After 45 minutes you can remove the pack doctor gives you, and can have liquids preferably cold. Then after an hour or so you can eat 1. Avoid hard things they can cause bleeding 2. Let the anesthesia go of or sometimes you might get a cheek or tongue bite (or use the other side to eat) ice cream or juices are the best to start.

I have hole in my teeth it's big, is it possible to filling or have to go for root canal treatment.
Hi lybrate-user, the hole in your tooth is actually a cavity which may have progressed to an advanced stage. Regardless of whether it pains or not, it is likely that it may require root canal treatment. However, sometimes large cavities can be filled using a soothing base material, depending upon the extent of involvement of tooth structure. To decide between filling and root canal treatment, it will be advisable for you to get an xray of the concerned tooth done. Even though there maybe no symptoms at this stage, the tooth can start aching anytime in the future. Therefore, I advise you to get the diagnosis done and the treatment initiated at the earliest.

Severe might be due to pulpitis if you have enough tooth structure and non mobile you can go for root canal treatment once infected pulp tissue is removed under anesthesia pain subsides.

In the start of this year, I suddenly developed white scars inside my oral cavity which burn extremely in contact with spicy food. It was diagnosed as Oral Lichen Planus. Tests done showed I had a auto-immune problem. The doctor has given me a tablet which he said is a steroid and have to rinse it only and then apply Kenacort Gel. There is improvement but it still burns like hell when I eat food. My question is, is it true this is incurable and I am stuck with this for life? Is this the right kind of treatment or is there any other better form of treating this? Why did I get this? If incurable, can I do something to eat food peacefully?

Dear lybrate-user you r worry is quite genuine ,as if it is diagnose as lichen planus ,it takes long time to go .take treatment and get tests done to confirm diagnosis. Once confirmed. The most common signs are white patches on the lining of your mouth (usually your cheeks, tongue and gums). These don't usually hurt, but sometimes painful as in your case ,you may find it painful to eat hot or spicy foods. As the cause is usually not known it is impossible to stop oral lichen planus happening. Precautions don't smoke don't drink large amounts of alcohol do eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Whether you have oral lichen planus or not, you should clean your teeth last thing at night and at least one other time during the day with a fluoride toothpaste. You should also have your teeth and gums checked regularly by a dentist so that any changes in the lining of your mouth can easily be spotted. Usually oral lichen planus only needs to be treated when there are painful symptoms. Sometimes patients with white patches that are not painful complain of a slight roughness of the lining of the mouth. But this usually does not need any treatment. When oral lichen planus does need treating, it is usually done by putting a corticosteroid cream on the area. Some areas may need other treatments, such as immunosuppressants applied to the area. Very rarely you might need to take a corticosteroid or some other, similar, tablets. Follow any advice your dental surgeon give you. This may include avoiding things that make the condition worse, such as spicy foods and things you may be allergic to. Usually oral lichen planus never goes away. Patients will usually continue to have white patches on the lining of the mouth. Treatment will lessen the pain, although it is not usually possible to tell beforehand when the condition will become painful. Therefore have patience and take regular treatment and you will be fine.

What is the remedy for bad breath?

BDS

Bad breath can be reduced or prevented if you: practice good oral hygiene. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste to remove food debris and plaque. Don't forget to brush the tongue, too. Replace your toothbrush every 2 to 3 months or after an illness. Use floss or an interdental cleaner to remove food particles and plaque between teeth once a day. See your dentist regularly -- at least twice a year. He or she will conduct an oral exam and professional teeth cleaning and will be able to detect and treat periodontal disease, dry mouth, or other problems that may be the cause of bad mouth odor. Drink lots of water. This will keep your mouth moist. Chewing gum (preferably sugarless) stimulates the production of saliva, which helps wash away food particles and bacteria.

Can a root canal be done on the wisdom tooth? As I have both the wisdom tooth having hole and would want to fill it up and if require I am ok with root canal also. Doctors advise to take the wisdom tooth out but I do not want to loose my wisdom tooth. In one of the wisdom tooth, 15 years back a root canal was done but the silver filing came out. The simplest method of removing minor surface stains is polishing, or micro-abrasion if staining is more intrinsic. Provided that your discolouration is not due to inadequate enamel exposing the dentin, tooth whitening (bleaching) is often the most effective treatment for yellow stained teeth. Advance procedures can be done with laser. Use snowdent tooth paste for whitening until then. Apply snowdent paste on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min. Then brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight for better results.

Tooth loss is a challenge for both the patient and the dentist. Patient has to deal with reduced chewing efficiency and altered appearance. The dentist, on the contrary, is faced with restoring the lost tooth to the maximum natural extent possible, functionally and structurally.

The fixed dentures came close with their ability to providing fixed teeth that were stable and aesthetically appealing. However, there was one big disadvantage, the adjacent teeth that were being used as abutment were reduced in size and therefore strength though they could be perfectly normal teeth.

In an effort to avoid this, the dental community started looking at options, the result of which was implant. Not just replacing the crown part of the tooth, even the root portion of the tooth is replaced here.
A biocompatible material, titanium, is put into the tooth to serve as the root. Titanium is strong, light, biocompatible (does not cause autoimmune reactions in the surrounding tissues) and most importantly osseointegrated (fuses to the surrounding bone). Once placed as the root, it gets absorbed into the bone after a period of about 2 to 6 months. Then, a crown or a denture is literally built on this root to simulate the natural appearance as close as possible. This provides not just the complete natural tooth structure but also provides support to the surrounding tissues like the gums and the cheeks.

Implant dentistry is a perfect example of teamwork including surgeons to operate and place the bone, prosthodontists to do the crown or the bridge, a periodontist to manage the gums health, and a lab technician who can do the finest job on the crowns or the bridges.

Types of implants
Three common types include:
Single tooth replacement: in cases where a single tooth is lost, the implant would be one root that is allowed to fuse to the bone and then a crown is placed over it.

Fixed multiple teeth replacements: if more than one tooth is lost, then bridges are fabricated by placing one or more implants and then custom-made crowns are placed over these implants.

Removable implant supported complete denture: if all the lower teeth are missing, implants could be placed at pre-identified locations and then a complete denture fabricated over it. This is commonly done in lower jaws as stability is always a cause for concern.

Contraindications
The success of the implant requires good bone health. The most common contraindications would be patients with chronic diseases like poorly controlled diabetes, cancer in the line of jaws, chronic smoking, or poor periodontal health.

However, if managed well, even these patients can have implants after a detailed assessment by the dental team.
