She is 5 years old looking so dull not taking food properly. Weight and height is also low. Looking cute but not bright. what should I do?

MD - Paediatrics, Diploma in Child Health (DCH)
Pediatrician, Mumbai
She needs to be checked up by a doctor, to rule out conditions like low protein, low iron, anaemia etc. Most of these children might be low in iron or vitamins and supplementing these will help. Also, one needs to see what her diet it, and modify it to suit her needs.

Try exclusive breastfeeding up to 6 months of age. Stop bottle feeding. Use spoon to feed. Cow's milk is preferred to formula milk. 5 to 6 times loose stools in a day is normal if baby is gaining weight appropriate to his age. No comments on medicines if advised by pediatrician.

Weight depends upon the birth weight. Birth weight is regained at 2 weeks. After that increases at a rate of 30 grams per day.

Parents nowadays give young children coke or Pepsi to drink. I was shocked to see a mother giving coke in a feeding bottle to a baby. Can anybody please provide the harmful effects of these drinks so that people don't make these mistakes. Thanks.

Keep area clean with plain water. Keep it dry, don't put any cream unless prescribed by doctor. Avoid spilling of milk over there. Avoid heavy clothing so sweat doesn't cause irritation and friction.

My baby is 4 months old. If I feed lactogen stage 1 to my baby then should I stop my breast milk?

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Jaipur
Just continue breast feeding, if baby weight is normal, no need to give lactogen. Start liquid & semisolid food at the age of 5 months in gradually increasing quantity.
