Dear lybrate-user. I can understand. You are 16 and it is natural at this age period that you have sexual attraction towards opposite sex. This happens due to hormonal activities. There are no short cuts to divert your attention towards studies. You have to force a new studying habit. For this you have to make a time table. Include physical exercise for one hour, entertainment for one hour, outdoor games for one hour and misc for one hour. At least three hours for studies. Make such a time table and force yourself to stick to it. Within a week, this will become a habit. Take care.

How to detoxify lungs? When it gets effected by smoking. Please give some suggestion to detoxify my lung.

Perhaps it means that you are already afraid that you have damaged your lungs from years of smoking. The tobacco tar, which is the carcinogenic substance in tobacco smoke, lines your lungs with patches that make that portion dysfunctional. Your oxygen carrying capacity is jeopardized, and breathing is impinged. The carbon monoxide in cigarette smoke affects the oxygen carrying capacity of the hemoglobin or red blood cells to make you gasp for breath. But don’t be discouraged because it is not too late even now to reverse all the ill-effects of smoking. I don’t know what other organs could be damaged but do go for a thorough medical check up to assess the effects of your abuse. Because smoking uses the respiratory system it gives you a faster kick. The lining of your throat is also affected and damaged over the years that you begin to experience the smokers’ cough. Obviously this tobacco tar is the cancer causing agent and that is horrible way to end your life. There are a host of other dangerous substances in tobacco smoke (in fact 7000 of them) that it is difficult to put the whole list here, and it is not enough to focus on only the effects to lungs. Because cigarette smoke is ingested through the respiratory system, it is the lungs which are directly affected. So you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. Regarding improving your lungs, do a lot of aerobic exercise breathing through your nostrils only. Then there are a lot of deep breathing exercises in Yoga which you can learn too. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health. Deep breathing uses the 80% of the lungs which are not normally used in normal breathing and even when exerting yourself. You need to now bring improvement to your lungs by doing a lot of aerobic exercise while breathing through your nostrils only. Deep breathing cleanses your system and lungs and restores it to good health.

I have severe anxiety. I do sleep about 7.5 hours. But it doesn't seem to be enough. However I can't prolong my sleeping hours. What should I do to get a good sleep.

I don’t know if you are fully aware: you have mentioned that you are suffering from anxiety, which in itself can disturb your sleep. Instead of worrying too much about causes, why don’t you implement some of my suggestions, because they work effectively. The lack of sleep, i.e. Sleep for less than 6 hours per night, is directly linked to about 86 diseases! So let us first focus on that. In your case particularly, do not sleep during the day; don’t even lie down. Go for regular exercise (breathing through your nostrils only) at a fixed time (at about 6 am) every day, whether you sleep or not. You must develop this habit of sleeping by 10 pm latest every night and wake up at a uniform time by 6 am every morning, even if you do not get sleep. If you do not get sleep, just lie down and if you have a bed lamp (or you could get one) lie down and read something light but not exciting. Your eyes will tire and you will fall asleep. If you like you may also put on light and soft music with the sleep function on. Depending on whether you are a visual or auditory person, you may watch TV in a lying down position until you feel sleepy. Have a warm bath before going to bed (for some people a cold bath at night seems to induce sleep! If you are one of them, please do so). Place the head side of your bed in a North-South position. The room must be as dark as possible and there should be no electronic items that give off even a light LED glow. There must be ample ventilation in the room. Avoid strong odors, except lavender, on your body or in the room, or on your sheets and clothes. There should not be any live plants in your bedroom. Sleep with the lightest of clothes or without any clothing. When lying down to sleep, lie down on your left ear as much as possible. Do not sleep directly under an overhead fan. You must eat a good breakfast, a fairly light lunch, and an early dinner, which should be a very light meal. Whatever you eat in the other meals, have only a pure carbohydrate meal at night with any vegetables, and preferably before 8 pm. Do not drink much liquids after or near about dinner time. When lying down to sleep you may use the 4-7-8 breathing pattern of sleep inducement i.e. Breathe in for four counts through your nostril only, hold for 7 counts, and exhale with a whoosh sound, through your mouth only, for 8 counts. Repeat this four times in the morning and just before you sleep at night. If you know Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT (check this out either on YouTube or Google), then please practice this too for sleep induction. Self-hypnosis and slow relaxation techniques, at night will be tremendously useful. Acupuncture or acupressure will both be very useful too. Pray last thing at night before you sleep.

Stammering can be made lesser only and only by speech therapy. So you should take the help of a speech therapist. Also, i'd suggest you to visit a psychologist as confidence plays a great role in dealing with this problem. I'd suggest you to speak very slowly, word by word. I am a class 12th student. I am going to appear for the aipmt exam this year. But the chapters which I had remembered throughout the year now I had forgotten all those things. Life is too precious and if the depression is making you contemplate suicide you must immediately seek professional help which will perhaps be both a counselor and a doctor. You are into an anger related depression and if you deal with the feeling, which may have origins from childhood, it will ease the effect of the depression. However, there is another factor that has to be considered, which is your age. Depression at this age is a sign that there is something from the past that needs resolution. Also due to your age I suspect that the adolescent issues with regard to hormones may be affecting your ability to concentrate and remember. When the hormones play up, it lasts for a period of close to two years and during that time you could be influenced by three signs directly impacted by the chemical: you will tend to become aggressive and rebellious, you will become sexually active, and you will have acne and pimple problems. The hormonal imbalances may not only impact your memory because of the chemical but also bring some distractions that come with it. But you may work on the following even if the hormones kick in: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food.

