Why Oral Health in Older Adults Is Important

It is said that oral health is the best indicator of a person's health. A bad oral hygiene translates down to the rest of the organs, reflecting poor health. And, like all other organs of the body, the oral cavity also is aging and therefore, requires extra attention to maintain good health and requires longer time to heal and get back to its original state. So, as the old adage goes, prevention is better than cure.

The following are some reasons why oral health in older patients is very important:

  1. Food and nutrition: Be it a regular decay or rare cases of oral cancer, poor oral health means reduced food intake. In the elderly, the tissues supporting the teeth (periodontium) deteriorates, leading to loosening of teeth and inability to eat and chew food. This gets into a vicious cycle, and for the elderly, good healthy nutrition is very important for overall health. If decayed teeth and weak teeth are not allowing them to eat well, the overall health takes a toll too.
  2. Overall health: Poor oral health is associated with higher incidence of diabetes and heart disease. Also, in diabetics especially, the periodontal tissue is easily affected and prone to infection. This leads to not just tooth mobility, but also root caries. The incidence of abscess and cyst associated with root caries is much
  3. higher than decay in the crown portion of the tooth. The simple logic is that there is more tooth structure covering the crown than the root, and therefore, the decay reaches the pulp a lot more quickly.
  4. Medications and side effects: Dental pain, those who have experienced will swear to be one of the worst pains to go through. And in old age, it is something that is best avoided. So, better oral care and hygiene measures become all the more important. Once pain sets in, the antibiotics and painkillers become necessary, bringing with them a host of side effects.

Simple Management tips:

  1. Brush twice a day using fluoridated toothpaste
  2. Rinse with each meal with a mouthwash is possible, else with plain water
  3. Floss regularly to prevent interdental caries 
  4. Routine bi-annual visits to the dentist, especially if you are prone for decay or have dry mouth. Whether it is a small decay or a lesion, the dentist will be able to detect it early and arrest and/or treat it
  5. Don't ignore lumps or sore throat that is persistent 
  6. Quit smoking, use of tobacco (if applicable) 
  7. Healthy diet that is rich in fiber 

To avoid the vicious cycle of dental symptoms and complications and their effect on general health, it is advisable to do some basic hygiene measures.

You are perfectly healthy. You PP sugar is on borderline. So reduce your meals by half. Walk for one hour everyday. Check sugar again after every month. You may be prone for diabetes. If you take extra care, you may be able to prevent it.

I have a migration problem I have always a headache in my body and I have also pain with a stomach everyday what should I have do?#

Headache can be due to gastric upset.It seems as if you are bothered with irregularities of your bowel habbits. Let me tell you how can your digestive system be regularized. First of all have a look at your life style. Regular sleep and dietary habbits, in most of cases do suffice. Any addictions, may be smoking, drinking, tobacco chewing etc. also have bad effects on digestion. In addition, compulsorily mixed type of salad must be present at each time when you eat.Add fruits of season to lunch. Extra effort for the problem may be taken in the form of 2 spoons of honey added to half a cup of Lukewarm water every morning empty stomach is excellent remedy. A week or so, if followed the above, still persistent, medicines may be prescribed. Not now. Hope satisfied Regards

Good Evening Sir, The reports which I? Ve enclosed with this mail, all belongs to my father aged 69 years. He is a patient of Bypass Surgery which was done in the year 2003. After that he was quiet well. But last year in the months of May 2015 our family physician detected a tumor in his colon. So he had gone through a surgery in the mount of july 2015 by an on co surgeon, where doctor created his tumor and done elostomy. The biopsy report of the tumor is, T3mn0. After the surgery he had gone through radiotherapy for 25 days, and also taken Chemotherapy (5Fv 5000) 1st is D1-D5, 2nd c2 D1-D5. After six months our doctor asked for a colonoscopy, and he said all are reports ok, now he had gone through his Colostomy closure. On December 12th2015 Colostomy clause. The fact is that after Colostomy closure he is facing several problems. He is facing an acute problem is gas and indigestion. However he is an diet chart and avoiding Vegetables, Milks Products, Spicy food, As per our doctors advised. More Over He does not have any control on his stool pass out. We have discussed with the surgeon as well as oncologist, and gastroenterologist they prescribed the following medicines1. Tab. IBSET once a day2. Tab. LIBRAX AFTER DINER3. Tab. zinconia 50 AFTER BREAKFAST4. Tab. GLYCOMET GP1MG BEFORE BREAK FAST5. Tab. NORMAXIN AFTER BREAK fasting spite of that his condition has not cured up. We have all become perplexed. That is why I am sending you this mails, with a hope that you will provide me a suggestion.

