Knee Replacement Recovery Tips

Knee replacement surgery is a procedure that is used to replace a worn out knee joint with an artificial knee joint. Such a surgery is advised if your knee is causing pain and limiting your daily activities, provided other treatments have failed to cause the desired impact. Once the knee replacement surgery is completed, the focus shifts to the recovery phase.

  1. The duration of the recovery depends on the type of surgery and the individual.

  2. After the surgery, painkillers are administered to provide relief from the pain.

  3. In some cases, oxygen is administered through various tubes if required.

  4. A blood transfusion may also be required after a knee replacement surgery.

  5. The surgical wound will require a dressing to allow it to heal faster and prevent infection.

  6. A drain will be attached to the wound to drain out the blood from it and prevent accumulation of blood in the wound.

  7. The dressing of the wound should be changed regularly.

Post- Surgery Care

  • Post-surgery, you will need assistance to help you walk. If the surgery that you underwent was minimally invasive, then you should be able to walk on the very same day. Your physiotherapist will prescribe and show you some exercises to strengthen the knee. It is important that you follow his/her instructions to avoid complications.

  • A passive motion machine is sometimes prescribed as it helps to restore the movement of the knee. It helps in reducing the swelling by keeping your leg elevated and moving the knee when you are lying down.

Here are some knee replacement recovery tips:

  1. Avoid doing any work that puts pressure on the knees.

  2. Eat nutritious meals so that the body receives proper nourishment, thus allowing your leg to heal faster.

  3. Avoid heavy exercises which can strain your knees.

  4. Perform all the exercises prescribed by your physiotherapist to speed up the recovery process.

  5. Do not sit with your legs crossed for a few months after the surgery.

You need a high protein high calorie diet. Eat more protein food. Eat nuts and good fats. Eat fit & lite oil of doctor's choice 20-25 ml/day. Eat ghee, butter, paneer, milk product, cheese, chocolates.

To gain weight you should eat more calories than you burn. Plus not only you have to eat calorie dense food but you have to keep in mind that what you are eating is healthy too. In the process of weight gain you do not want to put weight in an uneven manner and look unhealthy rather than looking bright and healthy. 1.Start with changing your lifestly. Start working out if you are not active. The biggest myth that prevails now a days is that thin people do not need to work out. This is wrong. When you challenge your body, it is forced to grow. But this growth can only be possible if you are eating enough food to let the body absorb and grow in size and muscles. 2.Eat Healthy – Stop drinking and smoking too much if you are indulged in it. Limit your intake of junk food, pepsi, sugary stuff etc. Do not at all starve yourself. Make it a habit to eat something healthy every 3 hours. This means you have to eat 6 small meals in a day. Your Daily food intake should ideally consist of – a.Have plenty of nuts, dry fuits and seeds. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, figs, dates and raisins. They are full of healthy fats needed by a human body. B.Good amount of fruits and vegetables – Bananas, apples, pomegranate, green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables helps in absorption of food in the body and together, completes your daily nutrition need. C.If you are a non- vegetarian - Eat eggs, chicken etc. D.Eat whole grains – Try to have multi grains spread throughout the day. Wheat, brown rice, oats, bajra, daliya etc should be taken in multiple meals in a day. E.Eat Sprouts – Chana and moong which are full of protein and nutrients. F.You can supplement your diet with good quality multi-vitamin capsules. If you are lacking in protein, you can buy a high quality whey protein and have it with banana shake twice a day. G.You can take natural food items like wheat grass which is full of essential nutrients which helps in weight gain. Try to be patient while you are on the process of weight gain. Results take time to show. Just follow the regimen of weight gain religiously and you will soon start seeing the results.

For a diabetic it is best advised to have a diet planned as per the sugar levels, lifestyle and history. Though you can follow some guidelines - have small frequent meals. Do not fast for more than 2-3 hours. Avoid a very heavy meal at one time. Avoid fruit juices, aerated drinks or sugar cane juice, honey, jaggery or sugar. Avoid junk foods. Exercise and stay active. Do not attempt to try out too many remedies as you could go into hypoglycaemia. Sleep well. It's all a matter of discipline.

Most of elderly people suffer from such problems and I m proud of child like you who care. For sugar and bp whatever med she is taking should continue. Slowly switch to madhurakshak choorna 1 tsp with warm water 30 minutes before food. For b. P. Please take sarpagandha vati 2 tab + dhamasa choorna 1/2 tsp with water twicetwice a day. For knees please do hot fomentation over knees and then apply brihat guduchiguduchi oil + mahanarayan oil (both mixed) with gentle massage for about 10 minutes. Avoid direct ac or cooler for sometime after massage. Cont. For 15 days and report. Light diet and walk should be managed. Pathya (, i. E. Avoidables: curd, sour food)

I feel so tired ever, my friends are told that you look like lazy man, I think so. What is the reason and how I prevent that?

Dear, if you tired very fast and feeling weakness. Then you will definitely recover from weakness by following these very useful tips. * you should take proper balanced diet first. That means you have to take vegetables, milk, chapattis or rice, butter / cream, cereals (daals) or cheese every day. Very important thing, do not miss or skip your meals at any cost and take meals on time. * proper 6-8 hours sleep is very important. If your sleep is less than 6 hours, then you feel tired very early. So complete your sleep. * do breathing execises daily in morning & evening. Just sit down in peaceful place, close your eyes, take deep and long breaths in and out. Do it atleast for 10-15 minutes daily. You can also do pranayams like anulom vilom for better results. *take a walk, in first walk normally for 10-15 minutes for 15 days. You can do it on treadmill also. * you can take ashvagandha churn of baidyanath 1 teaspoon with milk daily for 2 months atleast to get your strength back. * check out your haemoglobin level in 3 months, if it is low you get tired early. So get treatment of low haemoglobin (anemia). If you have any disease like asthma /diabetes / hypertension, then get complete treatment of them. * avoid all fast foods and habit of smoking or drinking. You surely get great strength and recover from weakness by following these important things.