Dear lybrate-user, your situation might be due to some event which had happened in the past and you might be feeling that you are being judged or looked by all when in social setting. This starts a cycle of anxiety and stress and not being able to speak and since it happens everytime, you stop enjoying social gatherings. You can take help of a psychologist who can help you in overcoming your fears and breaking this pattern /cycle and also go in for relaxation therapy to help in feeling relaxed in social situations.

Dear lybrate-user, Your brother might be having hypomanic episodes as during this episode, symptom like alcohol use, over cheerfulness, increase physical activity, increase speech etc. Many times these episode are very short lasting like for few days only. This could be a part of bipolar affective disorder. I would recommend you to consult psychiatrist and get him evaluated. Good and effective treatment are available for his condition. All d best!

Smoking weed leads to mental illness and physical diseases/ Only by using strong will power and avoiding all situations where you feel like smoking, chewing tobacco or drinking or using drugs avoiding friends who smoke and diverting mind by reading or chewing a gum, like NICORETTE and taking a walk when you crave for a smoke can all help. You can chew Nicorette gum which is nicotine replacement. There are medicines available. Which can be prescribed if asked personally Cigarette smoking is a leading preventable cause of mortality. It kills more than 60 lakh people worldwide every year. More than 50% of regular smokers would invariably die from tobacco-related illnesses which includes heart attack, cancer or asthmatic lung diseases. Best age to stop smoking is before 40 31st May is “World No Tobacco Day” Quitting smoking before the age of 40 is associated with larger decline in premature death than stopping it at a later date. Best age therefore to stop smoking is before 40. However, stopping smoking even after the age of 50 is still associated with lower risk of death as compared to those who continue to smoke. Even in smokers aged 80 years or more, quitting smoking appears to reduce some mortality.

Dear lybrate-user, try this method many people are success first and most sleep early wake up early at 4.0 am and study with fresh mind, of course subjects which you are not interested you must spend more time and repeat it many times" practice makes perfect" not only human including pets. Parrots are talking and dogs are dancing. Switch off mobile phone when you go to bed and switch it on at 6am. Example some people they don't like mathematics but it is essential for life everyday and every time we are depended on mathematics, right from doctor to business man, including vegetable seller, we can understand many other distraction disturbed minds it is like love issues. Still not able to concentrate go for counselling help in person. Please give us feedback after trying for weekdays.

Hi! I am 25 years old working as Junior engineer. I drunk a lot as I am having lot of stress due to family problem. Since last couple of weeks I am getting backache plus the whole body pains even my arms and leg. I ask my wife to massage it everyday and has become a routine as daily process. Now we are trying to have a baby but its been about three to four months and she cannot conceive. I smoke a lot too. My friends circle told me that it is because I drinks and smoke a lot, that's the reason. Can it really be because of it? People do have such habit but they are happy. Hi, where are you from lybrate-user? in fact, smoking and drinking (alcohol) does not solve any issues. It may rather complicate stuff as it is damaging for your health. Apparently, myalgia, as you experience is associated with your mental stress and depression. First and foremost, I would advise you a complete cessation of drinking as well as smoking gradually over the next couple of days. Do exercise, yoga and'pranayam'/ breath control daily for self control and health. Streamline your diet and lifestyle too. Take lots of leafy greens and fruits on a daily basis and stay well hydrated. Consume fresh turmeric, lemon, garlic and ginger in culinary doses, daily. Additionally, a capsule of cod liver oil daily with food over the next 2 weeks helps too. Listen to melodious music of choice on a regular basis and take some time out for meditation daily. Also, would advise you to get a chest x-ray & liver function test done and apprise me accordingly. Hope this helps. Take care and all the very best.

Yes, the nicotine in cigarette smoke can reduce your erectile capacity and over a period of time it can affect yoru sexual potency. Each cigarette you smoke has an effect on your erectile capacity: the nicotine in the cigarette is a vaso-constrictor i.e. it narrows the blood vessels to constrict the blood flow. The erection of the penis is caused by an extra flow of blood to the penis along with a shut down valve that facilitates its engorgement. This action will be compromised. Smoking can also affect men's sperm, which can reduce fertility and also increase risks for birth defects and miscarriage. You are advised to stop smoking immediately.

Sir/Madam. I am CA final student and exam on November. I going through breakup of 3 years of extreme care and attachment. My girlfriend was very nice girl caring for her family and think a perfect women which I require. It is not about physical affection but I love her very much. Our breakup was due to Caste differences and for which she was very upset. Her father denied for that and only for her family against her will so she broke up. And still we are in contact which she asking for friendship and she saying she fully recovered and stable Now, I can't hate her or love her. At 6 am, I unconsciously remembering our sweet romance her touch, her anger, her love and feel very lonely and feared and also sex urge arising on her which are wrong. Her parents looking for her and I feel like I did trying to convince them and I talked with her. She saying it will not possible now I don't concentrate on studies well feeling guilty, all my happiness was around her. I understand it will not possible but, can't let go I confused what I should think and let go. Where it was gone wrong, How can I recover, what should be my next move. How can I control my self to move ahead. I fearing of depression for which I continued omega 3 capsules. I also think she will be settled and I become lost Please guide.

The end of a relationship often feels like the end of the world. After all the time and energy you have invested in it, it is very painful when it gets over. Keep in mind that life is full of ups and downs; nothing is permanent. The pain you feel today will go away with time. Give yourself time to heal. Give time, time. In the meanwhile don't isolate yourself from your friends and family. Confide in someone you are comfortable with. Make a list of life goals, and plan how to achieve them. Relationships are an important part of your life, but they are not everything. Spend time with those close to you, indulge in some enjoyable activities. Keep yourself busy. Slowly you will see that there is a lot to life. However if you are feeling suicidal, consult a psychiatrist immediately. Don't wait to feel worse.