Let's concentrate on passing of stools first of all. Take powdered BAEL pulp, dry ginger powder and Isabgul husk in the ratio of 1 tsp: 1/4 tsp: 1 tsp. Mix in yogurt. Give morning, afternoon. Sex addiction can result from a lot of reasons. From coping with a mechanism to self-pleasure, beating loneliness to excess sex during the teen, anything can be a contributing factor. While the scientific community still does not pinpoint this as a disease, an increasing number of individuals are being identified who are suffering from an addiction to sex. While there is no quick fix to it, Ayurveda has ways that can address sex addiction and fix it for good:

  1. Food is essential: There should be razor sharp focus on eating. Sattvik Food such as curd, milk, bread, wheat, rice, sugar, milk is some of the best food items to curve sex addiction. Fruits such as apples, bananas, grapes, mangoes and pomegranates play rich dividends in checking sex addiction. Popular meal preparation such as Havishya Annam and Charu are extremely helpful in curtailing sex addiction.
  2. Food to avoid: In Ayurveda food items such as meat, eggs, fish are considered as detrimental as far as sex health is concerned. They tend to increase sex addiction. The meat of buffalo, sheep or goat increases sex drive in an individual.
  3. Breathing exercise: Pranayama or slow breathing is another excellent way to reduce sex addiction. This is slow release and intake of oxygen. An expert supervision is required when it is performed for the first time.
  4. Working out: Daily jogging, running, working out or simply walking will go a long way in ensuring that an individual cut down his sex addiction over a period. Working out helps to profoundly sweat and helps the organ perform better. Not to mention, it lifts a person’s mood and installs loads of positive energy.
  5. Avoid addiction: Any addiction be it smoking, drinking, substance, drugs or marijuana can be extremely detrimental. External stimulus not only increases sex addiction but proves to be hazardous for the body over the long term.
  6. Keep hydrated: Remaining hydrated throughout the day is important. Drinking water, fruit juice, and other non-sweet drinks prove to be very handy in cutting down sex addiction. However, it should be ensured to refrain from drinking carbonated drinks. They increase fat in the body and make a person lethargic.
  7. Quick meditation: While meditation sounds daunting at times, it is not that difficult to do it. Sitting down in a quiet place and counting numbers from 1 to 100 is also a form of meditation. The idea is to concentrate and keep the focus for a stretch of time. Meditation greatly helps a person to curb sex addiction by keeping the mind focused.
  8. Ayurvedic tonics: Ayurvedic items such as Ashwagandha, Brahmi, and turmeric can help to reduce sex addiction.

it may happen due to some minor infection may be viral in nature due to which you are not been able to breath to the fullest capacity of lung . do some deep breathing exercises regulatory have homemade freshly prepared lemon juice which is rich in vitamin C thereby increasing your body autoimmune system which prevents infection. go for regular morning walk followed by free hand exercises. take lotsvwater by mouths.

I am having anxiety for the last 3 years. I am taking clonotril 0.25 daily. How can I stop this medicine and come out from anxiety. I am also having acidity for last 9 years. I am taking esomeprazole 40 mg daily. Is there any permanent treatment of acidity.

Yes there is definitely a permanent treatment for acidity with the help of ayurvedic medicines. First you need to avoid eating junk foods and outside food completely. Stop oily, spicy, sour food. Avoid eating spicy non vegetarian food. Rather eat boiled or grilled chicken n fish. Start. Himcocid syp 2-2-2 chandrakala vati 2-2-2 avipattikar 1-1-1 saaraswataarishta kaadha 2spoons twice orally with equal quantity of warm water for your anxiety. Do not stop clonotril without your doctor's advice. May be you can request him to gradually reduce your dose after 3 months of my treatment. Do shirodhaara treatment in a renowned panchakarma centre.

Moderation should be the mantra. Doing more exercises can harm the body.
