Take Liquid Diet if you have loose motions:(ORS water, Coconut water, Sour Milk {Chhach - Lassi}, Green Moong Dal Liquid). Otherwise take semisolid food and plenty of fluids. Go for investigations: Typhidot IgM and Complete Hemogram - Upload your Investigation report soon for more help, You can start with Eupatorium Perf 200 - take it thrice daily (if you have faith in Homeopathy medicine). If there is Moderate to high grade fever then continue Antipyretic medicine along with Homeopathic Medicine. You can consult me in person online through Lybrate for more help.

I am a 30 year old married female. For past 2 months I am suffering from neck pain caused as a result of using double pillow. The xray observation says" minimal disc space reduction seen at C4-C5 and C5-C6" and" marginal posterior osteophytes are seen at C3 to C6 vertebrae" with conclusion as" F/s/o early cervical spondylosis with marginal disc space reduction at C4-C5, C5-C6" I would like to know what is the permanent cure for this apart from neck exercises and what preventive steps to be taken to lead a normal life.

Neurosurgeon, Mumbai
Hello Ms. Lybrate-user, sorry to hear this. Your x-ray is suggestive of cervical spondylosis which is simple terms can be explained as early arthritis of the neck (cervical spine). Unfortunately there is no way to reverse the damage already done to your spine. The thing you can do is slow down the progression of this condition by following the few simple things. 1. Quit smoking 2. Weight loss 3. Avoid lifting heavy weights 4. Avoid sudden forceful neck movements 5. Neck strengthening exercises 6. Maintain good posture 7. Ergonomic adjustment to your work place like adjusting the height of your chair, table etc. Best wishes.

Shoulder pain & armIt is called as peri arthritis shoulder and for that you can do hot water fermentation and ice therapy at home. If you have shoulder pain then the stiffness will develop more that might make the arm to have less improvement which might make you to feel more pain the arm. And also cervical pillow can be used which might make you to have better posture of the shoulder neck and arm.

Suddenly again pain back last 15 days.
Knee pain: if your knee is paining since 6 months. I advise you to use knee cap which would help to prevent the knee from damaging further and also to maintain the quadriceps muscle tone. As arthritis is very common if anyone would've neglected any injury in the previous years. You can take Ultrasonic therapy in one of the nearby physiotherapy clinics which would help to heal the damaged cartilages along with shortwave diathermy which would help to improve the blood circulation. Ice therapy would definitely help to reduce the inflammation.

Neck Pain: Why It Happens And How It Is Treated?

MBBS, MS - Orthopaedics, Spine Fellowship
Orthopedist, Mumbai
Neck Pain: Why It Happens And How It Is Treated?

The neck consists of vertebrae that extend from our upper torso to the skull. It further has cervical disks that absorb any kind of shock between the bones and prevent them from breaking. The muscles, bones and ligaments present in our neck support the head. Any kind of abnormalities and injuries can be a cause for neck pain. These include:

  1. Muscle tension - This is usually caused by:
    • • A poor posture
    • • Working at a desk or in front of the computer for too long
    • • Sleeping in a bad position
    • • Jerking your head during a physical activity or sport.
  2. Injury: The neck is highly vulnerable to injuries especially during car accidents, sports and falls. An injury in the neck occurs when the ligaments present inside it start to move out of their usual positions or range. It happens when you have had a whiplash of your head.
  3. Heart attack: In some cases, neck pain can also be a symptom of a heart attack at times. However, it is usually combined with other symptoms when it shows up. These is:
  4. Meningitis: When the tissue surrounding the back or the neck starts to get swollen, it is known as meningitis. It can be fatal at times and should be considered a medical emergency.

In case the following symptoms show-up, you need to see a doctor:

  1. Nausea
  2. Lump in the neck
  3. Severe neck pain without cause
  4. Swollen glands
  5. Weakness
  6. Numbness
  7. Tingling sensations all over the body
  8. Trouble breathing or swallowing
  9. Heavy headaches

How is neck pain treated?
The first step towards the treatment of neck pain is determining the cause of the pain. this can be determined by:

  1. Blood tests
  2. X-rays
  3. CT scans
  4. Electromyography that allows your doctor to check how healthy your muscles are
  5. Lumbar puncture or a spinal tap, which might be a little painful

Here are some of the conventional home treatment methods can be tried at home:

  • Applying cold and hot pads for pain relief
  • Exercising, mainly stretching
  • A neck collar of your size
  • Traction
  • Antibiotics if recommended
  • Injections
  • Pain medications
  • Better sleeping postures
  • Maintaining a good posture

Always take good care of your health as well as fitness. Make sure that you sit and stand in proper postures and do not spend your entire day at a desk or in front of a computer. Even if you have to, have brief exercising or stretching sessions in between breaks. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
