High uric acid levels can damage joints and give kidney stones. Consult your doctor to get evaluation by checking x- ray of knee joint and some blood test. Good luck!

Muscle pain with running can be managed by simple measures at home. 1. Avoid running for few days till pain is relieved. 2. Apply cold pack on painful muscles four times a day for 10 mins each. 3. Take healthy diet with calcium supplements. Consume at least 2.5 litres of fluids in a day in form of water, juices, lemonade etc. 4. Avoid alcohol or smoking. 5. If you are on any medication like statins or diuretics consult with your physician as these drugs can cause muscle pain. 6. You can take simple analgesics like paracetamol if pain is severe and apply analgesic cream. 7. Do muscle stretching exercises daily and before running. 8. Once pain is decreased you can start running by gradually increasing the distance and speed. Wear good quality running shoes and avoid running on hard ground or treadmill. If problem persists consult again.

Elbow Pain - Know The Causes!

MBBS, MS - Orthopaedics, Hand Surgery Fellowship
Orthopedist, Delhi
Elbow Pain - Know The Causes!

Elbow pain is a common problem affecting people. The elbow gives your hand the necessary flexibility to perform a lot of important activities such as to pick up or throw things. An elbow pain, if severe can affect a lot of these activities. Thus, if the pain gets uncomfortable and persists for long, you should consult an Orthopedic at the earliest. Different factors can trigger the elbow pain in different people. Thus, to make the treatment effective, it is first important to find out the underlying cause of the pain.

The three major ligaments that hold the elbow bones together are:

  1. Ulnar-Collateral Ligament or the Medial Collateral Ligament.
  2. Lateral Collateral Ligament or the Radial Collateral Ligament.
  3. Annular Ligament.

Any injury, disorder or damage to the elbow bones, ligaments, cartilage or tendons can result in an elbow pain. Some of the common factors and medical conditions that can give rise to an elbow pain include:

  1. Tennis Elbow: Tennis Elbow became famous, all thanks to the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar, who suffered from this condition. Continued use of the arm in a particular motion can stress the tendons at the Extensor Carpi Radialis Brevis (ECRB) muscle (located at the end of the elbow) which may suffer from tears. If left untreated, what started as a small tear will give rise to an inflammation affecting the full arm. The condition can be so painful that a person is unable to lift or hold anything.
  2. Injury to the Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL): The UCL is of the three major ligaments that hold the elbow bone in position, thereby controlling the joint movement. Increased and repetitive stress and pressure to the ULC, particularly children and adults who are into baseball (baseball pitchers) can result in ligament tear. Negligence will only worsen the injury with an excruciating elbow pain.
  3. Little League Elbow Syndrome: This syndrome is also found to be common among the young baseball players especially the pitchers. Little League Elbow Syndrome results from overuse of the elbow (while throwing the ball) which can cause inflammation of the Medial Epicondyle (the growth plate located at the end of the elbow). The Little Leaguer’s Elbow can leave the person with chronic elbow pain.
  4. Elbow Arthritis: Another condition that can trigger an elbow pain is the arthritis of the elbow. There may be inflammation in the elbow joint, resulting in pain, swelling, and stiffness. A person also experiences difficulties in moving the elbow, including straightening and bending it. An injury or inflammation of the biceps and the triceps (the muscles that cross the elbow), due to strenuous physical exercise or activities can also cause pain and discomfort in the elbow.
  5. Cubital Tunnel Syndrome: The Ulnar Nerve is present on the inner side of the elbow. Compression of this nerve resulting from leaning on the elbow over and over again can cause numbness and pain in the elbow, a condition known as Cubital Tunnel Syndrome.

In addition to these, an elbow pain can also be caused by a sprain, fracture, bone dislocation, and tenosynovitis (inflammation of the tendon sheath), to name a few.

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Homeopathy Treatment For Ankylosing Spondylitis

BHMS, Certificate course from University of Pennsylvania
Homeopath, Kolkata
Homeopathy Treatment For Ankylosing Spondylitis

The backbone (spine) has smooth movement with smooth intervertebral disks. However, this fluid movement can be limited due to arthritis, which can happen due to many reasons – genetic to age to injury to infection to tumors. The lower back has two sets of spinal disks – sacral and iliac. This sacroiliac region has an elastic vertebral tissue. This could be gradually replaced with hard bone, which can cause fusion between the disks. Such a condition is known as ankylosing spondylitis (fusing disk spaces), which is a type of arthritis.

The typical symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis (AS) are morning pain and stiffness in the low back and upper buttocks, which gradually decrease as the day goes by. The symptoms usually start and continue to gradually worsen over a period of 3 to 6 months. In severe cases, there could be spinal fractures, but in most cases, pain, stiffness and reduced movement are the main complaints.

Why homeopathy for AS (Ankylosing spondylitis)?

Major benefits of homeopathy could be summarized as under:

  1. It addresses altered immune system, treating the roots of this autoimmune disease.

  2. It helps in pain control without side effects.

  3. It aims at disease control.

  4. It is absolutely safe even if used for a long time.

Homeopathic medicines are prescribed on the basis of individual case evaluation by taking into account patient’s genetic, immunological and psychological parameters. It is safe and effective as a long-term therapy. It reduces pain, improves mobility and most importantly, controls the disease. It has no adverse effects.

Homeopathy helps AS patients by acting on the immune system, which is usually overactive in these people. Depending on the presenting symptoms, the doctor will prescribe a customized regimen for the patient.

  1. Rhus Tox: This is the first medicine of choice when the patient experiences sacral/lumbar area pain that is worse at rest, with sitting, or after a period of inactivity. The pain radiates down the legs to the foot. Walking or any other activity/motion provides relief from the pain.

  2. Aesculus: This is indicated in patients who have extremely painful and stiff low back and hips. The pain is a constant ache and there is discomfort with trying to rise from a seat, stooping, and walking, where greater effort is required. There is a feeling that the legs would give way, adding to resistance while walking.

  3. Kalmia: This is used in patients where the back pain and stiffness are accompanied by a warm, numb, and prickly sensation. Low back pain and neck pain is associated with a burning sensation. The pain appears in sudden bursts in the early parts of the night and travels down the arm or up into the scapula.

  4. Kali Carb: This is indicated where there is extreme weakness along with AS symptoms of pain and stiffness in the lumbosacral back area. The patient feels like he is going through a paralytic attack and must lie down to rest. This is a feeling similar to a broken back, and can extend up into the neck or down to the legs. The symptoms are more severe in the early morning hours. Changing positions in the bed worsens the pain.

If you or someone else is suffering from AS symptoms, give homeopathy a try. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a homeopath.
