Hi take ginger tea mixed with 2-3 crushed garlic cloves. Massaging the chest with warm sesame oil mixed with salt helps to loosen the phlegm deposited in the chest, especially, when followed with steam inhalation. Take shwas kuthar ras twice a day. Pranacharya asthamin capsule 1-1 twice a day. And pranacharya shwas vikarasav 2-2 tsf twice a day. 1-1 drop of cow ghee in both nostrils at night time before sleep. Take hot water steam.

Based on this, you can create your own diet plan as the food choices of each person may vary and the items available to you may be different from what mentioned here. I have post nasal drip and gerd. I have just recovered from a severe cough. Now I keep on getting black-greyish mucus after some time. I am a moderate smoker. Should I be worried? My chest xray showed few dots but my doctor said it was nothing to worry about.

Hello Ishan, first of all stop smoking due to which your respiratory system will regain its immunity back. To improve your respiratory immunity have a good quality chyawanprash daily morning. Have plain water steam inhalation for 2-5 minutes daily before going to sleep. Have home made ghee 2 teaspoons daily with Yashtimadhu churna 1 teaspoon after meals. This will take care of gerd also. Have fresh food always. Dont over eat. Avoid cold foods. All this will help.

As soon as you feel soreness in your throat, make it a point to gargle with salt dissolved in warm water. Haldi doodh: A traditional remedy that most people swear by is the use of hot milk with turmeric. It is shown to even have antibacterial properties. Heat a glass of milk, mix in half a teaspoon of turmeric powder and drink warm to get relief from cough

Avoiding cold as far as possible/ room heater/warm water/ keeping body warm always if you know what you r allergic to avoining that mainstay is immunotherapy. Find an allergologist to finf your allergen and build your immunity against the same so you would be free to avoid medicines and enjoy cold.

Good diet for swimming and how I can increase inspiratory reserve volume (IRV. So I can swim for long time without breathing problem.

General Physician, Kolkata
Hi lybrate-user its great to see such a term being used by the patient. You must be studying human biology really well:) coming to the point. Your breathing capacity will increase only through practice. The more you practise swimming, the more dedication you give, the more it will increase. It will not happen in a day. You can try yoga, and do some breathing exercises. For diet take lots of fruits and vegetables. I am not sure if you are a vegan. If not you can take chicken, fish, egg. But avoid red meat. And avoid fast food. There is no special diet for swimming. You just need to take a healthy balanced diet. And you being a good biology student, I am sure, you know what I mean by that.
