Hi doctors I am 27 years old female. I have primary hypothyroidism now. Is there weight gaining due to this thyroid. If yes how can I control my weight. My weight was 69 after delivery and after 8 months my weight is 65. Kg.i want to reduce my weight. What diet plan should I follow to decrease my weight due to thyroid disease?

Hi doctors I am 27 years old female. I have primary hypothyroidism now. Is there weight gaining due to this thyroid. ...
lybrate-user, With a BMI of 25.39 kgs/M2, you are overweight. Ideal weight for you should be 60 kgs. Hypothyroidism if not in control, it does increase weight. It is important to keep TSH levels between 3 to 4 mU/L for keeping all symptoms under check. Even efforts to reduce weight will be fruitful only with lower TSH value. As regards diet, you have to plan a balanced diet with low aft and low carbohydrate, giving exact calories based on ideal body weight and extent of daily exercise. Plus exercise for at least 1 hour a day. It is beeter if you join a gym and do workouts under a professional guidance. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, you can take vitamin supplements since your diet may not be adequate. Any vitamin supplement capsule is fine. Daily one would be good enough, like multivitamin combinations. There are a number of brands. Plus it better if you take some liquid tonic about 1/2 hour before food, which will stimulate appetite, a preparation like neogodine elixer 2 tsf 3 times a day. Thanks.

You have hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht), which is confirmed with very high anti-tpo abs. In some cases of ht, ige antibodies also tend to increase. As ht is an autoimmune disorder, it also stimulates ig e antibodies against thyroid per oxidase. Some times chronic urticaria is also a condition associated with ht. So these are related and these antibodies are seen some patients.

Hello, For a person with diabetes it is better to avoid very sweet dry fruits. But if glucose is well controlled with fasting around 100 mg, PP 150 to 170 mg & HbA1c%<7, then taking 2 to3 dates occasionally is good enough. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, your blood sugar is really in excellent control. At 75 years, adding weight may become a bit difficult. But you might try taking some additional protein powder (ment for diabetes patient). Or increase your intake a bit, but that is likely to increase blood sugar level.

No permanent cure antibodies suggest that it is of aito-immune origin suggesting all the more that you will need treatment for long time its treatable not curable. You need to take thyronorm and follow up every 6 weeks.

Diabetes and Dental Health

Diabetes is a degenerative disease, which affects your metabolism. As a result of metabolic irregularities, every part of the body is affected. The following are early indications of untreated diabetes:

  • Increased thirst
  • Increased urination
  • Increased hunger

In addition to the ones above, the following are associated symptoms:

  • Blurred vision
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Slow healing of cuts
  • Itchy skin

How can diabetes affect your mouth?

  • Diabetes increases the risk of infections and delayed regeneration of damaged/dead cells. As a result, fungal infections like thrush may develop in your mouth.
  • Because of poor healing of wounds as a result of diabetes, extensive gum damage may occur.
  • Periodontitis is a severe effect of diabetes in which your gums begin to move away from your teeth, leading to a formation of pockets between your gums and teeth, which fill up with pus and germs. The damage can be stopped only with gum surgery and removal of affected teeth.

Prevention

The single most effective way to prevent damage to your teeth is to actively control blood sugar content by regularly taking medicines and following a healthy diet recommended by your doctor. Common methods of dental protection go a long way to help prevent oral problems because of diabetes. These include:

  • Brush thoroughly and carefully after every meal (wait 30 minutes for food acids to neutralize, and then brush as this helps in effective cleaning)
  • Use non-alcoholic mouthwash to treat dry mouth and disinfect the oral cavity
  • Floss at least once everyday
  • Use a soft bristled toothbrush
  • Remove your dentures and clean them regularly. Do not sleep putting them on
  • Quit smoking, chewing tobacco and chewing gums with sugar in them
