Hi My sister suffers from a knee pain and swelling due to vitamin d deficiency and excess uric acid. So is it advisable for her to do yoga in which she needs to fold her legs for the most of time doing different poses of yoga. Will it have any opposite impact on her knees if she does yoga. Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

Is ankle pain related to some disease? I have ankle pain from last two days please suggest me what to do?
Ankle pain could be caused by an injury, like a sprain, or by a medical condition, such as arthritis. Ankle sprain is one of the most common causes of ankle pain. For immediate at-home treatment of ankle pain, the RICE method is recommended. This includes: Rest — Avoid putting weight on your ankle. Try to move as little as possible for the first few days. Use crutches or a cane if you have to walk or move. Ice — Begin by putting a bag of ice on your ankle for at least 20 minutes at a time. Do this three to five times a day for three days after the injury. This helps reduce swelling and numb pain. Give yourself about 90 minutes between icing sessions. Compression — Wrap your injured ankle with an elastic bandage, like an ACE bandage. Do not wrap it so tightly that your ankle becomes numb or that your toes turn blue. Elevation — Whenever possible, keep your ankle raised above heart level on a stack of pillows or other type of support structure. Once your pain subsides, gently exercise your ankle by rotating it in circles. Rotate both directions, and stop if it begins to hurt. You can also use your hands to gently flex the ankle up and down. These exercises will return your range of motion and help exercise your ankle, lowering your risk of reinjury. If you still have pain. Please consult a nearby Physiotherapist.

Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Hi, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You have mentioned a duration of 2 weeks of back pain. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you, you can also add a muscle relaxant like tab myoril 8mg twice a day for 5-7 days if there is associated muscle spasm - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Take physiotherapy treatment and learn spinal exercise. Use lumber spine belt. Don't sit on floor. Don't lift heavy things. Take calcium ; methylcobalamine and vitamin d 3 for 2 month. Apply volini cream before sleeping.

1. Avoid protein rich diets like mutton, egg, fish, sea food (sardines)/prawn 2.Avoid pulses, lentill, mushrooms, green leafy vegetablles like broccoli, cauli flower, cabbage, spinach, beans, peas 3. Take fruits like apple, banana, orange, black cherry, lime etc 4. Drink plenty of water (8-10 glass) daily 5. Avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks, excess sweets cakes/cookies 6.Reduce weight if overweight 7. Take medicine after consulting physician.

Is it confirmed on MRI. If not you need to get an MRI done first. Then visit an orthopedic surgeon who would assess the severity of the condition. Minor bulges may be taken care off with medicine and lifestyle changes. However severe ones may require surgery depending on your health status.

Also there can be vitamin d deficiency which can lead to pains, also in some systemic diseases it happens. So for treatment, accurate diagnosis is important. I had back pain. It only occurs when I am sitting without a support in back. It also happens when I lean to a desk for long time when sitting. The pain occurs not in the central spine but on the muscles side to it. I do not feel pain in any other situation other than mentioned here. The pain will not last only in these positions.

I advise you to maintain a proper posture while sitting. If possible keep a cushion behind your back while sitting. If the pain persists take tablet yograj guggul one tablet three times daily.

It appears that your job requirements is of long standing. This may be the cause of your back problem. Do hot fermentation and apply pirox gel locally. Hard plinth bed is must.

Tips to avoid body pain
*poor posture is the major reason behind musculo skeletal problem now-a-days.
*sitting, standing posture.
Sedentary job posture is much more important. So be careful regarding these all daily living activities.
*take proper rest.
*do some stretching exercises.
*take plenty of water.
*walking has greater role to keep well and mobile to all muscles and joints.
*take green tea daily.
* be careful about good diet and bad or harmful diet.
One important thing do not ignore if any minor musculo skeletal problem is there.

Apply hot fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural correction- sit tall, walk tall. Extension exercises x 15 times x twice daily. Bhujang asana. Core strengthening exercises. Back stretching. Do the cat/cow stretch.
