By baby does not poop for 3+ days and she cries every time she poops. The poop is hard and may be causing her pain to pass it out. We tried various foods for her, but same result. For 2/3 days she poops regularly, then again the same symptom. He also drinks less water, no matter how much we try. What can the problem. How can this be solved?

Try giving gripe water regularly and For constipation I will suggest to eat food with high fiber content like green leafy vegetables and can also eat bananas at bedtime as it is effective as a laxative

Hi, in the first few weeks, you may notice that your baby's genitals are swollen and red, or that she has a clear, white, or slightly bloody discharge from her vagina. This is normal. It happens because she was exposed to your hormones when she was in your womb (uterus). If you want, you can consult a paediatrician to know more about it.

I am having a one year old baby boy. He is not eating anything besides needed milk by his mother. What should we do?

Hi lybrate-user, please limit the intake of milk including breast milk up to just two times a day and give him semisolid every approx 3hrs for around 20 min. Do not force him up but be firm on giving semisolid or solid only. With around 2-3 week he will start taking food on his own.

See These Signs Often In Your Kid - It's Time You Visit A Pediatrist!

Your child needs complete care whether it is emotional, psychological or physical. A thorough evaluation of your child’s body and mind is vital at nascent stages. Especially if you observed any complaints by your little one that may require medical help, such as:

1. Frequent headaches
Much like adults, children too can experience headaches that last from 30 minutes to 3 hours. A range of primary or secondary headaches like, migraine, meningitis, sinusitis or tension may affect children due to neurological issues.

2. Blurry vision
If you observe either a vision developmental delay or near-sightedness and farsightedness in your child, it might be related to neurological issues.

3. Slurred Speech
If your child is 7-8 months and is not responding to sounds or cannot babble non-sense words, it calls for a neurological check-up.

4. Motor and Co-ordination Delay
Sometimes babies are unable to perform motor skill activities like crawling, walking or using fingers to grip or hold, such delay requires attention of the parent.

5. Fatigue
Check if your kid has become lazy and decreased his physical activities due to fatigue and tiredness suddenly of late.

6. Abnormal Movements
Common involuntary movements or tics like eye blinking, twitching of nose, grimacing or making sounds is in some cases overlooked. Tourette syndrome is an example of such a tic, which has been evaluated as a neurological issue.

7. Tremors or Seizures
Children are prone to febrile seizures (fits) or tremors along with fever that occur between 6 months and 5 years. These are signs of neurological issues that require an immediate check-up.

8. Numbness in Limbs
Neurological complications in your child’s infancy may also cause joint pain and numbness of arms and legs.

9. Behavioural disorders
A change in behaviour or attitude in your child is noticed if he/she is suffering from attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, school problems, sleep issues, intellectual disability or other neural conditions.

10. Weakness
This symptom is tricky in children, as it may be confused with general tiredness by your human eye. It may be unheard of but many children face trouble in performing easy tasks. A neurological exam may identify the source for treatments.

An underlying problem to the nervous system can cause harm or impairment in the normal growth and development of your kid. Early diagnosis helps in correct care, recovery and prevention of long-term problems. You can opt for a routine neurological examination if you find such symptoms in your child. These exams check the functioning of your child’s brain, spinal cord, nerves that come from the brain and spinal cord and offers accurate diagnosis. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Pediatrician.

If baby is fed properly since birth, 6 kg must be at the age of about 5 months. It is obvious that either baby has not been fed since birth or he has not been given proper food at the start of weaning. Proper diet details is lacking in your description. Any way, give him solids food well cooked and prepared at home. Add complementary dairy milk three times in a day to his requirement. I am sure baby is not suffering from any ailment.

Troubled Breathing - Can It Be a Sign of Asthma?

dnb pediatrics
Pediatrician,
Troubled Breathing - Can It Be a Sign of Asthma?

Is your child getting exhausted after a bout of cough? Does he or she suffer from constant wheezing and tightness of the chest? Does your child feel drained out after climbing a flight of stairs? Do you know a child who always seems to run out of breath and cannot participate in school sports tournaments or play outside for a long time? The child could be suffering from asthma, which is a serious breathing problem. Most children are affected by asthma. Staying in a polluted city just makes the condition worse.

Asthma - Know the disease

  1. Asthma is a condition that causes inflammation of the airways, known as trachea and bronchioles.
  2. The muscles around the airways constrict and prevent the smooth flow of air.
  3. The lining of the bronchioles swell and block the airways.
  4. Asthma is mostly triggered by an allergic reaction.
  5. There is a difficulty in breathing out. Exhalation of air is often accompanied by a wheezing, that is, a whistling sound.
  6. There is a constant shortness of breath, feeling out of breath and gasping for air.
  7. There is an uncomfortable tightness in the chest, the feeling of not breathing in enough air.
  8. Coughing bouts in the middle of the night, that leave the child feeling exhausted and completely out of breath.

Causes of Asthma

Asthma is mostly triggered by asthma allergens. These allergens are mostly pollens and animal fur.

  1. Exposure to pollution, such as dust and smoke
  2. Heredity
  3. Obesity
  4. History of heartburn, GERD and acid reflux
  5. Inflammation of sinus and airways
  6. History of bronchial disorders and pneumonia
  7. Viral infections
  8. Chronic rhinitis
  9. Low immunity causing constant cold and blockage of nose

Treatments of asthma

  1. A nebulizer that turns asthma medicine into a mist can then be inhaled easily
  2. An inhaler can be used to take in inhaled steroids into the lungs or a bronchodilutor
  3. Try and avoid asthma triggers and allergens as much as possible
  4. Avoid physical stress and heat
  5. Get sufficient rest of about 7-8 hours every day

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a pulmonologist.
