Hi as you mention about water retention in the brain that is called as hydrocephalus, the treatment modalities for the same depends on the degree of the hydrocephalus, the ecological factor for which we must know the ct scan findings and ultrasonography findings, but as far as hydrocephalus is concerned, it does require medical or surgical intervention depending on the severity of the disease.

Best Way To Treat Fever In Children

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
Best Way To Treat Fever In Children

Let us imagine a scenario: It is 4 in the morning. You are fast asleep and suddenly you hear the discomforting cries of your child. You sense that something is wrong and you immediately rush to the other room. As soon as you touch him, you realize that the child's body is burning up like a furnace? You immediately rush to get your thermometer and the figures on it do not make for a good reading - 102 degrees F. Panic dulls your response rate. Your first reaction is to call the doctor. It might be the right thing to do in some rare cases, but in most cases experts advise differently.

Stay Calm - The most important thing is for you to stay calm and relax and realize that it is still well within your hand to take care of the child. First things first, fever is not your enemy. Rather, it is body's way of telling you that your immune system is fighting alien elements in your body. Children of the age group 0 to 3 almost always face high temperatures at some point in their nascent lives.

The Need of the Hour - How you should go about it depends on your child's age and thermometer's readings. If your child is a newborn or is less than 3 months old and reading is above 100.4 degrees, then you must call the doctor at once.

Between 3 to 6 months, temperature threshold is 101 degrees F, while 103 degrees F is usually the limit for children older than 6 months. But, if the child is showing alarming symptoms such as body ache, fatigue, and diarrhoea, along with the high temperature of 101 degrees F or 102 degrees F, then you should consider calling the doctor on a priority basis.

Take the Hints - Be Wary of the Symptoms

Keeping an eye out on the symptoms is extremely important. If your child has a running nose and low-grade fever (99-100 degrees F), then he might be suffering from a bout of common cold. Vomiting and diarrhoea usually indicate stomach virus. For children with weak immune system or at higher risk than others, it is advisable to consult a doctor.

A 24 hours rest is generally advised in flu, till the patient is fever free without taking any antibiotics. Ailments like an earache, sore throat or discomfort in peeing should be brought to the notice of doctor as it might indicate soar throat, UTI or ear infection, all of which require antibiotic treatments. Certain signs warrant an immediate medical attention. Discomfort in breathing along with constant crying, difficulty in walking, unusual rashes and purple looking spots demand that he be taken to the E.R. right away.

The most important thing is to complete the treatment course diligently and let the fever run its course as it may actually aid the body in building immunity against the fever causing germs and fight them. One must remember that being calm and relaxed at taxing times go a long way in helping you take right decisions and treating fever in children is all about patience and right decisions.

My baby is 11 days old and having gastric problem and vomiting after drinking powder milk.

My baby is 11 days old and having gastric problem and vomiting after drinking powder milk.
Vomiting immediately after drinking milk is regurgitation, make sure you do burping properly. If the child is having good activity, no need to do anything except proper burping, however if the child looks sick, then proper consultation may be required.

What is the problem and medicine.
I understand your anxiety. Young children are known to have 8 to 10 episodes of upper respiratory infections in this age. Repeated cough can be an indication of asthma in children. Regards.

Hello, Do not continuously use diapers if not needed, If needed to be used continuously give that area enough time to air so the area isn't damp to catch a rash. You can try using sebamed diaper rash cream.

BHMS

Why Homeopathy Is Best Applied in Childhood?

Homeopathy is a natural and mild form of medication. The remedies are natural substances, which have been diluted and potentized. Homeopathic medicines are best applied during childhood and work very effectively with children. A child's self-defense or immunity gets stimulated naturally towards a healthier state without any kind of side effects. Homeopathic remedies are very safe, effective and mild. They are especially effective for children, on the grounds that the remedies work by stimulating vitality of a child's body. Children have a higher vitality naturally and thus, homeopathic medicines are extra effective during childhood. Moreover, homeopathic medicines are soft globules, which dissolve in the mouth. They are easy to take and have a sweet, pleasant taste as well.

Here is a list of diseases and disorders, which are common during the childhood along with their homeopathic remedies.

Teething:

  1. Chamomilla is used in case of painful teething during childhood. It is used when a child has got one hot cheek and one cold cheek.
  2. Coffea Cruda may be used to treat restlessness in teething children.
  3. Calcarea Phosphorica is another homeopathic remedy used for delayed and difficult teething in children.

Colic:

  1. Dioscorea is the common homeopathic medicine for treating colic cramps in the abdomen.
  2. Colocynthis is also used to relieve intense cramps and pain in children. The irritability factor of the pain is treated.
  3. Magnesia Phosphorica treats colics with spasmodic or intermittent characteristics.

Fever:

  1. Aconite is an effective homeopathic remedy for treating sudden fever. The child's skin is likely to be hot, and the temperature of the cheeks may differ.
  2. Ferrum Phosphoricum is used for treating fever that occurs due to inflammatory problems. This kind of fever gives you pale, red cheeks.

Irritability and restlessness:

  1. Passiflora is an ideal homeopathic relaxant for children.
  2. Avena Sativa is used when a child cannot sleep due to restlessness.
  3. Kali Phosphorica treats restlessness in children occurring because of over stimulation.
  4. Magnesia Phosphorica and Natrum Phosphoricum are other homeopathic medicines, which act as relaxants.

Cough and Cold:

  1. Ipecac is the best homeopathic remedy for constant coughing along with nausea.
  2. Aconitum Napellus is used when a child wakes up from sleep with a dry, hoarse cough.
  3. Spongia Tosta cures cold, croup and cough which start from the throat.
  4. Antimonium Tartaricum is the homeopathic medicine used when mucous accumulates in the chest, giving rise to coughing.

Homeopathy is best applied in childhood as a child is at risk of developing a number of diseases. A child's body is delicate and much more sensitive than adults and is prone to getting affected easily. Moreover, homeopathy is natural and is the safest form of medicine for children. If you wish to discuss any specific problem, you can consult a homeopath.

Hi, continue what your doctor prescribed. If symptoms are not relieved the you can review. Pencillins and cephalosporins can be used in entire pregnancy for uti treatment. Better avoid tablets for long duration.

Dear Lybrate User, Stool pattern for babies have a wide spectrum. If a baby doesn't pass stool for 3 days or he passed 10-12 times per day is normal. If the baby is passing stool every time he is having feed is normal. It will gradually settle down. So need not to worry. Yes the baby can have cold from the mother. The best way to prevent is to wear a face mask while feeding and caring the baby. Thanks.

Child is now addicted to breast sucking whether milk is not present. You have to be very careful. First try soup. Of cereals and curd prepared at home. Self feeding is essential part. Thirdly let him sit on chair with plate in front. No request, no pampering the child. It will gradually changed to semi solid food. No one in feel sorry even if doesn't eat food. Breast should be stopped in 5 days time by keeping food every three hourly six times a day.

My Daughter has cough and running nose and her first molar teeth coming out. She is cranking very often and drooling....
It is not good to write drugs without seeing a patient. But you can give syp paracetamol 15 mg/kg per dose 6/4 hourly. It will reduce her bodyache and fever if it is. Will reduce her crankyness.
