Dear lybrate-user your food should be rich in nutritional value consisting of right amount of vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates and proteins. For strong bones and teeth take good amount of calcium. Also consult your nearby dentist for professional cleaning of your teeth and gums.

Is weed more dangerous than cigarettes? If it is then why and what are the side effects? Because some people usually say weed is a stressbuster.

Dear lybrate-user. Weed is not as dangerous as cigarette with regards to health consequences. But it is more addictive and therefore in long run more dangerous for mental health. Quit both weed and cigarette. Take care.

My memory is temprary when I learn somthing then after some time I forgot everything so I need your help how could I increase my memory power?

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
If your level of stress is too much it can affect your memory. Although concentration is different to memory, they can affect each other. Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night?s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, broccoli, blueberries, fish, coconut oil, wheat sprouts, tomatoes, sunflower seeds, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling.

Stage fear happens to everyone, even those accustomed to public speaking. One of the ways to overcome it is to rehearse whatever you are going to talk about. Try rehearsing in front of the mirror. You will become aware of your body language and expressions, and will learn how to improve on them. Frequent rehearsals before any event will help you. Other than that, free yourself from the burden of other people's opinions. Not everyone has the courage to get up on stage and speak, but anyone can sit in audience and mock the speaker. Be indifferent to other's criticism, and only focus on improving yourself. If anxiety is overwhelming and you find yourself feeling low even things are going well, consult a psychiatrist. Medication can be prescribed to help with that. Also try some deep breathing techniques, especially before going on stage. Other than all this, indulge in some enjoyable activity and exercise everyday. You can consult me further, if required.

Dear lybrate user, welcome to lybrate. General anxiety disorder treatment consists of cognitive behavioral therapy, life style changes, relaxation therapy and meditation. Once you learn how to manage your anxiety yourself with the help of the above treatment methods, you will be cured and you can stop the medicines if any. The process could take some time according to the depth of the problem and the circumstances at which the patient lives. Take care.

Dear user. I can understand. Your mind's job is to think. If you allow you to think without having control over it, it will always wander into negative territories. You should train yourself to keep your thoughts under your control. Cognitive therapy will help you in this case. Take care.

You require medicines from a psychiatrist to calm you down plus cognitive behavior therapy from a good psychologist. The sessions with a psychologist will continue for quite some time. You may try medicines from patanjali chikitsalaya. You practice all that is taught daily on astha channel 5.00 to 7.30 am. Very very effective- esp anulom-vilom and bramri and udgit. You will get miraculous results for free and without adverse effects of allopathic medicines and will gain good physical and mental health, increase in your stamina, good concentration, improved memory, etc. It is excellent to drive depression, negative thinking out of your system. Not necessary, you have to be present in front of your tv at 5 am. Begin by switching on your tv just whatever time you get up and start practicing as being taught. Gradually when you regulate your sleeping time, you will be able to get up next morning at 5 and will be able to do complete workout. The time you spend here will actually be an investment that will remove tension, stress, etc. Leading to increased positivity.

I am aged 19 years. I doesn't have any girlfriend. By this while seeing my friends who had girlfriends I'm getting some kind of angriness .what should I do to be happy without any problems?

M.Sc - Psychotherapy
Psychologist, Bangalore
It's good that you don't have girl friends. Having a girl friend is inviting problems. It's time for you to study, concentrate on that and aim to achieve a goal in your life. Have friends, talk to them casually. Don't give too much importance. It's not an imp issue, don't waste your time thinking like this.

How Relationship Counsellor Can Help You?

How Relationship Counsellor Can Help You?

Marriage is perhaps the most important relation in an adult’s life. That’s why it needs extra care and attention, especially when things are not exactly gung ho. This is where marriage or marital therapy comes in.

Marriage counseling is the process of counseling the married couple to recognize and to reconcile or at least manage differences and repeating patterns of stress upon the marital relationship.

Basic practices of marital therapy

  1. The basic practices of marital therapy focus primarily on the process of communicating. Counselors use a method called active listening.
  2. Another method used is called “Cinematic immersion”. Both these methods have one important thing in common- they help counselors create a safe environment where each partner can express feelings and hear the feelings of the other.
  3. Emotionally focused therapy for couples or EFT-C is also used. This is based on attachment theory and uses emotion as an agent of change and target, both.
  4. Behavioral couples’ therapy is another method used. It is actually a proven way out of marital discord. This method focuses on integrating the twin goals of acceptance and change for couples in therapy.

The successful couples usually make concrete changes to accommodate the needs of the partner and also show greater emotional acceptance of the other.

Role of the relationship counselor
A couple therapist is usually someone with a degree in psychiatry or counseling. And her primary role is to listen, understand and facilitate better communication between the couple. The counselor also:

  1. Provides a confidential tete-a tete, which normalizes feelings
  2. Enables each partner to be heard and to hear themselves
  3. Works as a mirror to reflect the marriage’s difficulties to the partners
  4. Outlines the potential and direction for change
  5. Delivers important information
  6. Improves communication
  7. Identifies the repetitive, negative interaction cycle that drives a problematic marriage as a pattern
  8. Understands the source of emotions behind that negative pattern
  9. Re-organizes these key emotional responses to offset the pattern
  10. Creates new patterns of interaction
  11. Increases emotional attachment between partners

When should you seek marital therapy?

  1. When you avoid communicating or your communication has become negative- This usually means bad language, verbal abuse, and sometimes physical abuse.
  2. When you or your partner have sought out other sexual partners – Marital therapy can save a marriage after an affair if both partners want and work out the kinks in their relationship.
  3. Lack of intimacy in the marriage- This is the stage when partners just occupy the same space without communication, or exchange of feelings or touch.

Marriage counseling is a long process. And another thing to remember is that it can’t save a marriage that is unsalvageable. So, go in for marital therapy with an aim to do what’s the best for you and your partner.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
