I have taken speech therapy one year ago . I become well . But once again stammer . Now a days I do regular practice what ever touched during speech therapy and do yoga from a week but still stammer . And stammer more when I talk to father . Whether he is soft towards me . Sometimes I also fear from talk on phone and moving in market , I fear from people at market for talk . And I think I stammer. Sometimes I went in mental depression.

Hi, you definitely need to see a psychologist for help. Tell your parents frankly that you have been advised to consult a psychologist for curing the stammer. Am sure, they too will want it cured. Do not worry, with right treatment it can be cured fully. They teach ujjai pranayaam- a breathing exercise for stammer. No harm in doing, but must do alongwith watching on tv for correct procedure. In general, the program if watched and followed will do you tremendous good. God bless you!

Yes, it s a type of social phobia. If it happens only during seminars, you can take anxiolytics 2 hours before the seminar. Consult a psychiatrist for the same. Behavior therpay approach can also help. All the best.

Dear Lybrate user. In many of the cases Stammering has two important reasons. Vocal chord misalignment or other problems are the primary reason. For this vocal chord complaint, you should consult an ENT specialist and get it corrected. Second reason is purely psychological. Stammer therapy can help you in psychological reasons. Take care.

Some times due to overuse of vocal cords can lead to vocal abuse. To treat so just give rest to your vocal cords, use warm saline water to gargle twice a day, you can sip warm drink as it soothes your throat, you can try steam inhalation too. But if it persist for long or associated with other symptoms like severe pain, sore throat etc consult an ENT specialist for the same.

Hi, I have stuttering due to anxiety, mine is altogether a different kind of stuttering from that I have seen in other stutterers. I don't always stutter, it's only when I think about it the problem comes in, whenever I'm not conscious about it, I don't have any problem, whenever I'm heavily engaged in some work or if I'm really concentrated in something I don't stutter. When ever Im to deliver a public speech this fear from within kicks in and I stutter. I tried different ways to contain it, but some methods have bee n counter productive, Is there any solution for this problem? I have heard that stuttering can't be cured entirely, but I have not been a stutterer throughout my life, I had stuttering during my lower school, high school I did not have that much of a problem. In my college days, problem started again, and now Im working in a company, I'm in my worst ever state now. Please help me in getting rid of this. Thanks,

Stammering is typically recognised by a tense struggle to get words out. This makes it different from the normal non-fluency we all experience which includes hesitations and repetitions. Commonly it involves repeating or prolonging sounds or words, or getting stuck without any sound (silent blocking). Sometimes people put in extra sounds or words. Often people lose eye contact.
Some people who stammer talk their way round difficult words so that you may not realise they stammer at all. This avoidance of words, and avoidance of speaking in some or many situations, is an important aspect of stammering.
Stammering varies tremendously from person to person and is highly variable for the person who stammers who may be fluent one minute and struggling to speak the next.
Get an mri brain and eeg with a psychiatrist evaluation.

Dear lybrate-user, welcome to lybrate. Stammering is" speaking with sudden involuntary pauses and a tendency to repeat the initial letters of words" or" say something with difficulty, repeating the initial letters of words and with sudden involuntary pauses" stammering could be due to two reasons. First reason is vocal cord misalignment. Second is psychological performance anxiety. First of all you should consult an ent specialist and evaluate your vocal chords. If there is problem, ent specialist will be able to correct it. If there is no problem with your vocal chords, you should consult a psychologist for stammer therapy. Take care.

Hi, I'm suffering from stuttering which makes me to feel uncomfortable while speaking to my colleagues and friends. Request you give me a tips / suggest a medical treatment to get rid of this problem permanently. Thanks in advance.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Stammering can be made lesser only and only by Speech therapy. So you should take the help of a speech therapist. Also, I'd suggest you to visit a Psychologist as confidence plays a great role in dealing with this problem. I'd suggest you to speak very slowly, word by word. People may make fun of this but believe me, slowly you'll get better at it. Hope your query is answered. Feel free to ask if you have any doubts. Wishing you good health.

Hello, first of all how old is he. Second young kids of 3 n 4 years old often appear to stutter but be careful about what you classify the problem as. Stuttering appears in kids n disappears after some time. If you feel your son stutters a lot consult a speech therapist in person. Regards.

I am fifty years old active working women. Before I can sing a song nicely. But past one year, I am not able to speak also. My voice is low and it is not clear now. What is the solution for it. I am always having curd. Do not ask me to avoid curd.

Hello, if you are saying you cannot sing properly, that would still be okay, but if you are saying you cannot speak also properly. Then it's high time you should visit an ent specialist. Once after check up is done if there is no problem. Then take up your singing issue. Till then first take care of your voice.
