Yes, it is correct. You should aim to get at least 30 minutes of aerobic exercise most days of the week. If you think that you can’t find 30 minutes, you can break up the exercise into chunks—10 minutes here and there. Build up to 30 minutes gradually.

My uric acid level is 6.4. Earlier it was 8.9 and came down now after some diet changes and homeopathy treatment. I go to gym and do weight exercise. Is it safe to take whey protein in this condition? Kindly suggest good protein sources which contain less purine.

Hello, Thanks for the query. Blood glucose fasting 123 mg, means you are in the pre-diabetic stage. It means if you take adequate care, adapt a changed lifestyle, maintain normal body weight and BMI, exercise regularly, avoid sweets, junk foods, pastries and bakery itmes, colas and deep fried foods, then you can prevent or postpone progressing to wards developing diabetes. Your BMI is 26.51 kgs/M2 (normal <23 kgs). Your ideal body weight should be 56 kgs. It means diet control and regular exercise are needs of the day. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, the various things you have mentioned are some what inter related but everything can not be predicted as you may be thinking. Various things can cause problem with heart. High cholesterol can cause blocks in the coronary artery which can lead to angina or later myocardial infarction (heart attack). High blood pressure puts extra work load on the heart. Diabetes does affect large blood vessels (coronary artery) and also aids dyslipidemia. Tests like echocardiogram and angiography do help in identifying possible causes leading to heart attacks.

Dear lybrate-user, Your dad was dependent on alcohol. It is usual for him to get withdrawal symptoms when he stops all of a sudden. He needs to be admitted and given plenty of Thiamine as injection or in drip and tablets. He needs tablet lorazepam every 2-3 hours depending on his withdrawal symptoms measured on a special scale in the ward. Uncomplicated withdrawal will subside with this treatment in 2-3 days. Complication can occur as fits, delirium, neuropathy etc. Those need more treatment. Just admit him to hospital nearby and they will take care.

Mr. lybrate-user, If TSH is very low (0.004 mU/L), then you may consider reducing the dose of thyroxine by 12.5 mcg, then check TSH after 6 weeks. Ideally TSH should be maintained between 3 to 4 mU/L to be free from symptoms of hypothyroidism. Thanks.

I am diabetic paswnt past 7years I want to control how is it possible now I am 42 years old.
Hi, I am a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator and a doctor (general physician) who will help you in your diabetes problem. Do let me know your hba1c value? also you need to provide me your daily food intake details. There are many lifestyle and dietary guidelines that can be followed: take high fiber prescribed diet which includes soluble fibre like apple, isabgol etc. Get more physical activity by prescription from a registered dietitian eat a balanced diet which includes whole grains and excludes all refined products like maida as prescribed by a registered dietitian, if you're overweight, diabetes prevention may hinge on weight loss. Every pound you lose can improve your health, and you may be surprised by how much. Participants in one large study who lost a modest amount of weight around 7 percent of initial body weight and exercised regularly reduced the risk of developing diabetes by almost 60 percent. I being a registered dietitian and doctor have been successfully helping patients with their diabetes problem. I will also prescribe medicines that will speed up the time to achieve your weight management goals.

Radiation mucositis is a common problem / side effect during radiation . It results in pain which decrease oral intake of food and fluids. A step ladder approach of analgesics is advised and if required a ryles tube is also inserted through nose. In your case you should check whether your father has normal serum sodium and potassium levels as lower levels can cause altered sensorium. Thanks.

Mr. lybrate-user, Your blood glucose levels show that diabetes is not in good control Even HbA1c% should be <6.8. One of the main reason appears to be obesity. If you make serious efforts to cut your weight by about 8 %, you will be able to achieve excellent blood glucose control. We will have to look at your diet and exercise pattern. If you are keen to reduce weight, then I can help. Thanks.
