Keep practicing and do take a simple high protein diet like milk, curds & boiled eggs (if you eat) clear soups minus cream -both veg & non veg, carbs & little good fats like desi ghee and butter + a katori of assorted nuts to get ggod fats and proteins. Eat seasonal vegetables & fruits according to your constitution but no juices. Drink lots of water and ors, lemon + spoon of honey with warm water if taken on empty stomach every morning does help get rid of bad fats from blood and bad fats in blood is one of the reasons of low stamina. Take multivitamin becosule or polybion capsule one a day _ shelcal 500 mg for calcium & vitamin d for strong bones. Do deworming by taking a tablet of bandy plus so that the food eaten by you is utilized well. Take a course of metrogyl 200 mg twice daily with food for 3 days -this is again to cleanse your food pipe. Do write back after a month. As a proof for reassurance you can get basic heart tests done- ecg, halter, blood for sugar, cbc & total lipids, get back here with reports if anything is faulty, otherwise carry on with your practice.

ECG normal, you are not over weight. If you do not have high BP and Diabetes then it should not be a reason to worry. Eat non spicy low protein food to prevent hyper acidity. You should feel relief.

Mouth Breathing - What Can Cause It?

MBBS, MS - ENT
ENT Specialist, Ghaziabad
Mouth Breathing - What Can Cause It?

An estimated of 10 percent or more children snore for more than 1 night. Snoring results from the obstruction of breath when the air makes its way through the mouth. The air passage of the throat through which the air goes in and out causes the tissue to vibrate causing snore. The sound of the snore totally depends on the amount of air passing through the mouth and the frequency at which the throat is vibrating. Children above the age of three years tend to snore when they are deep in sleep.

Primary and secondary snoring:
Children who are otherwise healthy should not have a snoring problem unless there is some health disorder. However, if loud snoring is observed in otherwise a perfectly healthy kid, seeking medical help is a wise thing to do. In general, primary snoring is defined as a condition which is not associated with other sleep-related disorders such as lung disorder, OASS, inability to sleep for a longer duration etc.

Other possibilities:
It is estimated that close to three percent of the children suffers from breathing problem while sleeping. OSAS is a condition which is characterised by pauses in breathing and gasps along with loud snores. There could be instances where a kids’ muscle relaxes way too much obstructing the air to pass through. The body and the brain are both alerted at this stage. As soon as the brain sends a signal, the body wakes up. Thus, most kids suffering from this disorder are not able to sleep well and tend to feel tired throughout the day.

Common causes of sleep apnea:
Sleep apena is a major cause of snoring. It can be caused because of allergies, obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) etc. In children sleep, apnea can also be caused by tonsil. Since the tonsil size of children less than 7 years of age tends to be bigger than adult individuals, it causes snoring related problem. Swollen tonsils not only obstruct air but creates other health related problems as well.

Symptoms of sleep apnea during the day and night:

  1. Loud snore
  2. Snorts, gasps, pauses during sleep
  3. Heavy sweat during sleep
  4. Social and behavioural problems
  5. Failure to get up in the morning
  6. A nasal voice
  7. Easily irritated, cranky and aggressive

Relief measure:
The first thing a that a doctor does is a physical exam followed by observing the symptoms of a kid. Primary snorting can be addressed by physical exercise, counselling and breathing exercise. Problems related to apnea are addressed through medicine, counselling, and exercise. Certain dietary restrictions also needed to be followed during this time. However, apena is completely treatable within a certain time frame.

My wife age 50, high BP under control by medicine. If she happen to know somebody died all of sudden by heart attack and if chest pain starts she will fear of heart attack and death if we check BP and ecg we found that everything is normal. Our family doctor said this is a psychological problem and consult a psychiatrist. Doctor, we sincerely request for a solution. Please guide us. Thanks.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS
General Physician, Delhi
Your family doctor is right, sudden loss of a dear one does lead to panick attacks but one needs good understanding near and dear ones, she may not need a psychiatrist to help her. You can give her a mild tranquillizer like librium, I would be surprised if there was no reaction to ultimate truth like death, though reactions to sudden death vary from individuals, some keep emotions bottled up, others vent out which is less harmful compared to pent up emotions. Reassure her that since her tests are normal, nothing will happen to her. Life is fragile if we look at natural calamities, bomb blasts & road accidents. She has to look at death with a larger perspective, being surrounded by caring people who understand her and slowly try to instil some logic.

She is a heart patient. Please tell me healthy diet for her. She is of the age 70.

If you have one or more forms of heart disease now there are many things you can do, in addition to using medication that's likely been recommended for you, to improve your health. Either way, be sure to eat well (choosing food from a variety of groups, high in fiber and low in saturated fat andcholesterol) and get plenty of exercise. Exercise does not have to be strenuous—a regular habit of brisk walkingmost days of the week for 30 to 60 minutes, and ideally, once a day, is all you need to do to reduce your risk of heart problems.

Both of them are good if used alternately. You should not stick to one specific type of oil. It will help you to get benefits of different oils and is good for health.

Mr Dhirendra, If your blood sugar is well controlled then there is no need to chenge treatment. Good control means fasting close to 100 mg and PP between 150 to 160 mg and HbA1c%<7.. If this achieved then there is no reason to change.

I am 20 years old. I have gastric problem, often when I take spicy food I suffer from pain in chest. Please help me with suggesting something. Thank you.

BAMS
Ayurveda, Bangalore
Avoid spicy and oily food. Eat at regular intervals. Don't keep your stomach empty for long hours. Eat small quantities of food every 2hrs once till you get rid of the pain. You can take antacids before consuming any food so that it will neutralise the acid produced in the stomach. Don't get worried too much. Mental tensions will also cause gastritis. Drink plenty of water. Eat fruits or drink fresh fruit juices or tender coconut which keep your body cool.
