Is a Fruit Diet Ideal for Weight Loss?

Is a Fruit Diet Ideal for Weight Loss?

Weight loss is an issue that usually confuses a lot of people. What kind of diet should one follow? How much exercise and what kind should one indulge in? What are the other measures one can take? These are some of the questions that people usually have. While your dietary intake has a major bearing on your weight loss journey, the kind of diet you follow also makes a difference. There are many kinds of diets out there for weight loss, and one of them is a fruit diet. Is this ideal and effective? Let us find out.

  • Nutrition in Fruit: While fruits have high nutrition value, they are also high in fibre and natural glucose. Fruits also have high water content which will leave you feeling full for a long time. Yet, once the effect wears off, you will end up feeling hungry and will find yourself consuming more food that is energy dense and calorific as well. Also, much of this food group has plenty of sugar which may need a balance of vegetables and grains to burn off the excess glucose.
  • Sustained Weight Loss: The initial effects of a fruit diet may show you fabulous results. The fibre pushes the food through the digestive pipe faster, and you find yourself consuming more and more fruits for a slimmer waist. Yet, when it is not coupled with exercise, you may end up gaining all those kilos or pounds back once you stop the fruit diet because your body will not know what to do unless it gets that dose of fibre.
  • Balanced Diet: While fruits offer you all kinds of nutrients, there is a need to turn to other food groups as well so that your body keeps its immunity in place and also gets nourished by all other food groups. As per dieticians, any diet that sticks to one food group only is known as a fad diet, which does not show sustainable results.
  • Monotony: A sluggish metabolism is usually the end result of a digestive disorder or a single food diet. The same type of food is known to drive the metabolism to a state of relative complacency and it may end up slowing down to a point where you find it difficult to move those last 5 kgs or last few out pounds off of your waist.

While there are several kinds of diets that may suit several types of people and their varied bodies and metabolic rates, it is also a fact that a balanced diet is something that does wonders for your metabolism rate and keeps it going with the influx of different kinds of food.

What is the BEST and FASTEST way I can loose weight? I'm not that fat, I'd consider my self average. I can't give you the exact weight right now, but I can tell you that it varies in between 69-73. Hi kareem - incorporate more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your diet while eliminating unhealthy foods. - if you are working or studying away from home, try to pack healthy lunch and snacks for yourself to avoid eating unhealthy food daily. - don't eat straight from the packet - use a plate or bowl to control how much you eat. - don't delay or skip meals. - cut down your consumption of aerated drinks and sodas. - drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. Drink water after waking up and before sleeping. Being dehydrated may make you feel like you're hungry, so it is important to stay hydrated. - have homemade fruit and vegetable juices - eat 5-6 small healthy meals every 2-3 hours, every day, instead of having a few big ones. This regulates your blood sugar level and your metabolism. - don't skip breakfast, instead, make it rich with complex carbohydrates and proteins, so it can provide you with energy to get through the day. Try to include the following as your morning breakfast, oats porridge, eggs on multigrain toast or daliya with sprouts. - avoid artificial sweeteners in processed foods. - eat slowly as it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to register if you're full or not. Eating too fast leads to overeating, so chew slowly to digest your food better and control how much you eat. - use a smaller plate to control your portion sizes and avoid overeating. - know your cravings and do not snack when you're emotional. It is said that you crave crunchy and savory food when you're stressed, frustrated or lonely. Figure out what you crave and replace them with healthier alternatives. - do not eat mindlessly; concentrate on your food instead of watching tv or playing with your phone to avoid overeating. Underweight is a term describing a person whose body weight is considered too low to be healthy. The definition usually refers to people with a body mass index (BMI) of under 18.5 a weight 15% to 20% below that normal for their age and height group. Low weight may be due to improper diet, reduced assimilation from intestine, illness, metabolism ,genetics etc . Thus first we have to rule out any such condition, with this have a healthy diet with more proteins (legumes, eggs, fish, lean meat, vegetables and fruits, drink plenty of water and go for regular exercise . A homoeopathic constitutional treatment will definitely help you a lot.

I am 47 year old man, From 15 days I have high bp do to high cholesterol. please advice.
Hi, first and foremost, you will require bringing down your high bp through medication while making an effort to systemically bring down your cholesterol levels. I would advise you to first meet up a medicine specialist or a cardiologist who shall evaluate you clinically and prescribe the needful medication to arrest your high bp and also cholesterol levels. At the same time, you will require to streamline your diet and avoid sweets, oily and fried stuff. I would advise you to consume more of whole grain cereals, bread, fresh & fibrous fruits (especially apples) & vegetables and stay hydrated, drinking at least 8 - 10 glasses of water daily. Especially, coriander water is also known to help bring down cholesterol levels. Additionally, omega-3s, vegetable oils with pufa, garlic, amla, cayenne, green tea, vitamin d, fenugreek (methi), isabgol, flaxseed et al help bring down high cholesterol levels too. It is also important that you streamline your lifestyle, exercise daily for at least 30 to 45 minutes, and try reducing your stress levels at work and also at home. Certain yogasana (especially vajrasana) & pranayams also help control cholesterol & obesity both. Remember that relaxation too is equally important for your heath. Hope this helps address your problems of both high cholesterol & bp. You may connect with me in private to discuss and come up with a well-researched, integrated & holistic natural treatment plan/ prescription that suits you in particular and one that provides you a sustainable relief from your chronic issues. All the very best.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. In fact, fibroadenoma of the breast, as has been diagnosed in your case, is a benign condition. Though fibroadenomas are usually not painful, they could be sensitive to touch. Often women find it tender couple of days before the menstruation begins. For pain, you may apply an alternating heat and cold treatment for couple of minutes that may alleviate the same. Gently massaging the breast (s) with little bit of a mixture of frankincense, sandalwood and lavender oils can help too. You may as well consider applying 'phytolacca decandra' oil topically for easing off breast pain. However, you need to exercise caution and stop further application should your skin be allergic to the same or you get any burning sensation. Simultaneously, do follow a streamlined and balanced diet (preferably Mediterranean) & regular lifestyle with due emphasis on regular exercise, stress reduction aFor any query if you wish you can take appointment. Dr. Saksena.nd relaxation. You can take 'Amla Churna' (Patanjali) & 'Bael Churna (Patanjali- 1/2 tsp each with warm water, preferably before lunch daily for next 1 month. You can also take tomato soup to which fresh herbs like garlic, turmeric, black pepper, ginger, coriander leaves and oregano has been added, once daily. Consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables on a daily basis. Especially, vegetables & fruits rich in carotenoids, vitamin C & vitamin B12 are known to help in this condition. Also, apples, broccoli, and cabbage contain glucaric acid which is closely similar to calcium D-glucarate that helps clearing out toxins and excess hormones out of the body that is likely to increase the risk of hormone dependent growths like fibroadenomas and also cancers of the breast. Try avoiding tea, coffee, carbonated soft drinks, dairy products including chocolates, alcohol, greasy, sugary and other high calorie food stuff including fast foods etc all. Green tea is an exception though. Stay well hydrated and have at least 8 - 10 glasses of clear fluids through out the day. Again, its very important that the fibroadenomatoid changes be monitored regularly for increase in size/ shape/ hardness, if any, and the OB/ GYN consulted apropos and follow his/ her advise without fail. The cause for fibroadenoma may have a genetic link or it may be also due to hormonal imbalance. If, its owing to an estrogen imbalance, your OB/ GYN is the right person to advise further diagnostics and treat this condition suitably. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best.
