may not cover them.

  10. If properly fabricated and maintained well, then it can last for decades.

The decision to go for a denture or for an implant should be decided based on a detailed evaluation of overall health and if required radiographic examination. Both dentures and implants have advantages and disadvantages, and the dentist will help make the right choice. If you wish to discuss about any specific dental problem, you can consult a specilized dentist and ask a free question.

Hi. I got the retainers today but if I worn both. I couldn't able to talk properly. What to do. Doctor told. If like this I can wear top of the retainer. Is it okay? Mine is night shift. I am having confusion to which time I should wear this. I think sleeping time I should not wear. Kindly help.

BDS, FICOI, Fellow of Academy of General Education (FAGE)
Dentist, Bangalore
If you stop wearing retainers then your treatment will relapse, kindly wear retainers on time, initially you will feel discomfort but as time goes it will adapt to you and you will be fine, my advise to you is you need to have patience since retainers takes time to adapt, initially you feel little discomfort and irritation. But you have to wear it.

How to get rid of tooth pain immediately in home. So that I can at least sleep in night.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Fellow of Academy of General Education (FAGE), BDS
Dentist, Patna
Plz take a pain killer and then consult a dentist. Pain killer is only going to give you temporary relief. Dentist will find out the cause of the pain and help you to get rid of it. As a temporary measure, you can apply clove oil.
