Am smoking person. Am smoking past 10 years. Now I want to stop the smoking habit. Advice me.

M.Phill
Psychologist, Chennai
Start your stop smoking plan with start s- set a quit date: choose a date within the next 2 weeks, so you have enough time to prepare without losing your motivation to quit, if you mainly smoke at work, quit on the weekend, so you have few days to adjust to the change. T- tell family, friends and co-workers that you plan to quit: let your friends and family in on your plan to quit smoking and tell them you need their support and encouragement to stop. Look for a quit buddy who wants to stop smoking as well. You can help each other get through the rough times. A- anticipate and plan for the challenges you'll face while quitting: most people who begin smoking again do so within the first 3 months. You can help yourself make it through by preparing ahead for common challenges, such as nicotine withdrawal and cigratte cravings. R- remove cigrattes & other products from your home, car and work: throw away all of your cigarettes, lighter, ashtrays and matches. Wash your clothes and freshen up anything that smells like smoke. T- talk to your doctor about getting help to quit: your doctor can prescribe medication to help with withdrawal.

You are making it worse for yourself if you do not get attention soon. Psychiatrists are not bad people and they can help you a lot when the going is tough. Since you are troubled by these doctors, go visit a counselor instead in the beginning and I am sure that person will recommend some medical help too. Having a counselor's support may make you feel better about them and medication and you will experience some support. Any way counseling must continue for a long time to be of benefit to you. I think that you are very depressed and need help soon. There is something troubling you emotionally, tremendously. I suspect it has to do with anger. Your life is very precious and for some frivolous reason that you think is insurmountable, you want to end life. And the pressure is building up with no solution in sight. Do you see how untrue all this is?! When you do therapy please explore what in your past could have affected you in this manner. Depression makes you want to withdraw, lie down, sleep, become lethargic, slow down, makes you too lazy to even think etc. You will need to fight this disease. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, and wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, eat more of proteins and vegetables, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch a lot of sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. I hope you can find someone to love and be loved too. Whatever happens please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three things lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings.

The end of a relationship often feels like the end of the world. After all the time and energy you have invested in it, it is very painful when it gets over. Keep in mind that life is full of ups and downs; nothing is permanent. The pain you feel today will go away with time. Give yourself time to heal. Give time, time. In the meanwhile don't isolate yourself from your friends and family. Confide in someone you are comfortable with. Make a list of life goals, and plan how to achieve them. Relationships are an important part of your life, but they are not everything. Spend time with those close to you, indulge in some enjoyable activities. Keep yourself busy. Slowly you will see that there is a lot to life. However if you are feeling suicidal, consult a psychiatrist immediately. Don't wait to feel worse.

Dear lybrate user, the medicines will certainly give some relief to your wife. But it will be symptomatic. The moment the effect of the medicine wears out, she might get the same feelings again. If she is feeling very sad and axious, please take her to a counsellor. She will be able to relieve her stress by talking to the counsellor and the counsellor will help her to modify her thought processes. Once she expresses her feelings, her anxiety will reduce. If any further assessments are required, the counsellor will guide you. Take care.

Along with medicine. It it better to practice yoga and meditation. First introspect yourself what is your personal problems it is rectified or not. Or you may have share it to others. Internal problems and internal frustration may also cause for excessive anger. First clear your internal feelings in a healthy manner to share to closed then you do not have any type of anger. Sharing is the best solution for your problem. Ok best of luck.

What is the best medicine to quite Smoking and improve low desire about Alcohol? Need urgent medicine to quit smoking.

MBBS, DPM
Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Dear Vinayak, Congratulations for deciding to quit smoking. It needs your continued motivation to be free from nicotine. Try and see (better write them down) the benefits of quitting vs harm of smoking. Plan to buy something you always wanted to have, from the money that you may collect by quitting smoking. Fix quit day, emotionally tagged. List out the places of non smoking and expand them. Maintain these for 12 weeks, you will be successful. If withdrawal symptoms make you to lapse, try with decreasing dose of nicotine gum over 12 weeks. They are available without any prescription. if you are lapsing frequently, DO NOT lose hopes. Come online for 12 weekly motivational enhancement therapy. All the best, Vinayak.

