* if it is due to constant sitting at a particular posture, change posture and engage in slow walk. * walking regularly at slow pace without unduly straining helps as it improves blood circulation around knee and eases the joint. *you can use mustard oil for massage which is good in winter season for relieving pain. Eucalyptus oil is also good homoeopathy has a good treatment for this without adverse effects. Take bryonia 200---twice daily morning and evening and give feedback after 7 days

The Secret to Avoiding FRACTURES, Revealed by Dr. Kamal Bachani

The secret to avoiding bone and joint related injuries revealed!

An average person experiences two fractures during his or her lifetime and same holds true for joint related injuries. The severity of this condition depends on a number of factors, ranging from the forces responsible for injury and location to the damage done to the nearby tissues and bones.

How age plays a role in your chances of getting a fracture?

Your risk and severity of developing a fracture, depends, to a certain extent on your age.

A very common occurrence during childhood is crippling joint related injuries, the fractures that you tend to have during this time are generally less complex than the broken bone instances that you stand to experience when you enter adulthood.

With time, your bones become fragile and you become prone to broken bones sustained from falls, which you wouldn't when you were young. Furthermore, as you step into your 50th year, you can get struck by the bone condition osteoporosis, a leading cause of bone fractures during this time. For women, menopause makes them more susceptible to osteoporosis (as infrequent periods and hormonal changes at this time lead to loss of bone mass) and subsequently broken bones.

Preventing crippling joint injuries need many steps in younger generation known as prehab especially for sporting population and adult population involved in day to day activities requiring your body getting subjected to physical stress.

Simple steps to get your joints back to normal in case you do get into injuries.

  • having a calcium and vitamin d rich diet to strengthen bones
  • exercising to strengthen bone and muscle health as well as your balance
  • taking relevant medicines to make your bones strong
  • going for timely bone mineral density test to determine the health of your bone
  • exposing yourself to the sun for about 20 minutes everyday
  • having a requisite calcium intake of 1000 mg and 1200 mg for pre- and postmenopausal women respectively
  • preventing a fracture by modification in your household furniture, extra clothings, sometimes addition of simple orthotic devices, improving your muscle reaction time etc go in long way to help prevent falls.

My friend is suffering from lumbar spondylosis for the last 3 months. She consulted a doctor, but no positive response from the medications he referred. Now she is relying on exercises, massages and yoga. But still no recovery so far. I wish to ask whether she should go for medication or exercises or both. And also, is this disorder curable? If yes, then how?

BPT, MPT- Ortho
Physiotherapist, Delhi
Hello, for this prob you should go with medication and physiotherapy both in initial stage if you are feeling too much pain than pain relief medication will help you while the exercises will make your muscle strong so that there will not be any pain and problem. The time of recovery depends how much is the problem showing in MRI and patient is avoiding the things what he should in this condition but max range goes for 20-25 day but again it doesn't goes with every patient.

Hi. I have gone through a total hip replacement caused due to an accident. Its been an year now i have a discharge at times coming from the operated leg. How soon this should be treated and what are the complications?

DNB (Orthopedics), Diploma In Orthopaedics (D. Ortho), MBBS
Orthopedist, Chennai
If the wound is still discharging, then it's not good news. Tests need to be done to know if the hip replacement is infected. If confirmed, then the only way of controlling the infection is to remove the implants. Once infection is controlled, a revision hip can be done.

Here are some tips for how to handle your back pain: -stop normal physical activity for the first few days. This will help relieve your symptoms and reduce any swelling in the area of the pain. -apply heat or ice to the painful area. One good method is to use ice for the first 48 to 72 hours, and then use heat. Take pain relievers medicine. --while sleeping, try lying in a curled-up, fetal position with a pillow between your legs. If you usually sleep on your back, place a pillow or rolled towel under your knees to relieve pressure. -do not perform activities that involve heavy lifting or twisting of your back for the first 6 weeks after the pain begins. -avoid bending forward and sitting in a place for long time -stretching and strengthening exercises are important. But, starting these exercises too soon after an injury can make your pain worse. -some physiotherapy treatment like ift can give you some relief. -a physical therapist can tell you when to begin stretching and strengthening exercises and how to do them.

Hello send me your all investigation reports if it is available. Its probably due to lumbar and cervical disc prolapse. Till then follow these advice to decrease pain and stiffness- 1- avoid twisting of back. 2- avoid heavy lifting. 3- avoid squatting position. 4- use western toilet. 5- wear shock absorbing, good quality shoes. 6. Keep roll of a towel under your neck not under your head while sleeping. 7. Perform some gentle exercises before getting out of your bed. Knee movements can be improved by a key hole surgery (arthroscopic arthrolysis) if he is not benefiting from physiotherapy.

If you have fever then its quite normal to have back pain. But if their is no fever then the pain could be due excessive coughing. If there is a slipped disc then coughing can increase the pain.

General Physician,
At present there is no cure for any of the mucopolysaccharide diseases.Enzyme replacement therapy (ERT)has been approved by the FDA for several of the MPS diseases, but ERT has not been shown to be effective in MPS III. Bone marrow transplants have been tried on individuals with MPS III, but with disappointing results. Gene therapy, chaperone therapy and intrathecal enzyme therapy are a few of the treatments for MPS III where research is ongoing
