Is castor oil good for hairs and skin and for reducing fat? Does it have any adverse affect on health?

MBBS
General Physician, Mumbai
Dear lybrateuser, -Castor oil is good for skin as it helps in prevention of sagging skin as it acts as a lubricant, as it prevents dry skin & helps to tighten loose skin, in combination with toning exercises & a well balanced diet & water intake, you can massage castor oil directly into the skin daily, adding lemon juice may also enhance its effects -heat the oil & allow it to cool for sometime, massage the warm oil in the scalp for healthy , shining hair -it has a strong laxative effect so an overdose can lead to dehydration, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, nausea when taken internally.

I am a registered dietitian and a doctor who will help you in managing your weight. You need to provide me your daily food intake details. There are many lifestyle and dietary guidelines that can be followed: take high protein prescribed diet, have paneer, eggs and potatoe daily. Incorporate dry fruits in your diet on a daily basis. Eat a balanced diet as prescribed by a registered dietitian, I being a registered dietitian and doctor have been successfully helping patients with their problem. I will also prescribe medicines that will speed up the time to achieve your weight management goals. Gradual weight management is always advisable. An increase in 500 kcal per day can result in increasing the body weight by 0.5 kgs per week. Objective should be to restore a desirable weight/ ideal body weight according to one's age, gender and height. To rebuild body tissues, to maintain a good nutritional status and to maintain ideal body weight. I will need to carry out detailed assessment in your case, after assessing your personal challenges to weight management, I will recommend a strategy to gradually change habits and attitudes that have sabotaged your past efforts. I being a both a registered dietitian (rd) and doctor have been successfully helping patients with their problems through a holistic approach using customized therapeutic diet and medications. I will also suggest home remedies. Do reply back for private consultation for rx.

If you have any disease of digestive system you should treat disease first. For proper digestion - take 10 gms powder of carom seeds (ajwain, 10 gm powder of cumin (jeera), 10 gm of rock salt. Mix them well and take 1/2 teaspoon (3-5 gm) of mixture daily after meal. Or take 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper (kali mirch), 1/ 2 tea spoon of jeera (cumin), 2-3 slice of ginger. Boil it in one glass of water for 2-3 minutes. Drink 5-10 teaspoons (15-20 ml) in morning and evening for strong digestive system. Or you can take amla powder 1 teaspoon with water for strong digestion. 2. Take a diet rich with proteins and fats. You should take high calorie food that increase your muscle mass and induce growth in bones. I am sending the diet chart. Follow it in your daily life to fastly gain weight * in morning, take a glass of milk added with 2 teaspoons of protein powder with breakfast. * in lunch time, take 1 bowl of curd or 100 gm of cheese, a bowl of vegetable, with chapattis. * in evening, take 1 glass of milk (300 ml) with 2 bananas. * in night, take a bowl of careals (daal, a bowl of salad with chapattis. 3. Check your uric acid levels which might cause knee pain. I suggest you to do hot water fermentations that would help you to get relieved from joint pains. I also suggest you to go for good ayurvedic body massage which would help you to get relieved from joint pain and also swimming activity is advisable. But food precautions, it is better to avoid tamarind in the food instead you can add lime or mango. And also avoid eating fried foods.

Sir my height is 6 ft & I am 21 year old and my personality is not good as my height my arm is thin what should I do to increase my weight. Is there any protein powder which you suggest.

DUSM
Unani Specialist, Coimbatore
Eat food rich in good calories for weight gain one banana contains approximately 100 calories. Not only are bananas rich in carbs and nutritious, they're also great for workout fuel, adding extra fat to your food is an easy way to add calories, choose olive oil, canola oil, etc. Which is good for your health and will add those much needed calories too, one serving of cheddar cheese packs a good 69 calories. Cheese is concentrated milk, so it is high in protein and calcium, fat, cholesterol and cheese calories.

Am little bit skinny how I can make me smart n good lookie what I should do for that?

MSc
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Chandigarh
Hi lybrate-user here are 6 ways to gain weight healthily: 1. Eating 5 to 6 meals a day in order to gain weight, start eating 5-6 meals a day by breaking them into parts. Eating a lot at once may cause indigestion if the body fails to absorb all nutrients. Eat in small amounts, even if you are not hungry and there will be an increase in appetite from day to day. The aim should be to have a generously portioned breakfast, lunch and dinner, as well as two to three snacks in between. 2. Start weight training if you build your muscles through weight training, it will convert the extra weight into lean body mass and also stimulate your appetite. The extra muscle increases the rate of metabolism. When you start exercising you will often experience extreme muscle soreness but it goes away in 3-5 days. 3. Load up on protein besides weight training, a protein-rich diet can help you gain mass. Eating a meal heavy in protein shortly after finishing exercise can be highly effective in adding extra pounds to your body. However, a diet focused only on lean protein is not helpful. It is important to make sure that your diet has plenty of fat in it. Eat foods rich in protein like cheese, meat, eggs, etc to gain weight in a healthy manner. 4. Workout your entire body a lot of people focus only on training the muscles on their arms, chest and shoulders and this is a grave error. Firstly, it will give you a disproportionate body; and it will make you prone to injuries. Therefore, it's important to work out the entire body for a complete and balanced look. 5. Drink your calories to reach the calorie requirement only by eating may be tough. Drinking milk, milkshakes or protein shakes with little or no sugar can be an effective way to load up on the calorie requirements. 6. Be patient and believe in yourself gaining weight quickly in a healthy manner is unrealistic. Every body type is different and it takes months to gain weight. Living healthy by eating the right diet will increase your strength. It is also important to keep following the routine even if you don't see any gains. Caution: junk food and fried foods must be avoided; although have a tendency to add more fat to your body but are very low in vitamins and minerals which are essentially required to keep you really fit. Related tip: the most powerful way to put on weight - snacking right.

I am 37 years old now After delivery my weight is increasing. I am 164cm height and weighs 76kg. Please give me answer.

Hello- 7 tips for losing weight after pregnancy. 1. Give diets a miss *ditch all junk food from your kitchen - studies show when you're sleep-deprived you'll be more tempted to eat it. *fill the fridge and pantry with lots of fruit and veg, lean meats, fish and seafood, whole grains (oats, grainy breads, beans, pulses), eggs, and healthy snacks like yoghurt, nuts and seeds (chia seeds for example, are great in a smoothie and a real fibre-booster). *even though you're probably short on time right now, a food diary can be a great help if you want to keep track of what you're eating. Research shows that women who monitor their eating enjoy greater weight loss than those who don't - because it makes you more mindful of what you're putting in your mouth. 2. Forget celebrity mums 3. For post pregnancy weight loss, consider breastfeeding 4. Get fit with baby 5. Get some sleep. 6. Consider a belly wrap 7. Use ayurveda use ashokaristha 2 tsp twice daily tab chandra prabha vati 1 tab twice.