Kindly show me a photograph of the affected part--knee rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back, knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Avoid crocin. Tk traction therapy and ultrasonic therapy for few days. Stretching exercises and postures correction must. Avoid toward bending strength exercises in gradually process. After relief.

Diet, exercise along with herbal preparations will be effective in weight gaining, shaping body, fitness, maintaining stamina etc. The consumption nutritious diets along with herbal supplements are more effective in weight gain. Mental determination and attitude is also important. Dear lybrate user use hot pack 15 minutes twice a day and use ointment stretching exercise of leg, big towel roll put under knee press towel tight your knee hold 5 sec repeat 10 times, put rolled towel between both knee press for 5 sec repeat 10 times, bend and straight both knee with bed contact 15 times repeat.

Hi, Go for aerobics for 30 mnts. Take, banana,butter, hot milk, almonds ,walnuts in d break fast. Add ghee in lunch with breads, rice, pulses . Take, apples, carrots,soya been, rajama, cheese, milk,pumpkins,spinach, regularly. Take, plenty of water to eliminate toxins and to regulate metabolism to complete d digestion to allow body growth, smoothly. Avoid, dust,smoke, caffiene, nicotine, junk food,alcohol. I eat regularly but still I am slim. What are the reason and what to do increase weight get body in shape.
I suggest you easy method of weight gain just follow it for year you will gain weigh defiantly 1. Start exercise regularly for 3 month and then after 3 month leave it for 3 month at the time of exercise your diet will increase but same diet continue after 3 month when you stop exercise so thats why your weight will increase automatically now we discus about diet 2. Take dates with milk in the morning breakfast 3. Triphala kadha 4 tsp beore lunch and dinner 4. Amala juice 4 tsp + 2tsp sugar + 2tsp honey in the morning empty stomach this take for 1.5 month only your weight gain will take definitely note=avoid over eating. When you are trying to gain weight, you should eat food the rich in vitamins and minerals. 1. Healthy food includes meat, egg, milk, fruit vegetables, fruits, and nuts. Cashews, almonds, dates, walnuts, dry grapes, apricots, peaches are some of the dried fruits and nuts that can be added to breakfast, salads, cereal and desserts. Sesame seeds, ground nuts, and peanuts also contain fats in them and can help in adding that extra pounds you desire. 2. Sometimes loss of appetite may also cause weight loss. So you should take following remedies improving weight a]triphala kadha 4tsp before lunch and dinner b]amala juice 4 tsp + sugar 2 tsp+ honey 2 tsp empty stomach in the morning umami flavor increases satiety and enhances appetite. Due to improving hunger and digestion whatever you will eat more and even you eat more it will digest properly and your weight will increase naturally without any supplement.

Day 1 Breakfast – 1 cup of tea or coffee, 1 egg, 1 tomato, few slices of cheese with whole bran bread. Snack – 1 cup of yogurt, 1 apple. Lunch – 1 cup of whole grain pasta with salad dressed with olive oil and lemon juice. Snack – ½ cup of cottage cheese with pear. Dinner – Baked fish with steamed vegetables, 1/3 cup of brown rice. Day 2 Breakfast – 1 cup of cottage cheese with dry or fresh fruits, 1 cup of low fat milk, tea. Snack – 1 cup of yogurt, 1 banana. Lunch – 5 oz chicken breast with 1 baked potato, salad with olive oil and lemon juice. Snack – 1 tablespoon of peanut butter with celery or apple. Dinner – Omelet with mushrooms, 1 cup of tea. Day 3 Breakfast – 1 cup of oatmeal with teaspoon of butter and fruits, 1 cup of tea. Snack – 1 yogurt, few walnuts. Lunch – ½ of grapefruit, 1 cup of rice with vegetables, 1 Caesar salad with low fat dressing and cheese. Snack – 1 tablespoon of hummus with vegetables. Dinner – 1 cup of cottage cheese, fruit salad, 1 cup of milk. Day 4 Breakfast – Omelet with cheese, fresh strawberries, 1 whole grain English muffin. Snack – 1 yogurt, 1 apple. Lunch – 1 bowl of vegetable soup, 5 oz of lean meat or chicken, ½ cup of brown rice. Snack – Handful of mixed dry fruit and nuts, 1 cup of tea. Dinner – Large salad with chicken, 1 cup of milk. Day 5 Breakfast – 2 whole grain toasts with cream cheese, 1 cup of tea or coffee, fresh fruits. Snack – 2 teaspoons of peanut butter, few whole grain crackers. Lunch – Fish with steamed vegetables, 1 cup of yogurt. Snack – Fruit smoothie. Dinner – 5 oz chicken or turkey, 1 baked potato, salad, 1 cup of tea. Make sure you drink at least 8 cups of water during the day. Avoid sweet beverages. Drink herbal of green tea that is full of antioxidants and metabolism boosters. Eat lots of fresh veggies. Do not forget to exercise regularly.
