My friend is a struggling director in the film industry, and has no income. He is having severe anxiety and depression disorder. And he's been suppressing it for a year or more. His family is in a horrible shape to support him for doctor's appointments and medicines. Neither do I have anything to help him. It's getting worse day by day. Every night he feels like as though he is going to die. Apart from his family really not being able to afford treatment, they do not understand why it is important to treat this, they don't understand the hell, and the severity of this. But I do as a year ago I had been through the same. What can be done?

There are a lot of social work organizations that help with free counseling and sometimes offer medications as well. If he contacts them he can get their support and seek professional help immediately. Any delay will only worsen his condition and he desperately needs timely help. If you are in a position to extend some financial help especially to meet the psychiatrist's help, it will go a long way. These visits are not so frequent and medication is a must, apart from the counseling. Therapy can be availed from the free counseling services that are surely available in your city. In the meantime please guide him with these guidelines to do the following sincerely because he could resolve the problem better with good cooperation: Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber, nuts, avocado, exercise regularly, eat dark chocolate, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. I suggest you do the opposite of what this depression makes you feel like doing (actually, not doing): you will need to fight this condition. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, attend Yoga classes etc. Watch sitcoms on TV or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least, 30 minutes but not in the scorching heat. Whatever happens, please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in God to alleviate your sufferings. Don’t wait for others to help. Use your own motivation, which might be at its lowest, but persevere and win this battle. Above all to be really happy, you need to live in love and for love. Learn all about emotions and how to handle them and that will get you out of the depression rather easily and quickly. A counselor is there only to facilitate you, all the hard word must come from you, and your cooperation with that person is very critical for your success. Be positive every day and learn to be contented with what you have. Do some left brain exercises: it is the happy brain. Here are a few suggestions: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. Whatever happens please cooperate with the therapy and do not discontinue until the condition is completely resolved.

I had recently take thyroid test and in my report T3, T4 results are normal but TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) result is higher then the range it comes 9.64. Can this be the reason of my weight loss and what are other problems happens due to this?

Mr. lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. In hypothyroidism (with high TSH) there is weight gain. Plus other symptoms include early fatigue, tiredness, dry skin, dry hair and hair fall, swelling of face and lower limbs, muscle and joint pains, anxiety and even depression. Weight loss is rarely seen. Looking at your height and weight, it appears to be perfect. Thanks.

Knee 2 quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day.

To lose weight, you have to maintain an input-output ratio. Whatever food you eat contains the input calories which gives you the output calories in the form of energy. The other most important thing is to eat wisely. Try to cut down the excessive calories you are eating and make sure whatever you eat is healthy. Some tips to lose weight - 1. Have more fruits and vegetables than junk food and juices. 2. Avoid sugar as much as you can 3. Exercise 3-4 times a week. 4. Have an early dinner, preferably before 8 p. M. 5. Do not starve yourself. Eat small meals 5 times a day. 6. Have barley soup in dinner and avoid rice at night. 7. Drink lots of water daily.
