Hi My pp reading is normally around 200 though fasting reading is 120. I take insulin lanctus 14 units. Other oral medicines are also there. Should my insulin fose be increased?

Fellowship in Diabetes Management, MBBS
General Physician,
Fasting readings are fine, should be around 100-110, what other oral meds are there, and since how many yrs are you diabetic. Do your hba1c. Hba1c will show you exact diabetes control. Fasting and post meals sugar will show particular day glucose reading. Fbs and ppbs is trailer of diabetes, hba1c is entire movie. Do your hba1c from srl or metropolis.

Lybrate-user, your concern about developing t2 dm is quite right. Because this is a disease which does show familial trait. If both parents have diabetes then 75 % chance of children getting it. (3 out of 4 children may get). However, one thing good about t2dm is that it is a preventable disease. So if you do following things: 1) maintain normal weight, (height in cms - 100 = kgs), by regular exercise for more than 1 hour a day. 2) take a balanced diet that provides exact amount of calories needed based on ideal body weight and extent of daily exercise. 3) avoid excess sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Also avoid sweetened aerated drinks and fructose corn syrup containing products, high fat cheese, ghee and butter. 4) refrain from alcohol and smoking. 5) consume good deal of green leafy vegetables and salads and fruits. Also take a good deal of fiber containing foods mainly whole grain foods. If you stick these things then you can delay the onset of t2 dm or be free from it. All the best.

Is Diabetes Curable?

LCPS, BAM&S
General Physician, Pune
Is Diabetes Curable?

More young people are detected with diabetes than aged people, nowadays. Stress of work, irregular lifestyle and uncontrolled eating are the reasons of diabetes. Diabetes is incurable. Repeat, diabetes is incurable. But, it can be kept under control. There is no cure for diabetes in any pathy. So stop visiting different pathy clinics, vaids, homeopathy clinics or any magic remedy centres to get cured.

To keep diabetes under control follow these simple tricks.
1. Eat six times a day, eat little every time.
2. Walk for 60 minutes every single day, rain or sun.
3. Avoid or eat least possible rice, sweet, fried food, potatoes.
4. Take drugs.
5. Sleep early, sleep well.
6. Avoid stress, relax, laugh, play, listen to music and enjoy picnics.
7. Check your hba1c every 3 months and adjust your medication under the guidance of a good doctor.

Allopathy and Ayurveda both have very good medicines that will keep your sugar down. Ayurvedic drugs are free of side effects whereas allopathic drugs have to be constantly monitored for side effects. But in any case both the types of drugs are to be taken lifelong.

As long as sugar levels are under control, diabetics have nothing to fear about. They can lead a normal life, have good longevity, can enjoy all pleasures of life including sex, travel, sports. Restrictions on eatings can be compromised once in a while when sugar levels are under control.

Quarterly check-ups of sugar and general health check up once in two years will ensure that life is going well for you.

Hiii my mother age 55 years old sugar patient sugar level 400 sugar not control please tell me som medicine.
Mr Sameer, The level mentioned is too high and if not controlled early may cause or precipitate long term complications. So see that the level is brought under control rapidly. To give any suggestions I need more information like : Current fasting and PP sugar levels, HbA1c%, drugs being taken with dosage, diet pattern and quantity of physical exercise done daily. It will be better if you come in a private conversation with all the details, where I can give specific suggestions and prescription. In this communication we are supposed to give only general guidelines like she should avoid sweets, deep fried foods, junk foods and pastries. Consume more of green leafy vegetables, salads and permitted fruits (about 100 g / day). etc.

Hi
My husband who is 28 years is having pain and swelling in the foot with difficulty in walking!
He has had that in ...
Lybrate-user, excess uric acid in some patients leads to gouty arthritis. This leads to swelling and pain in various joints. Most often great toe is first involved. The remedy is to take all those medications which your doctor has already prescribed. This condition comes in episodes. Whenever the attack comes it has to be treated with medicines. Along with that patient has to refrain from foods high in purines like red meat, organ meat, certain sea foods particularly fishes like sardines, scallops, herring, haddock, salmon, trout, mushrooms and mussels. Also avoid sweetened aerated drinks & alcohol. Eggs & milk products can be taken. Vegetables also are good. It is not a completely curable condition. Thanks.

My blood sugar level Fasting is 90 to 110 PP is 140 to 180 after 1.30 hr of breakfast there is big thirst of water now question is this i am a diabetic of not

MD - Pathology
Pathologist, Noida
You seem to have polydipsia meaning increased thirst , which is one of the symptoms of diabetes, but, your blood levels suggest otherwize. Fasting sugar levels are normal, whereas PP sample is mildy raised but is considered as less specific. Based on this , you are currently not a diabetic patient but you come in the danger zone. Please repeat your fasting sugar levels after strict overnight fasting of 12 hours and also get a HbAic test done. Also get fasting insulin level done. Your reports will decide further course of action.
