FOR BAD BREATH: •Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. FOR YELLOW TEETH: The simplest method of removing minor surface stains is polishing, or micro-abrasion if staining is more intrinsic. Provided that your discolouration is not due to inadequate enamel exposing the dentin, tooth whitening (bleaching) is often the most effective treatment for yellow stained teeth. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use Snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply SNOWDENT paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min. Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results.

I am having black color on my tongue, what could be the reason, is it any type of deficiency.

BDS
Dentist, Mumbai
The name black hairy tongue may sound scary, but the condition is harmless. Black hairy tongue is caused by bacteria or fungi in the mouth, which make the tongue appear black and hairy. It's easily remedied by good old-fashioned oral hygiene. it is caused by too much bacteria or yeast growth in the mouth . The bacteria build up on tiny rounded projections called papillae. These lie along the surface of the tongue. Normally, the papillae are pinkish-white. But as they grow, pigments from food, drinks, and possibly the bacteria or yeast themselves get caught in the papillae, dyeing the tongue a color. Most often that color is black, hence the name. But the tongue can also turn brown, yellow, green, or a variety of other colors. •poor oral hygiene •smoking tobacco •drinking a lot of coffee or tea when there is too much growth of the yeast Candida albicans, which can cause a burning sensation on the tongue. Some people complain of a tickling feeling in the back of the roof of the mouth, a metallic taste in their mouth, or nausea .papillae can cause bad breath. kindly see a dental surgeon and get scaling and polishing done and maintain oral hygiene .

Maintenance seems good don't worry, plaque formation on teeth is daily natural process after you consume food, I would recommend you to add dietary fibre foods like cabbage etc. And fruits to keep natural cleaning, besides every 6 month professional scaling.

Sir u need to understand that unhygiene is a major problem for tooth decay but not the only problem. Flossing is as important as brushing . Brushing cleans from outside. But food particles also get stuck inbetween ur teeth. To clean that flossing is required. food habits, malallignment, hereditary.. lot of other causes r also there. So don't worry and without delaying , get filling done in carious teeth.

Treatment dental pain teeth pain may be due to various reasons like infection, sensitivity or trauma. If your teeth is decayed it is better to get it filled or treated by a dentist. If you are opting for root canal treatment do not forget to get a crown on the effected tooth. If you want to go for only medicinal treatment so let me tell you only medicine are not going to be very effective untill you get this treated by a dentist.

Treatment of submucous fibrosis depends upon the severity of class like class 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Class 1 and 2 are beginning stages and can be treated with some medicine and exercises. Class 2 and 3 are moderate stages and can be treated with medicine, exercise and steriods and class 5 is severe stage and requires surgery. Sub mucous fibrosis is a pre cancerous lesion and requires long term treatment and requires lot of patience and life style modification in which you have to stop any habit of eating /smoking tobacco in any form. Even nicotine patches are also not advisable. So consult you dentist for your treatment.

Healthy Mouth Happy you- Brushing and Flossing the Right Way

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Mumbai
Healthy Mouth Happy you- Brushing and Flossing the Right Way
Right Way to Brush-

Proper brushing takes at least two minutes — that's right, 120 seconds! Most adults do not come close to brushing that long. To get a feel for the time involved, try using a stopwatch. To properly brush your teeth, use short, gentle strokes, paying extra attention to the gumline, hard-to-reach back teeth and areas around fillings, crowns or other restoration. Concentrate on thoroughly cleaning each section as follows:

B1 Tilt the brush at a 45° angle against the gumline and sweep or roll the brush away from the gumline

B2Gently brush the outside, inside and chewing surface of each tooth using short back-and-forth strokes.

B3Gently brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen breath.

Clean the outer surfaces of your upper teeth, then your lower teeth
Clean the inner surfaces of your upper teeth, then your lower teeth
Clean the chewing surfaces
For fresher breath, be sure to brush your tongue, too
Frequency of brushing-

Studies have shown that brushing once a day in preschool settings, using a fluoride toothpaste will prevent cavities. Families should be encouraged to brush additional times at

home. Brushing before bedtime is especially important, in order to prevent plaque and food particles remaining in contact with the teeth throughout the night.

Replacing Toothbrush-

You should replace your toothbrush when it begins to show wear, or every three months, whichever comes first. It is also very important to change toothbrushes after you've had a cold, since the bristles can collect germs that can lead to reinfection.

Electric power brush-

PBRAn electric toothbrush is a toothbrush that uses electric power supplied usually by a battery to move the brush head rapidly, either oscillating side to side, or rotation-oscillation (where brush heads rotate in one direction and then the other).

ADVANTAGES OF AN ELECTRIC POWER BRUSH
1.Faster Brushing
2.Easier Brushing
3.Deep Cleaning
4.Painless Cleaning
5.Stain Removal
6.Fresher Breath
7.Proven Long-Term Results

FLOSSING

Flossing in addition to toothbrushing can reduce gingivitis and halitosis compared to toothbrushing alone.

FLOSDental floss is a bundle of thin filaments used to remove food and dental plaque from teeth. The floss is gently inserted between the teeth and scraped along the teeth sides, especially close to the gums or underneath them. Dental floss may be made of either plastic (nylon, PTFE or polyethylene) or silk, and can be flavored or unflavored, and waxed or unwaxed. An alternative tool to achieve the same effect is the interdental brush.

Advantages of flossing
ØProper flossing removes plaque and food particles in places where a toothbrush cannot reach- under the gum-line and between the teeth.
ØDaily flossing is recommended because plaque build-up can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.
ØIt stimulates gums, polishes tooth surfaces, reduces gum bleeding and prevents gum disease.

FLOSSINGFlossing technique
Start with about 18 inches of floss, wind most of the floss around each middle finger, leaving an inch or two of floss to work with.

ØHold the floss tautly between your thumbs and index fingers, slide it gently up-and- down between your teeth.
ØGently curve the floss around the base of each tooth using a seesaw motion, making sure you go beneath the gum-line. Never snap or force the floss, as this may cut or bruise delicate gum tissue.
ØCurve the floss around the side of one tooth, forming a 'C' shape and rub the floss up and down to clean the tooth. Repeat the procedure in the opposite direction i.e. on the adjacent tooth.
ØUse clean sections of floss as you move from tooth to tooth.
ØTo remove the floss, use the same back-and-forth motion to bring the floss up and away from the teeth.
Floss holders are also available and can be used in the difficult to reach areas.

MOUTHWASH

MWMouthwash or mouth rinse is a chemotherapeutic agent used as an effective home care system by the patient to enhance oral hygiene.

A mouthwash is a flavored liquid that people use to rinse out their mouths before or after brushing their teeth. Some individuals may also rinse with mouthwash between brushings, particularly after eating foods that may cause a person to have bad breath. Mouthwash typically emphasize the treatment and prevention of halitosis as one of the many benefits of mouthwash. Mouthwash can be effective at combating bad breath.

ØBacteria in the mouth can also cause foul-smelling breath. Many antiseptic mouthwash products claim to kill the germs that cause bad breath.
ØSome mouthwash products are designed to help heal sores or irritation after oral surgery.

I'm doing brush with soft brush regularly but why teeth have seesivity problems please tell me.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

I'm doing brush with soft brush regularly but why teeth have seesivity problems please tell me.
A major cause of tooth sensitivity is root exposure. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (full mouth x-ray) to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures and / or artificial enamel filling. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (sensodyne tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight will be better. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

Dear, We can understand your concerns. If you want a less expensive option - one can go for a remoavble partial denture (RPD). If you want something which works as fixed - one can even think of giving a bridge.
