Knee advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold).

1. Hypothyroidism is taken care by your Thyroid tablets, hence that part is neutral for you. 2. Your weight is caused by excess calories and lack of exercise. 3. You can monitor your weight loss by 'Myfitensspal' app. 4. Taking protiens of no use. You will just waste money and time over it. 5. Take about 1300 calories diet with natural foods only. 6. I have got 3 questions please if you can answer me individually. Ist question: Does sugar in fruit like bananas or any other fruit cause weight gain? 2nd question: is banana or any other sweet fruit harmful for diabetic patients? 3rd question: I have a tendency to eat fruits like bananas (6 banana/day)-am I at risk of developing conditions like hyperglycemia (high sugar) or hyperkalemia?

May I answer your questions one by one. 1) ALL food stuffs, including fruits contain sugar. If by "weight gain" you mean overweight, YES... theoretically, the sugar in fruits can cause weight gain. 2) All fruits are NOT equal in terms of the quality & quantity of sugars they contain. Therefore, some fruits are OK, while some are not. 3) Bananas, taken as such (whole), in reasonable quantities will NOT cause diabetes (if that is what you mean) or hyperkalemia. But 6 bananas/ day is NOT reasonable for a person who takes other food stuffs too!!!

Are you on treatment for hypothyroidism? if on treatment, and tsh levels are in control it is good. Pain on eating cold items is not necessarily a special problem of hypothyroidism. If it is really so bothersome I would suggest you to avoid taking too cold eatables. There is no special remedy to control it.

How can I treat uncontrolled diabetes mellitus type 1 preoperatively and also post operatively?

How can I treat uncontrolled diabetes mellitus type 1 preoperatively and also post operatively?
Hello Sir, You can control your blood glucose levels by following a good healthy diet, avoiding high calorie and high sugar food stuffs, limiting the intake of carbohydrates (rice, roti etc.), increasing the consumption of vegetables and taking adequate amounts of protein - dal, non-veg food etc. Kindly get your fasting and post prandial blood glucose tests regularly. Further get your HbA1C checked every 3 months. Your FPG should be less than 110, PPG should be less than 160 and HbA1C should be less than 6.5 % for good control. Kindly see a good diabetologist who can titrate your insulin doses. If you need any more specific information, please consult me privately through Lybrate. I hope this answer has helped you Thank you.

Yes, there are oral steroids that can be given to outpatients. Also, she can be put on Insulin at home. Hospital admission for starting steroids & Insulin alone, is unnecessary.

Hi I am 32 years women and I hv suffering with diabetes since 4 years. I want to reduce my wait. Please suggest me.
In case of diabetes you have to eat nutrient dense food and exercise well. You need a diet which comprises of whole grains like jowar, bajra, wheat, brown rice, pulses like moong, musoor, bengal gram, lots of vegetables, fruits, eggs, fish, chicken, paneer, healthy oil, nuts and seeds. You need to eat them in right proportion. Avoid eating sugar and sweets, refined foods like maida, noodles pasta, white rice and products, bread. Drink a lot of water. Exercise atleast 5 times a week. Do not overeat. Eat 3 proper meals and 2 snacks in between. Stop when your stomach is 80% full. Eat slowly.

Hi lybrate-user ime-9 is a costly supplement with unproven benefits. If you can afford to put in money on such supplement without getting an assured benefit please go ahead but consult a doctor whether these tablets have a side effect on liver. I am a TB expert but don't know anything about ayurveda, I will not recommend it to anyone under any circumstances. Regards.

No instant medication as you think is there and controlling diabetes is long term procedure. Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance. If you keep in touch personally. I am 56 yrs old retired govt servant. I am suffering from diabetes since last 4 yrs. At present my fasting blood sugar level is 125. And pp 265. And a1c is 6.7%. From the last 4 months i feel very tired , pain under the deltoid region while sleeping . Legs feels numb. My TFT results are normal. Pls give me an advice.

MBBS
General Physician, Guwahati
As your PP is high. If you are not taking any medications then its the time to start medications. Better to start with oral hypoglycemic agents. (OHA). These body pain and tiredness may be due to diabetes. Can start with METFORMIN 500mg once a day in between breakfast and see the result after 2 weeks. If it is improved then continue. There are side effects also. If you feel gastric trouble then consult again.
