In present life style, it has become a part and parcel, as we use, for example, tooth paste. But what is the alternative? That suggestion is not given. It will be highly appreciated, if right suggestion to alternative use of plastic bottles is well explained. D. Banerjee Pune (Maharashtra) Email: dlpbanerjee1950@gmail. Com.

No, plastic cover is not harmful until and unless it is poisonous by any external materials or materials adulterated to food. Plastic cover doesn't react chemically to food if any chemical reaction is there! it's colour or colour of foods automatically changed! and you shall reject it! as we reject the bad foods! thanks.

How to control saliva formation in empty mouth during singing? It disturbs me during singing as I have to stop in the middle to clear my throat.

BDS, MDS
Dentist, Gorakhpur
It seems you have excess saliva production (sialorrhea) .If so, you can take any one of these medications to reduce the flow. Scopolamine, glycopyrolate or botulinum toxin. You have to choose smartly as these medications can harm you after prolonged use and also compromise your oral hygiene. So it will be good to get a second opinion from a physician before starting medications. Hope it will help. THANK YOU.

My father in law is 63 years old. Nowadays he is facing burning sensation on the tongue. What is this and is the remedy.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
To avoid infection and reduce pain in a first-degree burn on the tongue: rinse the area well with cool water for a few minutes. Remove any dirt or particles that may be on the burn. Wet a clean cloth with cool water and hold it on top of the burn. Suck on ice chips or a popsicle to soothe the pain. Gargle with cool water or salt water. Avoid warm or hot liquids, which could irritate the burn. Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain and inflammation. Sprinkle a few grains of sugar on the tongue to relieve pain.

Keeping your mouth moist is very important. If, because of taking medicines your mouth feels dry, try increasing your fluid intake or  using an artifical saliva product or chewing a sugarless gum after a meal so as to keep your mouth from dryness and generate moisture.

Visit a dentist to get a scaling done to remove the stains, if the tooth is slightly discolored then bleaching (tooth whitening) is advised. If still the discoloration persists then veneers are the only option.

Pain killer and antibiotics will be suggested only after examining. Erupting wisdom tooth sometimes causes pain usually does not need any antibiotic. You can do warm saline rinse 3 or 4 times a day and visit to your dentist.