Trusting a friend is good to some extent. But, too much of the same will lead you to dependancy which may cause problems like yours. It seems to me that your social network is small and shallow. Try to share your common issues like emotions, likes and dislikes, view and ideas not only with that particular friend, but also with other friends. And relatives/parents. Try to use separate beds and maintain a distance between your friend. Get married as soon as possible. You will automatically be diverted and be free. Attachment gives pain, whereas detachment gives emotional freedom.

Hello sirr. I'm dheeraj from mandla Not perfect my english plzzz help me sirrr I want to concentrate any how any way.

Ph. D - Psychology, Professional Certified Coach
Psychologist, Ahmedabad
Concentration is a mental skill that you can develop. There are two ways to improve your concentration: first, raise your brain's natural ability to concentrate. In other words, increase your attention. Second, adjust the environment around you to make concentrating easier. To improve your concentration takes a little time and effort, but it can be worth it. In my personal experience with students. This can make noticeable improvement in a relatively short time. Ideas for daily concentration-boosting habits include: mindfulness meditation - many studies confirm that 20 minutes of meditation or more per day improves concentration and attention span. Focusing on your breathing, known as mindfulness meditation, is one of the simplest way of meditation. Start with ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes before bed. Proper sleep -i am sorry to say it. Pulling all nighter will not help with your grade. Unless you are getting sufficient restful sleep, you are not going to be as mentally focused as you could be. Brain game -. The more you use certain skills, the more they are reinforced in the brain. So it makes sense that playing concentration games and games that require you to focus will improve your concentration ability. You need to be consistent in this. Play for about 10 to 20 minutes each day. Have fun, and get the benefits but remember not to spend more than 20 minutes a day. Your goal is to improve your concentration and not the score in the game! eat healthier - your brain needs the proper nutrients to allow you to focus. Eat more vegetables and fruits and avoid consumption of junk food as much as possible. Lot of research has now proven that sugar is very harmful for our health. Reduce sugar and refined white floor in your diet as much as you could. Exercise is helpful in both reducing stress and increasing focus. At-least 20 minutes a day would go a long way. Optimize your mental state & environment in addition to building the habits described above into your daily routine, also adjust your environment and your current mental state to improve your concentration when studying. Create a study spot. Your brain loves routine. Create a place where all you do is study. An obvious choice is a secluded desk of some kind, but the trick is to make sure you only study in that spot. Studying in bed is a bad habit, for example, because your body is trained to want to sleep once you get into bed. Remove distractions. Turn off the ringer on your phone and take other steps to prevent interruptions. Don't study with the television on or with talk radio playing. Some studies have shown that soft instrumental music (no vocals) can help improve your concentration. Block background noises. If you have to study or work in an environment where it is too loud (classroom or open space) or too quiet (such as at home or at a library) you can get easily distracted by outside influences. With the right amount of background noise you can actually block out distractions and enhance your creative thinking. Use time boxes. Set a time limit when you need to study new material. For example, let's say you want to read one chapter in a book (and remember it). Decide in advance that you can have 45 minutes to read the chapter, and 15 minutes to review it. Set a timer to keep yourself honest, then pace yourself to keep within the allotted time. Stay motivated with rewards. If you see studying as burden, it's hard to concentrate. One way to stay motivated is to set up a reward system. Tell yourself you have to earn that hour of watching your favorite show later in the evening by first completing one hour of intense studying. That way, even if the material is dry, you have the reward to look forward to. Take a break every two hours. You mental energy will begin to decline after a long period of study. So every two hours or so, take a ten minute break. Walk around, eat a light snack, or just stare at the wall to relax your mind. Concentrating is the first step to learning anything new. It only makes sense that if you improve your concentration, your memory will improve also. Hope this helps, wishing you very best,
